Summary: Better than I expected
Review: I did not buy this movie for myself...In fact, the only reason I bought it was because someone I was seeing at the time mentioned the movie to which I responded, "Oh I absolutely love that movie." I bought the movie the next day on Amazon.com and watched it two nights later. I was not disappointed. It is not the greatest movie of all time, but it was a good peek into the fast paced world of the successful black woman. Success comes at its costs, as told through this movie: whether abandonment, feelings of worthlessness, or just plain old loneliness, this movie deals with them all. I think this movie is a treat for viewers regardless of their ethnicity or gender.

Summary: This movie was okay, the book was sooooo much better.
Review: I enjoyed the movie but I think Whitney Houston should stick to singing. She just is not a good actress. I walked out of "Bodyguard" because she was so bad in that. But "Waiting to Exhale" was alright and had some touching and enjoyable moments. My favorite moment was anytime Leon was in a scene, eventhough he didn't play a particularly likeable character. It was worth watching just to see him and Gregory Hines.

Summary: Outstanding! Angela Basset is the best!
Review: I got to see this movie on HBO for the first time, and I had to get the VHS, then the DVD, and I still watch it like if it is a brand new film. The most outstanding aspect of this movie is the presence of Angela Basset, who proves again after "What's love got to do with it", that she's one of the best actresses walking on Hollywood. It is amazing the way she suffers, cries, screams, smiles, I mean everything about her in this movie leaves a mark. The message that this movie brings is beautiful, in fact it is stunning 'till the end, and watching how this four women overcome their mistakes and bad times is pretty much inspiring to anyone. This is the kind of movie that does'nt bores you in any part of it.

Summary: Great Film But Some Content is Diconcerning
Review: I have mixed feelings about this film. This is a great film with a very strong performance by Angela Bassett. This is a very funny film also. The humor keeps it flowing. I do feel, however, that the story focuses too much on these women "getting some" and that relationships overrule everything but work. The best part of the story is Angela Bassett's character. I also think that the men in this film deliver good performances. The focus of the film is also the friendship between these women.

Summary: Angela Bassett - Woo Hoo!!
Review: I love this movie!! When Bernadine, played by Angela Bassett, raids her husband's closet after he tells her he's leaving her is the best scene. I can relate to each of the women because I know that in my life I've dealt with the situaitons that they were all dealing with.

This movie would have gotten 5 Stars, but I personally think Whitney Houston's acting was pretty bad in this movie. But I would still recommend it..

Summary: "Angela Bassett Rocked"!!!!!!!!
Review: I loved the part when Bernadine, played by Bassett, burned all of her husband's things including the car after he dumped her for another woman. That was too sweet. I actually loved this movie though because it shows you what real friends are suppose to be like, and how rare a friendship between a group of women is.

Summary: I saw the movie before I read the book, and I loved both!
Review: I saw the movie when it first came out, and I've just started to read the book, and I can't put it down! I can relate to some of the problems the characters were going through.

Summary: Whitney cannot act.
Review: I so agree with the viewer who said that Whitney killed this film. It seems as if people are afraid to bad mouth her but her fakeness deserves to be joked about. I could have easily liked this because of the other performances but in an ensemble one bad one effects the balance and it becomes cartoonish. Bassett should be in way better films than the current space film she's in.

Summary: Chick flick? Yes. But men will laugh too!
Review: I think this movie would have gotten a more informed review from movie critics who could actually relate to the African-American female experience. If you have lived the Black female experience, then you will realize why women flocked to this movie in droves, dragging their husbands and boyfriends along with them. Finally, someone was telling a story about the joy and support of friendship, the pain and anger of loss of love. At the same time, the cinematographer made Black people look beautiful on-screen.

Best scenes, Bernadine (Angela Bassett) destroying her ungrateful husband's material possessions, then meeting the surprise man of her dreams. People refer to this as a man-bashing story, but I'd like to point out there were actually two men who revealed themselves as strong, loyal, and moral characters in the movie.

Written by Terry McMillan, directed by Forest Whitaker, and acted by a strong ensemble cast - notably Angela Bassett (who can do no wrong in film), Loretta Devine, and Gregory Hines. Waiting to Exhale was the precursor to Soul Food, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Eve's Bayou, Love Jones and more films featuring a Black, ensemble cast. Hollywood, are you listening? There is a market for these movies!
