Summary: Incredible View from Corman
Review: This is a classic film across the board produced and directed by Roger Corman. Corman brilliantly brings a lot of that 50's cold war paranoia that found its way to the screen and brilliantly and colorfully updates it for the 1960s with this film. Ray Milland's presence and performance adds a lot of prestige to this production but it is Corman's vision that really makes this a classic. This is a winner all he way that deserves closer scrutiny and repeated viewing.

Summary: Ahead of its time
Review: This is what storytelling is about - and it proves the possibilities of the SF genre: While mainstream dramas often sacrifice their subject to public taste by softening it or going for laughs, the genre film has the chance to explore subjects in all their consequence behind the facade of phantastic gadgets. "The Man with the X-Ray Eyes" is the perfect proof of J.G. Ballards thesis that science fiction is THE fiction genre of the 20th century. Ray Milland alias X is the true visionary, may he be scientist, artist or philosopher, who sees his talent either misinterpreted or exploited (or both). The film's essential line is X's statement that he is no prophet, that he can only look and tell what he sees. Which makes him the perfect outsider of course (people want RELIEF) , if he is not able to hide or catalyze his ability. And his inner driving force will never stop - possibly resulting in introversion, megalomania, madness, selfdestruction or ...? "The Man with the X-Ray Eyes" has no hope to offer - knowing is suffering, as the Greeks would have put it.

Sure, some of the effects are phoney, and a few scenes (like the overlong title sequence) don't work - but these are 5 minutes out of 80. This is thought-provoking stuff, one of the primemovers of "serious" SF - see it!

(Great DVD transfer, too.)

Summary: X - The funniest movie ever?
Review: What can I say about X - The Man With The X-Ray Eyes? It's the most hilarious movie I've ever seen. I mean, it's not supposed to be, but it's so corny, so low-budget, and so fake, it just makes me bust a gut wondering how it ever even made it on the silver screen. Of course, it was 1963, but this seems more like a movie from the early 40's. I had to give it a four just in good humor. You'll probably never see it unless you're watching American Movie Classics at 1 in the morning...But if you find it, believe me, it's worth owning for your collection. It's a good 'n.

Summary: Brought to you be the director of Giant Crab Monsters.
Review: Yep the same director (Roger Corman) that brought you [Attack of the Giant Crab Monsters (1957) ASIN: 6304963084] now brings you to new depths of depravity. Employing such veteran actors as Ray Milland [The Thing with Two Heads (1972) ASIN: B00005AUK3] and the latest scientific speculation, he has brought you [X - The Man with the X-Ray Eyes (1963)]. The message is so important that it was transferred to DVD.

Moderation in all things. What happens if you get too much of a good thing? Dr. James Xavier finds out what it is like going beyond underwear. And into the mysteries of life. His creation of drops that let you see on a new plane can be dangerous. The more he drops the more he sees. The visual effects are worth the movie alone. Just look what happened when he was monkeying around? Where will this all end?
