Summary: You have no idea how much Icarus will change your world!
Review: The 20th James Bond movie. The character of James Bond has literally carried a licence to thrill and kill for 40 years in the making to unquestionably the most powerful, sexiest, and most thrilling 007 film adventure yet. Under Lee Tamahori's (MULHOLLAND FALLS and ALONG CAME A SPIDER) direction, a costly Michael G. Wilson/Barbara Broccoli production, and a clever Neal Purvis/Robert Wade screenplay, DIE ANOTHER DAY combines such classic characters and motifs into a modern twist. Pierce Brosnan is cold as ice in his performance of James Bond. Appropriately so due to the setting of the imminent showdown taking place in the Ice Palace. There's also Halle Berry as Jinx - tough, gorgeous, sexy, and determined. The charisma between Pierce and Halle is wonderful. Despite Halle Berry's obvious homage to Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder emergencing from the sea in bikini and hunting knife in DR. NO, there are indeed references to all of the previous 19 films - see of you can catch them all!

Also included is an outstanding supporting cast with Toby Stephens, Rosamund Pike, Rick Yune, Michael Madsen as CIA heavy Damian Falco, and the returning roles of Colin Salmon as Charles Robinson, Samantha Bond as Miss Moneypenny, Judi Dench as M, and now a delightful John Cleese in the role of Q. This was an obligatory choice due to Cleese portraying the assistant R in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. Therefore R is the new Q. In addition to the tributes to all of the earlier Bonds, stunning locations around the globe, a thrilling David Arnold score, the special effects are incredible and echo the vein of 2002's other blockbusters; LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS, STAR WARS: EPISODE 2 - ATTACK OF THE CLONES and many others.

THE ASSIGNMENT: James Bond's mission in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea goes amiss when his cover is blown, and after a fateful battle with the evil Colonel Moon. Bond is captured by Korean officials lead by the outraged Father General Moon, and undergoes years of torture. To worsen matters he is traded for his traitor Zao, is stripped of his 00-licence, and abandoned by M16. After time Bond recovers and travels to Iceland where he is determined to get revenge on those who betrayed him. His adventure meets him up with sultry spy Jinx, agent Miranda Frost, and shadowy billionaire Gustav Graves who capitalizes a business in diamonds. Except Bond is unaware the highest ranking hitman working for Graves is his enemy Zao, and also discovers the power of Graves' ultimate weapon designed for bringing the world to its' knees! Thus a deadly battle against both his main adversary and Graves' mission of conquest is soon to manifest!

THE VILLAINS: Toby Stephens as Gustav Graves, Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost, Rick Yune as Zao, Will Yun Lee as Colonel Moon, Kenneth Tsang as General Moon, Mikhail Gorevoy as Vlad, and Lawrence Makoare as Mr. Kil.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! BUY IT!

Summary: Die Another Day
Review: Die Another Day: 3.5/5 stars

Die Another Day is a solid, although not great James Bond film. As 007 as aged over the past 40 years, the need to keep up with other Hollywood spectacles and youthful demographics has changed the arc of the story and character. These themes are reflected in this movie. The premise of the movie is this: Bond is betrayed in the pre-credits sequence during a North Korean diamond deal and is captured and tortured for information as a result of an unknown mole. Bond is released in a prisoner exchange and is disgraced and fallen from the MI6 ranks. After a sequence of events, he finds himself in Cuba trying to find out the secret of a Cuban genetics lab, while encountering rival spy Jinx (Halle Berry). From this point, Bond and Jinx work to find out connections between this lab and Gustav Graves, a fearless British tycoon. As the story unfolds, different characters represent the twists and criminal activities as Bond and Jinx race to save the world.

The strength of this movie is Pierce Brosnan. He is able to invest himself in the character throughout the movie. He makes Bond feel more mortal and vulnerable and still remain cool and confident in his abilities. This is not an easy balance to pull off. The weakness of this movie is the last one-third act. It seems as if each set piece is trying to outdo the other. The Bond production team's idea was probably invest into spectacle and action, but it is excessive and mechanical in its execution. The prerequisite girls, gadgets, and villains are functional to the story and could have been made more three-dimensional to better unveil reason and motivation.

James Bond has been the hallmark franchise in movie history. With this latest entry, the franchise is at a crossroads. The Broccoli family needs to seriously assess this issue. If Bond films continue to ride the special effects path, Bond fans will be disappointed and 007 will serve as a prop and not the narrative drive. The next film should call for Bond to depend on his wits and resourcefulness and rid himself of gadgets for a couple of films. The plot should be leaner and invest in the characters of heroes, villains, and women, as From Russia with Love and For Your Eyes Only did. Part of the allure of a Bond film used to be able to see a man in a fantastical world fraught with danger and intrigue. It seems as if the Brosnan era is concentrating on the fantastical world aspect. The excesses should be removed to provide the writers with fresh insight and narrative. Nobody does it better if these ingredients are mixed correctly.

Summary: absolute worst bond film
Review: This film is beyond bad, and I gave it one star only because I couldn't give it anything lower. I love James Bond, but this film nearly brought me to tears. Has anyone considered going back to the original movies for inspiration? You know, the stories that were actually written by Ian Fleming?

This film was the biggest piece of trash ever. The saddest thing was, is that I didn't feel like I was watching a James Bond movie. All of the Bond movies have a certain feel to them, the good ones anyway. But this one was even worse than the ones Timothy Dalton made.

