Summary: A Worthy Movie Just Dynamic
Review: I loved this movie. It is not just about war but about humanity and what people go through for freedom and what they give up for their country. This is very patriotic but also gives us a history lesson of the hardships during a time when blacks who were merely slaves back then.

Denzel was superub and should have won best actor for his awesome and fierce performance. He is a slave who has been through hell and is very angry about how he has been treated and often takes it out on his fellows.

Morgan Freemen also did an excellent job- who was the father of the group.

Matthew Broderick far from his other movies. He takes a serious role and does a great job convincing us as he is a General. Very sensitive to the needs of people. It was very heartfelt.

Please please please but this movie. You will find yourself crying, laughing, smiling, and angry over what I would call the greatest movie that I have seen in such a long time.

The DVD has deleted scenes. Also the second DVD is another version of the movie on Widescreen. So you can choose how you want to watch. Nothing very special about that. However, I think it is a worthy movie.

Summary: The Best Civil War Movie
Review: Glory is a wonderful movie and should be watched by many people who enjoy Civil War history. There is a lot of drama and action in this great movie , and the actors did a very fine job on acting like real civil war soldiers. The battle sceneries were fantastic and the graphics were very well done. I think many people who watched or will watch the movie Glory will feel like they know a lot about the history of the Civil War. It is a battle of the north , the Union , against the south , the Confederetcy. The south wanted to put the black people into slavery , which was very wrong , but the north did not. God bless the North Union army! I cannot tell you all about this great movie so you will just have to buy it for DVD or VHS. BUY THE MOVIE GLORY NOW! IT IS A WONDERFUL AND TOUCHING MOVIE!

Summary: What a GLORYious movie!!!!!!!
Review: Matthew Broderick (Godzilla, Ferris Bueller's Day Off), Denzel Washington (Philadelphia, Training Day)-(who won an Oscar for BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR for this film) and Morgan Freeman (Shawshank Redemption, Seven) truly are MAGNFICANT in this one of very few movies of the American Civil War. Once you see this movie you will imediatly want to go to the menu and press play again. This is my third most favorite movie of all time.
PROS:
-It's great to see three fantastic actors in a movie about a true not very known story.
-It's a movie about a war that you don't find in movies anymore.
-IT'S A WAR MOVIE, FOR DANG-DIDLEY'S SAKE!
-If your a war movie freak (like me) or just want to see an excellant movie, definatly check this one out!
-Very well-acted performances that bring you inside the film and fire a cannon ball right through your heart at the end.

CONS:
THERE ARE NONE!

Summary: The Glory of the 54th MA Regiment
Review: This film is not for the faint at heart. Patriotism, dedication, and the harshness of war are all shown in this magnificent film. If you dont believe me, fine! dont buy it. Any person who now calls themself an American should be thankful for what these men did. They risked thier freedom and they risked thier lives for something that we take for granted. This film shows how the ignorance and disrespect of some people towards others can never fully bring someone down.

My 8th grade US History teacher brought this movie in as a beggining to our American Civil War unit. I thought "Hey its a movie that means no work in class that day" I never realized how much this movie would change my outlook on America. We never really take the time to thank our soilders who have died for us.

Go ahead...Say "its just a 14 year old girl writing a review for something she knows nothing about" Well I say "Hey! Its just some adults who will never appreciate what some people have done for them and thier country". The only problem with the civil war is that there ever was one.

Summary: One of the best films you will ever see
Review: Even if war films are not your thing, you will be enthralled by this fast paced work. The amazing cast all put in great performances and the sound track is to die for (buy that as well). The great battle scenes, the relationships between the characters, the pace, the acting, the score everything about this film is almost perfect. Give 'em hell 54th!!

Summary: Great cinema, poor history
Review: Glory is one of the most touching and brilliantly acted war films ever made. The realism and attention to battlefield detail are exceptional. It's also substantially propaganda. The Civil War's roots lie not in abolitionist sentiment but in unfair taxation, corruption and power. It was mainly a struggle between those who supported the very limited Federal government sought by the Founders (the Democrats) and those who desired a stronger central government as a tool for empire building and massive political patronage (the Republicans).

Due mainly to economic competition, racism in The North was even more virulent than in The South (see "Gangs of New York" to understand why), and the vocal minority of abolitionists were merely tools of Lincoln. Almost everywhere else in the 19th century slavery was ended by peaceful compensated emancipation, but Lincoln rejected this route (he dismissed or disciplined several of his Generals who attempted to emancipate slaves in newly captured territory), his aim was to deport freed slaves to Liberia.

I suspect that Lincoln was not playing with a full deck. In effect he sought to destroy the Constitution in order to save the Union. Sort of like brutally beating your spouse in order to save your marriage. He greatly miscalculated the resolve of The South just as The South misjudged just how far Lincoln was willing to go to in order to destroy states rights and the widely held assumption of peacefully secession.

If not for the foolish chivalry of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, in not following up their rout of the Union Army at the war's first big battle of Bull Run (called First Manassas in The South) just outside Washington, the war might have ended right then, 500,000 lives saved (including Lincoln's) and the possibility of peaceful emancipation made likely. Most importantly, we would still be a republic in fact and not simply in name.

For a compete treatment of an alternative view to The Civil War, see The Real Lincoln, by Thomas DiLorenzo.

Summary: An American Classic
Review: The message of this movie transcends both time and age. When this movie was first release, I took my young son to see it. He thoroughly enjoyed it, and it presented him with many questions about our country and race relations. I now have it on both Video and DVD. My son is now a young adult and this continues to be one of his favorite movies, and mine too! It is a classic.

Summary: A Great Film!
Review: This movie is not ONE of the best Civil War movies. It is THE best. The story is well known, no need to repeat that here. The cast is terrific. Broderick was much more effective in his role than I ever imagined he could be. No effort was spared in the attention to details and authenticity. The score is truly beautiful and having the Boys Choir of Harlem perform the vocals was a wonderful touch. This movie is the real deal. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Summary: Vastly Overated
Review: I think the darth of quality Civil War movies has created a blindness among viewers who would accept almost any film portraying this era no matter how historically inaccurate or politically correct. Most of the viewers here who are ga-ga for this film must be looking at the accuracy of the uniforms and weapons because it is a certainty that they are completely ignoring the fact the story of the 54th Mass. has been completely preverted to serve the liberal agenda of a socialist-intoxicated Hollywood. The 54th Mass. was composed mostly of educated free blacks from the North, not illiterate freed slaves who speak like they have just arrived from the streets of "da hood." The flogging of U.S. soldiers and sailors was outlawed prior to the Civil War and yet we have the obligatory scene of a black soldier being whipped by a white soldier, a scene that sent Hollywood into such spasms of liberal rapture that it gave Denzel Washington the Acadamy Award. And of course the doe-eyed Matthew Broderick portrays the herioc Shaw as if he was some sort of British fop and not the young but steely-eyed soldier he really was. Give me a break. This movie is pure liberal propaganda, not served up to give African-Americans pride in their heritage, but to promote the left's love for racial polarization.
