Summary: Disastrous Disaster Movie Worthy of Impeachment
Review: "Air Force One" is a throwback to the old airline disater films of "Airport" and their subsequent farces, but when the credits start rolling this film is more reminiscent of "Airplane!" As ridiculous as the aforementioned, this film is the greatest blot on Harrison Ford's career ever, with the exception possibly of "Sabrina." In comparsion to "Airplane!" the only two things missing from this epic farce are the two jive-speaking black guys. President Jim Marshall(Ford) is returning from a successful diplomatic visit to Russia when all of a sudden his plane is inexplicably taken over by Kazak terrorists. They are assisted by a secret service agent,(whose involvement is never explained at all!) and led by the ever so slithering rogue Gary Oldman. Oldman delivers the film's best performance but it is to no avail in this "lots of action-big stars-who needs a script or a believable plot!" cinematic blunder. Oldman pops off aide after aide in desperate attempt to get Ford to release a fellow Kazak held prisoner in Moscow. This President shows his moves by beating up terrorists, skillfully commuticating with Politically Correct Co-Star and Vice-President Glenn Close in Washington, not to mention remorselessly sacrificing his staff members to Oldman's execution squad before finally giving in when the gun is pointed at the first family. In the movie's only good scene, Jurgen Prochnow cameos as the detained General Radik, and is heroically led out of Lubianka prison in Moscow to the strains of "L'Internationalle." Of course, this scene is interrupted and we're back to "Chuck Norris: President" in a poorly choregraphed fight scene that ends with one of Hollywood's all time worst cliches. Don't rent it, don't buy it, and when the day comes that Harrison Ford unfortunately meets his maker, please forget he ever disgraced himself in this quick-buck, mindless holocaust. END

Summary: Typical Harrison Ford Movie
Review: Before I'd seen this movie, I posited that Ford's character would get dragged behind the airplane, since after all, his characters always get dragged behind something. It's his trademark. Imagine my surprise when it happens twice (although the first time isn't up to Ford's usual "getting dragged" scenes).

Beyond that, the plot was unbelievable, the technical details inaccurate, the characters were two dimensional, and the dialog didn't work. Fortunately, it had a bunch of really swell action scenes, as well as Gary Oldman to make it interesting. And, there's always Harrison Ford to look at.

Probably worth a rental, and definitely good if you're not in the mood for thinking or realism. It also seems to be a favorite for demoing home theater systems, which gives it some value. END

Summary: A non-stop action thriller.
Review: Proabably Harrison Ford's best action role, Air Force One is non-stop action with an plot that presents the possiblity of itself. A band of Soviet patriots (led by the same guy who plays the bad guys in Fifth Element and Lost in Space) boards Air Force One as a news crew and takes it over. They begin killing hostages in order to motivate the President (Ford) to release their communist leader from prision. They later threaten his family in order to fullfil their objective. The movie focuses on the confilict between a political figure's personal life and his family. If you haven't, see it now! END

Summary: One of the best action movies ever!
Review: I saw this movie with my new wife the night before we flew to Egypt on the first stage of our honeymoon, and I am grateful to her for letting me watch it! It is superb. Oh, I wish Bill Clinton was more like Mr. Ford's fictional Pres! Definitely a movie to watch before flying, if you're up to it. The action scenes, production, special effects, musical soundtrack by the stalwart and excellent Jerry Goldsmith and the photography are first rate. The story is a bit silly, I mean this couldn't happen in real life, Russian renegades invading AF1 posing as reporters, but what the hell, it's just a movie! END

Summary: Still Gripping on the "Small Screen"
Review: When I saw "Air Force One" in the theater, I remember distinctly the movie gripping hold of me (when the plane was taken over) and not letting go until the very end. While not as intense the second time around, "Air Force One" on DVD doesn't disappoint. There are plenty of points in the movie that left me squirming in my seat. The movie isn't perfect as a movie: the opening scene is way too violent (and glorified at the same time) and towards the end, where the VP rips up the paper authorizing her to take power (I liked it but most people probably don't think on such a symbolic level), the movie fizzles a bit. But as far as being entertaining, "Air Force One" is by far the very best. END

