Rating: Summary: sophomore slump Review: >I would not be surprised if HELP! was the first movie to feature the format that is nowadays referred to as music videos.Considering that "A Hard Day's Night" came *before* "Help!", *I* would be very surprised. There are a few good bits here, but this doesn't hold a candle to "A Hard Day's Night". "Help!" is why the Beatles stopped making movies. (McCartney's disastrous "Magical Mystery Tour" was a television show. "Yellow Submarine" was a King Features spin-off of their Beatles Saturday-morning cartoon show, which the Beatles themselves resisted having anything to do with fiercely--see George Martin's "All You Need is Ears".) Three stars is charitable.
Rating: Summary: I love it! Review: This is the quintessential Beatles movie. This is the Boys as they were: Silly, witty, and extremely sarcastic. I would not be surprised if HELP! was the first movie to feature the format that is nowadays referred to as music videos. They were great at their music and although they may not have been the best actors on the planet, the humor and delivery of their lines is hard to beat. An enjoyable movie for Beatlemanics, past and present.
Rating: Summary: for Beatle buffs only Review: Especial fans of the Beatles should find this mildly entertaining or at least tolerable. Non-Beatles fans had better avoid it. The Beatle songs are among their pre-psychedelic best. The design of the Beatles's fictional abode is appealing in its wacky way. The Beethoven's ninth symphony scene is original. Everything else is tired, tedious, and heavy-handed. The big-band-arrangement score is particularly tasteless; George Martin is sorely missed. (Director Richard Lester so harrassed George Martin on the set of "A Hard Day's Night", for the score of which George Martin won an academy award, that George Martin refused to have anything to do with "Help!") About the title song: For the first Beatles movie Richard Lester found the title "A Hard Day's Night" in John Lennon's book, "In His Own Write", and asked Lennon to write a song called "A Hard Day's Night". Paul McCartney was jealous. When he heard the working title of the follow-up Beatles film, "Eight Days a Week", he immediately set to work pre-emptively composing the song "Eight Days a Week". Richard Lester eventually decided to call it "Help!" and again approached Lennon. (Sorry, Paul.)
Rating: Summary: Comedy, Music, The Beatles... how can you go wrong? Review: This is a hilarous movie. Fans of A Hard Day's Night and Monty Python will love this movie. This outrageous movie is abstract and funny. But, of course the main point of this movie is to see the Beatles, and see them we do. A friend of mine complains "this plot is as thin as a piece of paper!"..........I have never seen a person miss the point of anything so much in my entire life. As if anybody cares about the plot, that is actually what makes the movie so funny, the plot doesn't matter! To top off this wacky adventure is plenty of great Beatles music. This movie is so enjoyable in every way. This is a great feel-good movie.
Rating: Summary: gute lieder aber die Handlung ist unfähig Review: their songs like ticket to ride, help, another girl are ok but the acting is bad.
Rating: Summary: Its a thingy! A fiendish thingy! Review: All I have to say is wow. What an awesome movie. It was pure ecstasy to see the Beatles acting and making jokes. I'm so happy I finally got this movie. A MUST SEE for any Beatle fan. If you're not a Beatles fan you probably will still enjoy the movie but you wont catch on to certain little things like when the musicians in the restaurant are replaced and the new musicians play the tune to hard days night. Plus, in some parts it can be difficult to understand the dialog. The second time I watched this is picked up a number of different things. Heh, gotta tell you though, the best scenes are definitely the attempts to get the ring back and the fight scene at the house (with Paul's adventure on the floor)! You should really give this movie a chance.
Rating: Summary: I love the Beatles in everything... Review: Well, it may not be a film you would give five stars, but the fact is you can't beat the Beatles. No pun intended really. This crazy plot, about Ringo getting chased by nutty mystics, is really an excuse for humor and pot-smoking (but you won't see that any where except on the cutting room floor). Great songs, hilarious situations, I mean hey it's The Beatles. You can't complain, so just enjoy the fun. I did!
Rating: Summary: Better than Review: I thought this movie was way better than "A Hard Day's Night"; (don't get me wrong, I still love "A Hard Day's Night"). After watching their first movie I thought I'll go to the library to see this one. This movie has more of a plot than the other one. My favorite characters were John & of course George. Did anyone catch George stealing when they went to the jeweler? I also loved the part when George & Ringo were playing cards & George cheated. This movie is really funny, I watched it so many times. I just bought "A Hard Day's Night", but I can't find this movie anywhere, I hope they re-release it soon. You have to see it.
Rating: Summary: Power of this movie is proven by how often it was imitated Review: Yes, I was there in the 6th row when this one opened in Wheaton. The excitement was hugh. Not really a very good movie except that gee its fun to see those moptops before they they became psychodelic druggies. If john and Paul were not the best song writing team of the twentieth century, I don't know was. The power of this movie was proven by how often it was imitated
Rating: Summary: HELP! is on the way Review: Help! is a great beatles film although if u are planning on buying only one beatles film i would reccomend "a hard day's night" because it is a better film.(if it were me i would buy them both) but if u really really want to buy HELP! then here is some info: it has some really great beatles music including: "Help!" "you've got to hide your love away" "you're gonna lose that girl" and "the night before". it doesn't have much of a story line though. A Fan sends Ringo a ring but the ring is a sacred ring and when u put it on someone has to kill you by the end of the day! so Ringo can't get it off so this religious cult comes after him trying to kill him! along with a mad scientist who wants the ring for scientific matters. this movie is great for the persacuted beatles fan but if u aren't i wouldn't recomend buying it
