Summary: This is ART in EVERY sense!
Review: I absolutely loved CATS! I first saw it on this video, then I saw the live show and I fell in love! I bought the soundtrack that day that I was on my way home from the theatre! I'm not the biggest fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber (although he has done some good work), but I must say that this is a stroke of genius! No, there isn't a storyline or plot to this at all, but that is what I love about it! You can truly sit back, relax, and let your mind wonder in the beautiful music! CATS is a musical where every part of art comes together! Stunning music, great lyrics, beautiful costumes, an interesting set design, and gorgeous choreography! Every song in this show is 5 stars +! The Overture makes you so excited to see what is coming, the Prologue: Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats is great; hinting about the mysterious 'Jellicle Cats.' The Naming of Cats is brilliant and very interesting, The Rum Tum Tugger is fast and very fun, Mungojerrie and Rumplteazer adds some mystery to the show, as does Macavity, and Memory is truly wonderful; easily one of the best songs sung on Broadway! So if you don't plan to see the show on stage (or have and want to see it again and again!), buy this video NOW! Also, get the soundtrack! E-Mail me at Cepheus9@aol.com if you have any questions! Enjoy!

Summary: I love my kitty Cats!
Review: I first saw Cats at my friends house, and I fell in love with it. I still do love it-- I watch it every single day, at least five times! It is the best musical in the entire world. The cast is absolutely SPECTACULAR!!!! Some of my favorites are Aeva May as Demeter, Rosemarie Ford as Bombalurina, Jo Gibb as Rumpleteazer, Leah Sue Morland as Electra, Jo Bingham as Etcetera, Veerle Castelyn as Jemima, Phyllida Crowley Smith as Victoria, Michael Gruber as Munkustrap, Jason Gardiner as Alonzo, Karl Morgan as Pouncival, Drew Varley as Mungojerrie, and, of course, John Partridge as Rum Tum Tugger!!! The twins rule too-- go Tommi and Kaye!!! Anyway....if anybody nice out there has any information about my beloved Cats, whether I listed them above or not, I would REALLY appreciate it if you sent it to me. By the way, did you guys notice that Elaine Paige wrote a little note on this review board?! That is so awesome! If any of you other cast members are out there reading this, I LOVE YOU!!! I would recommend this video to EVERYONE, but young children may require a little parental discretion, since there are a few, um, PG-13 moments. But otherwise, everything about this video is terrific. Gillian Lynne, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and T. S. Eliot are all geniuses beyond their time. This video is well worth the price, and it is a timeless treasure to be enjoyed over and over!!! I'm a jellicle cat--are you?

Summary: Miaooooow!
Review: Bah! Humbug. Did not enjoy this it all. Far too much dancing. Songs mutiliated by singer's interpretations. The music was interfered with too much as well. Why could they not leave well enough alone? A waste of money buying this DVD - well for me anyway. Deuteronomy's voice had no gravitas - too light a singer for this role. What happened to Growltiger? The only one I enjoyed was, of course, Elaine Paige, and even then sometimes... Maybe I am overly critical, being used to the original cast. Yeah Brian Blessed.

Just my opinion after all.

Summary: Cats
Review: This musical film was great! The costumes, make up, music, choreography, lyrics, special effets, and the scenery was brilliant. The actors and actresses did such a good job. Elaine Paige (Grizabella) sang Memory so incredible and so awsome, I am now a big fan of this song and also a fan of her. I was shocked to see Sir John Mills (Gus the Theatre Cat) in this production. He has been a lot movies I have enjoyed and I was happy to see him in one of my favorite musicals. Ken Page (Old Deuteronomy) had a powerful singing voice. I thought he did a fantastic job. John Partridge (Rum Tum Tugger) was excellent, he was very energetic, and new how to rock n' roll. This is a great Broadway movie and I suggest that anyone who loves musicals, go to a video store or Blockbuster and get this movie!