Summary: FUNNY MOVIE!!!!!!!
Review: Absolutely one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Especially when the 747 drives through the ramp and parking area, skidding around corners, making 'vroom vroom' noises. Hilarious. END

Summary: Sky-high entretainment
Review: "Air Force One" is an intelligent and hugely entertaining film, perfectly paced and with some rivetting action sequences. Harrison Ford has the neccessary screen presence to play the US President with conviction, and if I lived in America I'd want to vote for this guy! And while it's a shame Gary Oldman always seems to end up playing the nasty villain, his character here is deeper than most movie bad-guys, and he is an exceptionally good actor - anyone who's seen "Leon" will know what I'm talking about. There are some dodgy bits, like the special effects at the end and the willful abandon of basic scientific laws, as mentioned by other reviewers, but on the whole this gets 5 stars for being a cracking two-hour thrill ride that never lets up. Serious issues are raised, characters who you thought might survive are unexpectedly executed (showing the brutality of terrorism) and there are some impressively long tracking shots which must have been very difficult to pull off. Watch this instead of "Con Air".

Summary: A real struggle to enjoy
Review: On one level, this is a highly entertaining, action-packed, moderately complex, engaging film. The President's plane is highjacked by a group of Russian terrorists who support a renegade, imprisoned, Russian general, and they want him released, or else Air Force One, the President, and many of his Cabinet members go kaboom! Harrison Ford, as the President, steps up to the plate, and with a little help from his friends, we get a Hollywood ending.

Why only two stars then? There are elements of dramatic license in most films, but this movie might have broken my personal record for me having to say to myself, "Well, that can't happen, but it's just a movie." Firing machine guns in an airplane without losing pressure? Losing pressure, but the right people hold on and survive? The list goes on and on. This pushes suspension of disbelief almost as far as "The Wizard of Oz" and it could have been much more realistic with only a few modifications. Don't waste your time and money, unless you seek pure fantasy and are very tolerant of illogic.

Summary: A movie I could watch again and again
Review: President Jim Marshall (Ford) has just taken a powerful stand against genocide. US Special Ops along with Russian units have captured General Raddick, who is responsible for a reign of terror and hundreds of thousands of deaths. In his speech, Marshall admits the USA had waited too long and that they won't do this again---because it is the 'right thing to do.'

The Prez isn't exactly returning to the USA in triumph, though. His National Security Advisor doesn't agree with him and the 'doves' among the Administration are thinking this is an open call of war.

Ivan Korshunov (Gary Oldman) and a team of Russian bad guys manage to sneak onboard Air Force One and take over the plane. They believe the Prez took the escape pod and left his staff, wife, and daughter to die. What they don't know is that Marshall (a Medal of Honor winnter) is still onboard and is working to take back his plane.

Action is almost nonstop in this 1997 Wolfgang Peterson film and if you can believe Air Force One can withstand the beating it's taken, you can also believe the US could have a hero as a President. Still, this is a film that you can re-run whenever you need a taste of action and adventure. Nobody does heroics like Harrison Ford.

Summary: 2 Hours Of Nail Biting Suspense
Review: Andrew W. Marlowe, the writer of Air Force One, did an excellent job of producing a wildly entertaining story of a United States president (Harrison Ford), who basically becomes a counter-terrorism agent when his plane is high jacked in the wild blue yonder.

While the taking of Air Force One has to be far more difficult than portrayed on screen, don't worry about it. Sit back and enjoyed the ride and what a ride it is!

Gary Oldman, master of a thousand accents, convincingly plays a ruthlessly brutal Russian Terrorist who wants one of his comrades released from prison. Only the president can call in favors to get this done.

The conflict: The United States doesn't negotiate with terrorists under any circumstances. Well, maybe the US will negotiate if the president and his family have been kidnapped and used as the only viable bargaining chips.

I don't know what kind of shielding the real Air Force One has, but, I for one was glad that there was serious gun play on the 747 without losing cabin pressure and crashing it. Without this feature, the film would have been much less exciting.

Let's give writer credit for having the gumption to go with his vision, rather than comprising a good storyline. Hopefully he'll produce more work that captures our attention for another two hours.
