Summary: Atomic batteries to power. Turbines to speed. This rocks!!
Review: You never would have believe it possible to finally own the original "Batman" movie with Adam West & Burt Ward on DVD which is a real treat! I first got myself hooked onto Batman after I saw this movie, and the original TV show which should have episodes put on DVD. Personally, Adam West and Burt Ward are both Batman & Robin to me (second to Michael Keaton and Chris O'Donnell), and they will always be. With this movie, you actually have the four dastardly villains: the Catwoman (Lee Meriweather who took over for Julie Newmarr in the role), the Joker (Ceaser Romero), the Penguin (Burgess Merideth who also played Mickey in the "Rocky" movies), and the Riddler (Frank Gorshin) who all plan to take over the world. Holy Battle to the death, Batman! The Gloves come off, and the camp and fun all come together. Great interviews with Adam West and Burt Ward. They both still look great for our favorite superheroes. Great fun and great movie. Holy DVD Batman, this is really exciting!

Summary: Holy time trip, Batman!
Review: Fans of the 1966 "Batman" generally agree that the movie was not as good as the series. But since none of the episodes have ever been released on home video at the time of writing, this is the only available sample of the 60's Batman on any format. Too bad Julie Newmar couldn't play Catwoman in the movie. Lee Merriweather does a fine job, but she's not as sexy. Still, the movie is enjoyable for its silliness. Pay attention to the window on the Batcave wall in one of the scenes (when Batman says he has a date as Bruce Wayne with Miss Kitka)!

The DVD is well done. The menu was perfectly designed to capture the 60's "feel", with comic book panels and some funny remarks courtesy of Adam West and Burt Ward themselves. ("Holy interactive menus, Batman! "Precisely, Robin! It must be some sort of navigation device! How clever!") It makes you feel as if you were watching a DVD actually released in the 60's, if DVDs existed back then. As for the extras, my only complaint is that the commentary by West and Ward is rather superfluous. They make ad-lib remarks while watching the movie - at times they just laugh - when they could have provided plenty of behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Perhaps it would have helped if they had taken some time to prepare a script and select topics for the commentary. I'm sure this has been done in other special releases, not only on DVD but also on some good old laserdiscs. Still, this DVD is a must for fans of the series. Now we want the episodes. A documentary like "Lost in Space Forever" would also be welcome.

Summary: Far Better Than The Last 'Batman' Movie...
Review: Yes, yes, I know, in the eyes of diehard comic fans, ANY words of praise toward the old '60s TV series and its cinematic spinoff would be considered nothing less than blasphemy. And yes, Batman today is the way he should be, the way he began: a cold, almost-merciless vigilante with NO tolerance for criminals.
But still...any adult Batman fan who watched this show as a kid and says they despise it with all the rage in their heart is lying through their teeth.
Adam West and Burt Ward are hams, admittedly, but at least they didn't need rubber costumes, and the Batmobile was more of a real street machine here than in any of the movies (even Tim Burton's Batmobile, monolithic as it was, never quite moved like it actually had a jet engine). Warner's Batman cartoon and its feature-length versions are the definitive screen versions of the character, hands-down; still, this one's a nostalgic treat. We get FOUR Bat vehicles (Batmobile, Batcopter, Batboat and Batcycle) throughout the flick! Plus, Batman's four greatest foes combined in a scene-chewing quest for world domination, and campy as they are, they could have given Dr. Evil a few pointers.
It's campy, it's ridiculous, but then in the real world, any grown man who would go out fighting crime in tights, and with an insane gaggle of gadgetry stashed thereabout, wouldn't exactly be the NYPD's go-to guy.
The only complaint I can really make, alas, is the noticeable absence of Julie Newmar (she was sidelined with an injury, if I recall correctly - I could be wrong). Lee Meriwether does her best, but she never quite seems seductive enough to be worthy of the Catwoman mantle: even in the old TV series, Newmar and Eartha Kitt were able to make Batman a little weak in the knees, which has always been Catwoman's greatest strength as a villain. Only under the Kitka guise does she ever offer up some sizzle, and then to Bruce Wayne as part of a ruse. In this entry, Catwoman just seems a bit too sinister, even for Catwoman.
Apart from that, this is an ideal family flick for those of you who might not want to subject your kids to Tim Burton's nightmarish imaginings, let alone the violence of the Warner series.

Summary: Holy Heck of a Movie, Batman!
Review: This campy, bright take on the dark knight has been loved by almost three generations of American children. 60's series star Adam West reprises his role as Batman, alongside him his ever-faithful sidekick Robin, this version being a classic record of Burt Ward's portrayl of Robin starting each phrase with "Holy...!" This isn't the greatest Batman movie, but it's the difinitive version of the classic television series. The plotline is rather simple: The classic four villans, Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), Penguin (Burgess Merideth), Riddler (Frank Gorshin), and Joker (Ceasar Romero) have dehydrated the leaders of the United Nations (They are literally dust particles), and its up to Batman and Robin to save the world. The classic "Pow, Biff, Zowie" fight sequences are all here, ranging form scenes at the United Nations Headquarters, an attack on the Batcave, and the exciting conclusion on a submarine containing the world's last hope! (Okay, so you're not on the edge of your seat, but it's a great film to share with your kids!) If you're a fan of 60's TV, or Batman in general, buy this movie! It's a great collector's item for any Bat-Fan!

