Summary: Dark Tale of Friendship and Desire
Review: "You are welcome to torture me to death for your amusement, only allow me to amuse myself a little in the same style, and refrain from insult as much as you are able."

Wuthering Heights is a classic tale about two families. The Lintons live at Thrushcross Grange while the Earnshaws live at the Heights, on the edge of the moors. Mr. Earnshaw brings home a gypsy boy and this creates jealousy and rivalry between his children. While Catherine becomes refined, Heathcliff turns into a "beast" in a way. This is similar to the beauty and the beast at a few points in the story. There is a pretty funny scene where Catherine and Heathcliff enjoy taunting the Lintons.

If ever there was a story of obsessive love, it has been captured it in torturous scenes that contain a certain madness and desire. This is by far the best version of Wuthering Heights I?ve seen so far. I has all the darkest elements combined with fiery passion. The kissing scenes in this movie are highly charged and completely erotic.

Child-like Catherine (Anna Calder-Marshal) and the young gypsy Heathcliff (Timothy Dalton) start off as young sweethearts who are just happy to be with one another out in the French countryside. Soon Catherine becomes obsessed with Heathcliff and wants him to promise her they will always be friends. She puts a curse on their lives if they ever break the promise. With hands on a stone, their fate is sealed.

Heathcliff soon becomes Catherine's only reason for living, without him she is in a state of vapid listlessness. He can literally control her with the slightest inattention. When she hears of his love for Isabella, she is tortured in body and soul. She goes to the height and depth of obsessive love.

"I fought through a bitter life since I last heard your voice." ~ Heathcliff

Heathcliff swears he will never leave, then he does. It drives Catherine into despair. Then he returns when she has given up all hope and has already married Edgar Linton, who rescues her from herself.

I love the line:

"When I'm dead, I think I'll come haunt you as the sunset." ~Catherine

One of literature's greatest love stories and this is the best adaptation I've seen so far.

Summary: Not like the book
Review: Dalton indeed plays a great Heathcliff; the scenery is perfect. But, alas, this is yet another film adaptation that butchers the book. There is no Lockwood, there is no Linton, there is no Cathy Linton, there is no Haerton. The entire third generation is dropped...AND...in the movie, Hindley kills Heathcliff. In the book it is pretty much the other way around. Oh well. The first hour is kind of close to the book. My advice: stick to the book.

Summary: Definately not Wuthering Heights
Review: I have read Wuthering Heights at least ten times, now, and have seen five different versions of the movie. I am sorry to say this is the least accurate version, and poorly done. The casting was horrible, the story changed drastically, cut in half and dark parts were often turned humorous. Nelly is too young and has a crush on Heathcliff, Catherine is silly, Heathcliff too weak. Yes, the DVD is widescreen, and the music is okay, though a bit too light and not nearly as moving as other versions. I bought this version entirely on the other reviews, and am very disappointed. Has anyone actually read it? I say read the book, and then watch the Ralph Fienne/Juliet Binoche version, which still holds the best and most complete version that is out there. BTW...it would be nice if Catherine changed her blue dress once in a while! This one will be donated to the library!

Summary: Makes me feel like he's cheating on Jane Eyre! ...
Review: I love the book, but I know that my title was ver unusual. But I realy loved Jane Eyre, and I love almost any movie based, on The Bronte sister's novel, but this version was do depressing, and boring. Sorry!

Summary: Gorgeous: Timothy fans don't miss this
Review: I picked this up after admiring Timothy Dalton's work in the BBC version of Jane Eyre. I adore the Olivier version of Heathcliff, but I have to say Dalton is absolutely mesmerizing and INTENSE in this role as well(!!!!). I'm usually not one to confess this sort of thing but I admit he had my knees knocking throughout, YOWSA. The movie is truly and darkly beautiful, with breathtaking landscapes- as haunting as it should be, especially for a "70's movie". Yes Cathy could have been cast differently but I still think she does a fine job, and is believable. If you love Wuthering Heights and Timothy Dalton this is a MUST have version to pick up.

Summary: I saw it as a teenager and then watched it again...........
Review: i remember watching this movie back in college and it moved me so much i could only dream of Timothy Dalton. he was and always will be Hitclif to me. cathy was cute as well, but who cares?.......now in my 30's and as a mother i see this story differently. i think that like romeo and juiet WH is also meant to be seen by the young with pure hearts.....

so, if you know any HS kids let them see this movie and be moved by it because they will never be moved that way again. i often wonder why Timothy Dalton is not as famous as other more mediocre actors (think Tom cruise or Brad Pitt)???? in my heart he is one and only, I love Mr. Dalton, and wish him all the best in his career. hope to see more of him, :)

Summary: CROSSED LOVERS ON THE MOORS
Review: I SAW THIS IN 1970 WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT.. AND WAS TOTALLY STRICKEN... THE MUSIC BY MICHELE LEGRAND IS BREATHTAKING.. AND I HAVE YET TO SEE A FINER HEATHCLIFFE THAN A VERY YOUNG TIMOTHY DALTON.. THE TWO CHARACTERS OF CATHY AND HEATHCLIFFE KEPT ME SPELLBOUND AND I AM SOOOO LOOKING FOR THE SOUNDTRACK BUT HAVE YET HAD NO LUCK.. USED TO HAVE IT. AND PLAYED IT DEATH.. LOL... ANYWAY.. THIS IS A HAUNTINGLY BEATIFUL STORY AND DONE VERY VERY WELL..

Summary: Not totally true to the book, but still good.
Review: I saw this movie when it first came out and I was very young and impressionable. As someone else said in their review, the young should see it because it really will touch them in a unique, once in a lifetime way. I read a review complaining that it's not like the book. I hadn't read the book yet when I first saw it. Since then I've read the book many times and it is one of my favorites. I don't care that this movie takes license and makes it's own story. I think it still tells a great love story. And the music is beautiful and haunting, as it should be. I'm thrilled it's now on DVD because my old VHS copy is getting worn out! :)
