Summary: Warner Screwed Up Something Good Again
Review: Having the Roots miniseries on DVD is great, but as soon as I opened the lousy cardboard case that Warner used, I noticed my discs were already beginning to scratch. The case folds and nothing is protecting the discs from the cardboard. I have never seen a big movie company be so cheap that they can't even use decent packaging. Most DVD buyers are buying them to last a long time, but apparently Warner doesn't see it that way. I give this a low rating because of the poor packaging. I feel sorry for anyone who orders it and may have a damaged case. Where would you be able to find such cheap piece of cardboard to replace the case?

Review: ...

The digital mastering used to re-create (let's be honest after 25 years) has been a pretty good job and even though the sound is in mono this is a small price to pay. One issue I do have though is that the subtitles appear to come and go even when I try to turn them off permanently.

Any one out there who can help ??
Overall... A marvelous DVD collection and a MUST for all collectors.

Summary: Lesson well Done
Review: When Roots aired 25 years ago, I was in my first year of graduate school. But those few nights of Roots did something that elementary, junior high, high school and college (and I graduated from a historically all Black university)never did. It gave me an identity! It told me who I am, where I came from and the trials and tribulations I had to go through to get where I am. It also inspired me to trace my family roots. I was able to trace one side of my family back to South Carolina, 1823! To those of you under the age of 25 and to those with children under the age of 25, Black, White, Hispanic, etc, glue them to their seats for this is TRULY AN AMERICAN STORY!

Summary: An Unforgettable Experience
Review: My memory of this benchmark in television history is that for a week back in 1977-78, every evening, everything stopped; dinners were served and gobbled down quickly; people left parties and social gatherings and made their way to a television to catch this miniseries. For a seven year old, it was an indelible experience. To this day, I refer to Levar Burton, John Amos, and Ben Vereen, each as "the guy from Roots". This show was the earliest point in my life that I can remember realizing that skin color was significant. I remember feeling anguish, anger, sorrow, but also hope. The series itself is a masterpiece, sporting a cast that represented some of the finest talent that Hollywood had to offer. Through their performances, they brought history to life and put it in our living rooms, giving us a sober explanation of why things are as they are, while at the same time demonstrating how far we've come. I now have a child of my own, and when she is old enough to handle the powerful themes in this series, we will share the experience of "Roots"

Summary: Best DVD collection somone could buy
Review: First time i saw this series was at age 8.

It's still better then ever.

THE DVD has great image quality, i was suprised.

I know some new movies on DVD that have bad video quality... but this one over 25 years old... i was amazed.

It comes in 3 discs double sided and i'm preety sure its double layered cause i can notice those half a second kayer switch.

There are video interviews with many of the cast.

I think i'm preety lucky to get it before the actuall release date.

There is no way you will be disappinted from this dvd.

Summary: For The next generation
Review: Like millions of people who saw Roots in 1977, it sent chills up my spine. I can't wait to have it in my DVD collection. But most of all I can't wait to sit down with my grand kids and have them experince this most wonderful movie about a time in American history that we all should have insight on.

Summary: A DVD MUST
Review: The remarkable and obviously hard work of putting this story together, plays a very strong role in the educational outlook of our American History. I personally remember seeing this work of art in a History class back in High School. Saying the least, this masterpiece should definetly be added to the DVD series, being, that adding a movie to the DVD family, is simply saying that writer's message is recognized, respected, and appreciated. It would be a shame to our present nation to allow such a remarkable piece of work as ROOTS to become only "another old movie". Again saying the least, This Work is "A DVD MUST"

Review: I also can't imagine what is taking so long to put Roots on DVD. I am sure lots and lots of people would buy it. It would also be great for gift giving.