Summary: HOLY DIGITAL RETRO-REVIVAL BATMAN!!
Review: Finally after 35 years the original Batman Movie (1966), with the Dynamic Duo, (Adam West and Burt Ward), is released on DVD. But compared to the other Batfilms, they not only face one or two super-villains, but four of their most heinous arch enemies in Gotham City as "The United Underworld!" Great Scot!! Where's the Justice League of America when Batman needs them? As the Caped Crusaders investigate, millionnaire Bruce Wayne gets kidnapped! Catwoman goes undercover. The Penguin reveals his secret weapon to takeover the world and hold the U.N. Defense Officials hostage! Holy rubber shark attack! Topedoes away, and the bat transmitter batteries are dead! The batmobile earns its 35th Anniversary respect and gets stolen! And somedays you can't get rid of a bomb! Has Batman and Robin finally met match? Or does Joker and Riddler get the last laugh? Yet it seems grim but, more fun to watch with Adam West and Burt Ward's audio commentary watching this movie themselves. However, the best is yet to come. Quick DVD viewers, to the batpoles!

Summary: They may be drunks Robin..but they're human beings as well!
Review: I bought this for my 3 year old son but it turns out i enjoy it almost as much as he does. Almost.
I remember watching this as a kid and I never realized how corny it was. Untill now. Yikes! I haven't laughed so hard at a movie in years. This film is funnier than than our best comedies. How can one not burst out in tears as batman is savagely attacked by a rubber shark? Check out his face as he grimaces in pain as the foam rubber teeth clamp down. And then theres the morality. Its good to know that even though drinkers may be riff-raff according to Robin, Batman still considers them human beings. And worth saving. Even the 'Human flotsam' near the end of the film is worth saving. And check out the deep blue sea in the submarine scenes. Whats that in the backround? Is the very horizon rippling before my eyes? Is it a rift in time! Or is it a screen painted with clouds and seaguls gently billowing from a stage fan! It just goes on and on. Poor sets, cheesy diologue coupled with cheesy delivery of cheesy diologue, props to make ILM green with envy. This movie makes those Godzilla movies look like big blockbuster bonanzas.
But all that corn wouldnt make a cornfield without Adam West and Burt Ward. How could a casting be so perfect? These two bring a sincerity to the roles. They somehow say ther lines with straight faces and are into their roles. This isnt a joke to them. its business. At the time anyway. The commentary track is amusing as the two laugh their way through the film with the rest of us. truly, this is a rare film that can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Harmless fun.

Summary: HOLY OVERDUE SERIES
Review: I think this DVD is batastic. It's got cool extras and a supersharp picture. My only problem is,as with many dvds, the picture is slightly wider but the black bars tend to crop the bottom and top of the picture. I know how letterbox is suppose to work. I don't know how well this dvd is selling but regardless I hope they'll issue the series one season at a time. It would'nt need many bonus features, just the unaired pilot. Back to the movie. The lacking of Julie Newmar and the never tiresome batfight music is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. That cool music would have been great at the submarine fight. You Batfans know what I mean.

Summary: Talk about a classic!!!
Review: You'll have to be in the right mood to watch this movie, but it is so well worth it! I loved Batman and Robin as a kid, and hopefully, they will bring the entire series out on DVD. (please????????) The language is clean, the violence is cheesy, the special effects are ,well, let's say a little low-budget, but you can't beat it for a good movie nonetheless. Adam West and Burt Ward are still my favorite "Dynamic Duo". No one can put together such a cheesy movie and have it turn out so good. My kids must have watched this movie at least 10 times! So go pop some popcorn, pull up a couch cushion, and have a night of some good, clean fun. "Same bat-time, same bat-channel......................"

Summary: This shows that Batman is over-rated....
Review: They have done a ton of both animation and live action films on Batman, but the character must have a streak of bad story ideas that come with every film. This film was to put it mildly, very campy. The casting or West and Ward was terrible. They tell jokes that are not funny and wear long underwear costumes that make them look like they escaped from a mental hostpital. The villians casting of familar actors was not much better, they read the same corny dialoge from a script that clearly needed a real writer to make this work, but the film makers never bothered with that. The effects work is mostly cheap animation shots done and put on film and it looks like they used a cheap film projector to do that. There was no art direction to speak of in this movie, just a lot of fake sets that had fake machines with lights on them. There are a hundred other things wrong with this movie to speak of, but the main points have already been made...This was a bad movie period.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good sober, but better in other states of consciousness
Review: Watch it stoned, it will not disappoint, OR it will disappoint so much that you will be impresseed.
Also I've never seen such lazy script-writing in all my years of yore.