Summary: an improvement
Review: After two straight bad Bond movies (Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough), "Die another Day" was a clear improvement and redeemed the Bond franchise back to respectablity. While it is not a great movie, there are a lot things to like about tihs Bond. The first 1/2 hour is flat out great with Bond getting captured, tortured, released, and becomes a rogue agent. After the unique beginning, the film seems to go a bit into autopilot showcasing Bond's car and his various gadgets, showing Bond whooing women, staring down his enemy at their first inocuous meeting, and naturally saving the day. This being said, the majority of the action is clever and exciting and the special effects are well-done. Brosnan as always does a good job in the Bond role and film is ultimately another solid, if not spectacular, Bond movie.

Summary: The Coolest Movie Of The Year
Review: The thing about bond is, you love them or you hate them. In my case, I love them(everyone of them). Pierce Brosnan is great as aways, Halle Berry is beautiful, her acting dosen't even come close to Sophie Marceau(The World Is Not Enough). Forget xXx, forget any other action that came out this year, because Die Another Day takes the cake.

Summary: I've never been a fan of Bond...until...
Review: 'Die Another Day' was very well done.
I love the cast. And the opening credits are amazing with the theme song - it sounds great!
I have seen a few Bond movies in the past, but by far, this would have to be my favorite. The DVD has lots of cool extras as well - worth checking out this 2 disc set for any Bond fan...

Summary: Moonraker had better efx,
Review: At least Moonraker used models and slomo explosions caused from a shotgun and the U.S. championship skydiving team to film Bond skydiving with Jaws in panoramic widescreen. Graves popping in with parachute at Buckingham looked over the top and silly in a bond film. I did like the invisible car, but the novelty was ruined when the bad guy #2 had a car to match which could detect it. Most unbelievable is the villain changing his face through "gene" technology. What was so wrong about keeping the Korean mad colonel as the main villain? Halle Berry was great in "Executive Decision" as a brave but scared stewardess, but she didn't fit as a Bond girl here, not convincingly tough nor sly and seductive. Rosamund Pike hopefully can come back as the main Bond girl like Maud Adams. How about Sean Bean from Goldeneye/Lord of the Rings becoming the next Bond?

Summary: A horrible movie start to finish!
Review: This movie, if one can call it that, has an inane story that gets worse through no character development and idiotic dialogue. Could Halle Berry have given a worse performance? (Not that her character helps her any for the afore mentioned reasons). Could they please hire new writers so that they're making good films that attempt to match the quality of the early films. Could they also take some inspiration from Ian Fleming (who I think a lot of people who like this film have never heard of). Get a new director that won't make a video game... also, a new music writer would be good, I know John Barry left big shoes to fill, but they could get someone who's able to write a memorable theme for story and characters (if they had any!) Why not use John Barry while he's still alive? The only thing positive about the Pierce Brosnan films has been the guy who does the title designs... But other than that this film is painful, one star is one too many!

Summary: Better Than Some...
Review: As a long-time Bond fan,I like all the Bond films(some more than others). DIE ANOTHER DAY was pretty good but the more I think about it,DAD seems to me just a up-dated version of DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. A few things that got on my nerves was all the sexual innuendoes in the dialogue, the really bad CGI work on the para-sail escape scene and all the product placement through out the movie. The movie was slick,action-packed,sexy and kinda funny in some parts but it could have been better. The DVD set is good and loaded with alot of extras so if you liked the movie be sure to buy the DVD set. Looking forward to Bond21.

Summary: 007 James Bond Die Another Day - Brosnan's best Bond yet!
Review: "Die Another Day" can certainly be said to be the best of the last four Bond films starring Pierce Brosnan. The script is a very good one with clear starting points and carry through; the acting by all involved is a perfect match for the script and the overall feel of the movie harkens one back to the earlier days in the line of 007 James Bond movies where it's all about a big script and big action sequences that leave an audience stunned as James Bond does the impossible time after time and gets a babe or two in the process.

Performance wise, Pierce Brosnan is the perfect actor for James Bond and just as "Die Another Day" is the best of his first four Bond films; with this one he gives his best performance yet as Bond, James Bond. Halle Berry's performance as Jinx, an NSA agent with the same goals as Mr. Bond is perfect. At the time of this films theatrical release there were rumors about a spin off film with the character of Jinx and Halle Berry in the lead role, since that time "I've" heard little about it though. John Cleese stepping in as Q is a good pick as well, replacing the dearly departed, lovable Desmond Llewelyn in that memorable role. One of the best scenes in the film is John Cleese's scene as Q and seeing many of the props from earlier movies. As usual, Judi Dench is perfect as M and ever so gorgeous Rosamund Pike's performance as Miranda Frost is quite memorable.

Lee Tamahori steps in as the director for this great Bond film and does a great job, his previous credits includes directing "Along Came a Spider" and episodes of "The Sopranos." Much of the credit for the success of this Bond film can most likely be attributed to his view on Bond and how he aptly displays this film.

The Premise:

As with all Bond films, "Die Another Day" starts off with a huge action sequence, setting up the rest of what the film is about. James Bond infiltrates his way into North Korea, in certainly what can be described as a most unusual way. He's there to assassinate a North Korean Army Colonel who's selling weapons on the black market. His cover is blown and yet, through some pretty amazing action sequences, he seemingly accomplishes his mission. In doing so though, he's captured by the North Korean Army and in particular, the father of the Colonel he's seemingly assassinated. After spending several months in a North Korean prison being tortured, he's traded back to the British for a North Korean agent.

What follows from there is most certainly the most exciting Pierce Brosnan Bond movie yet! I highly recommend this film to any and all fans of Bond movies or people who are fans good action/drama films! No collection of James Bond DVD films is complete without this one! {ssintrepid}