Summary: I LOVE the kittens!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I think that the video of Cats is the best thing in the entire world!!!!!And it's not just the songs and dancing but it's also the people!!!!Some of the best people are Jo Gibb(Rumpeteazer)Jo Bingham (Etcetera), Phyllida Crowley Smith (Victoria), Veerle Casteleyn (Jemima), Leah Sue Morland (Electra), Aeva May (Demeter), Rosemarie Ford (Bombalurina), Michael Gruber (Munkustrap), Jason Gardiner (Alonzo), Karl Morgan (Pouncival), John Partridge (Rum Tum Tugger),also alot of people don't know this but one of the regular cats a mostly white cat who dances with Victoria in the middle of the dancing section is Bryn Walters, who also plays Macavity, and I like him too. By the way, no offense to anybody, but I don't see why everyone likes Jacob Brent (Mistoffelees)!!! But I really think otherwise that T. S. Eliot, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Gillian Lynne are wonderful people. So I think everyone should buy this video because it's great for all ages.

Summary: Lovin the music!
Review: hey musical-lovers,
Im actually yet to see the musical in all its wonders but am currently using one of the songs for a school project and am loving the music! Not to sure how I'd like the real thing but if the mystical tunes are anything to go by, you've got yourself a good source of entertainment. An amateur production of it was put on at my dance school a while ago and it was very impressive without the expenses so if you consider this a reliable source, I'd recommend you and even myself to get out there and see what 'Cats' is all about. Just venting my views. . . but feel free to protest!

Summary: WOW!
Review: OMG this was incredible, i bought the video version early this year after spending ages trying to find it after seeing it on holiday one year-bits were in German but i got the gist of it. i havent been lucky enough to see it live yet but i will one day. Elaine Paige is incredible as Grizabella, no one else can sing Memory like she does, in fact, before seeing Cats live, that was the only song from it i knew, i think it was sung to me when i was small. I would recommend Cats to anyone who is new to musicals-thats how i got hooked and now have the soundtrack to Evita, even children can understand how one cat, Grizabella, is eventually taken back to the group, it shows an anti bullying message i think. If you buy only one musical in your life, buy Cats, and the version with Elaine Paige and John Mills if you can because apart from the actors who play the Tugger and Mungojerrie and Rumpleteaser, they steal the show and Elaine in particular. The original 1981 West End cast soundtrack is also incredible, you can imagine Elaine and Paul Nicholas (The Rum Tum Tugger)commanding the stage with every scene they are in from the energy in the soundtrack.
Memory brings a tear to my eye as do the final tracks when Grizabella is reborn, I have only one word for Cats, in any form and that is truly FANTASTIC, i only wish i could appear in it.

Summary: Arrrgh! I still dislike this musical!
Review: I don't care for Cats but I keep trying to like it because it's supposed to be "so good."

I saw the original musical on Broadway. Hated it.

Years later, I watch this commemorative edition. Arrgh! I wasted my time again. The music... the music... the music... the cats... drones on and on and on. Doesn't make it any better that I'm watching it in my own living room. Perhaps it makes it even worse.

Summary: Great musical; don't know about this recording
Review: Of course we all brag about how great it is to hear the great music of the Andrew Lloyd Webber play and get a chance to see close-ups of the facial expressions for the characters. What people don't mention is the close-ups of the characters' rear end.

I'd say the director of this nearly ruined the play for me with this filmed version, which I got only because I like the music. Oh don't get me wrong, the cast is good and the music is still fine, but for some reason I would feel happier sitting in a theater watching this play performed rather than watching this video. The director (I forget his name, probably because I don't care for him at all) has a habit of giving random close-ups for almost no discernable reason, and often times these are close-ups of the cast's body parts - legs, buttocks, chest, etc. Watching the making of special for this and hearing him give a pussy joke made me roll my eyes, although it assured me of what kind of director he must be. He also did the filmed version of "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat" which also had such great perversities as close up of characters' groins, legs, breasts, buttocks, and included women in see-through outfits. And it was supposedly being performed in front of an elementary school........some school!

Rent this beforehand if you like the music and haven't gotten a chance to see the play yet. Otherwise, try to see it live if you can.
