Summary: A most memorable, moving movie
Review: I was watching this movie in a hotel room in 1986 during a business trip to Jakarta and feel good about it - the music and the story, even though it meant to be a drama with theatrical effect. For the next 2 days, when the video was replayed in the hotel's TV, I made a point of adjusting my appointment schedule such that I could watch the movie again, especially the scene in CUBA, (of course before Castro), and the song "A women in love". I write the movie title down and for the next 10 years was looking for the video whenever I was in the video shop. However, it does not seem that any of the stores in Asia was selling it. Placing an order to buy it from the US was also not successful. During this period I went to the states twice but just couldn't find it. And I was always looking for the movie whenever I am in a video store - lots of dissapointment. Eventually I found it in Laser Disc format in 1996, and I watch several time with the feeling that I am afraid if the disc might broke down one day. Just can not get another copy of it in LD or DVD. It is one of my favorit, together with My Fair Lady, Back To The Future 1,2, and 3. These are just movies that I can watch times and again and will continue to like it. I could not understand a very nice song like "A Women In Love" was never mentioned by anybody anywhere, and I can only get it from Frakie Lane CD with not so good recording quality. Even the movie or Broadway sound track CD do not have it. I am a Sinatra fan with ultra high end HI-FI equipment, how I hope if Sinatra have sing this song .......

Summary: One of the best musicals to ever hit video!
Review: The first time I sat down to see this movie I was expecting to be bored senseless! It took about five minutes for me to find myself focused on each character. I found it to be one of my favorite movies of all time, and know many others who feel the same. Don't be scared by the typical uninteresting musical numbers and silly dance numbers. this film has a great story as well as a great cast to drive it home. If you have yet to watch Guys & Dolls in your life, I fear that you have sheltered yourself from real cinema. Plus Sinatra sings songs that are forever burned into your mind as you eat in any italian restaurant or drink a martini in a nice lounge (luck be a lady tonight). Buy It, Rent It, Just watch it! I assure you it will be a prized member of your video library. If I am wrong you can write me a nasty email note, but you wont need to. END

Summary: A new favorite of mine...
Review: I loved this movie. I've seen it four times, and that's saying something (since I first saw it only a week ago). The underworld as portrayed by "Guys & Dolls" may just be a fantasy, but then, it is the movie world after all.
Frank Sinatra was great in his role, and so was Vivian Blaine. Marlon Brando did a better-than-middling performance, considering the fact that he had never taken such a role before.
I enjoyed the performances of Stubby Kaye, especially "Sit Down, You'll Rock Your Boat."
The "stagey-ness" of "Guys & Dolls" didn't really affect how much I enjoyed this movie. It's a movie to watch when you feel like comedy that isn't too cheesy. It makes you laugh, and you find yourself humming some of the tunes after you've finished with it.

Summary: Brando Singing...and dancing? Need I say More?
Review: I really liked this movie. I am not much of a fan of musicals, (hence the 4 stars) but, because Brando was in it, I thought I'd give it a chance. He actually can sing and I loved the dance sequence. He is gorgeous as usual (surely the other reason why I like this movie so much). There is great chemistry between him and Jean Simmons, who was great also. If nothing else get this movie for the sheer curiousity of seeing Brando sing and dance. After I'm done with this I'm gonna go watch it again.

Summary: Great Old-Fashioned Movie Musical
Review: I've loved this movie since I first saw it in the the early 1980s.

I'm usually not a big fan of musicals, but this one is fantastic. Sinatra is great as Nathan Detroit. To me, he'll always be the ultimate Nathan. I've seen the stage version of Guys and Dolls a couple of times and Nathan is often portrayed as being sort of dorky, sort of like a loser. Yes, I know the stage version came before the movie, but I prefer Sinatra's cooler version of Nathan Detroit over the somewhat dorky stage version.

Marlon Brando also does a fantastic job in this movie. Yes, he really can sing and dance - and he does a great job at both in this.

The rest of the cast (Stubby Kaye, Jean Simmons, Vivian Blaine, etc.) are all perfect in their roles. And how about the music in Guys And Dolls??? VERY great songs!

I could go on and on. If you already love the movie, you know what I'm talking about. This movie couldn't have been made much better than it was. It's truly a classic!

Summary: Brando Singing...and dancing? Need I say More?

Summary: Another Score for Marlon Brando !
Review: A film by Joseph Mankiewicz

The image I have in my head of Marlon Brando is that of Vito Corleone in "The Godfather" and Terry Malloy in "On the Waterfront". The opportunity to see Brando in a musical was just too good to pass up. "Guys and Dolls" is a musical about gamblers and women, but the story is much better than that.

Nathan Detroit (Frank Sinatra) runs a high stakes craps game. Normally he does not have any trouble finding a location for the game, but the police is putting on the heat and nobody is willing to take the chance...nobody but one person who wants $1000 up front to host the game. All of the big mobsters are in town and they are looking for Nathan's craps game. Nathan makes a bet with Sky Masterson (Marlon Brando), a high roller who will bet on absolutely anything. The bet is that Sky cannot convince Sarah Brown (Jean Simmons) to go with him to Havana for the night. This may not seem like that big of a bet, but Sarah Brown works downtown at the mission and is a very straight-laced, Christian woman. Sky Masterson is not the sort of man she would associate with. Sky takes the bet and starts trying to win over Sarah. While Sky is doing this, Nathan is setting up the craps game with the promise of the thousand dollars he believes he'll win from Sky. The only thing raining on Nathan's parade is his fiancee of 14 years, Miss Adelaide (Vivian Blaine). Miss Adelaide is a show girl, and she is getting tired of waiting for Nathan to marry her and she is also completely against the crap game.

The above description sets the stage for a wonderful musical where we get to see Brando singing "Luck Be a Lady". The other song that completely surprised me was "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat", a song I only knew from the much slower Don Henley version. With Sinatra's crooning and Brando singing like I never knew he could, this is one good musical. I would definitely recommend this movie.
