Rating: Summary: Brentwood has the best DVD release of these episodes! Review: I saw that some of the reviews listed for the Brentwood Home Video release of these episodes on DVD are incorrect. This review is specifically for the 16 episode, 2 disc set made by Brentwood Home Video:Sound and picture quality on these discs is very good. There are no major scratches on the film prints as seen on some other DVDs. Every episode is complete and uncut. The original theme music is used on every show and there are no company logos embedded on the image to distract you as on other discs. Basically, you get all 16 public domain episodes, uncut, with decent picture and sound quality in one 2-disc set. They are simply the best DVDs of these episodes currently available...
Rating: Summary: Antenna quality- Can anyone do any better????? PLEASE Review: This particular DVD set is NOT of very good quality. But being a true TAGS fan, I'll take what I can get. I still LOVE watching the hilarious comedy while overlooking the poor picture and sound. It's true what they say "You get what you pay for", this set's quality matches the price. For now, this is about the best you can get, if you are willing to overlook the quality. Just pretend it's 1963. It's about the same quality sound and picture as back then, if you had good antenna reception. But can anyone do any better? PLEASE Some years ago a company put out the Andy Griffith Show on VHS, four episodes per tape. (Great Quality) It's time for them to do the same on DVD. PLEASE? I speak for all TRUE TAGS Fans, when I say, We WILL buy it.
Rating: Summary: Don't be fooled! Review: Ok, I am one of the biggest fans of the Andy Griffith show. And I'm even more of a fan of Don Knotts. BUT, this DVD is worthless for one reason - its video quality is worse than broadcast television (I'm not kidding). I bought this at a local store that won't take returns on opened DVD's, so I lost out. What a waste of money. Don't buy it! If you want a great Don Knotts movie on DVD, buy "The Shakiest Gun in the West". Its absolutely perfect in every way! (as far as Don Knotts movies go)
Rating: Summary: It's the Best Out There.... Review: OK, here's the scoop: this is the best Andy Griffith Show DVD out there, but that's not exactly saying much. However, I do highly recommend you buy this set of 2 dvd's. Also, most of the previous reviews are incorrect, even the ones saying the others are incorrect. Here are the details... THE PRO'S: This 2 dvd set is double sided, so there are 16 total episodes. The theme music on MOST of the shows is original, which really surprised me--and pleased me. The picture quality is good enough to get by. THE CON'S: Some good special features would be nice; this only lists a short history of the show & actors. No subtitles. On about 6 of the shows, the introduction music seems to be the same "tune" as the ending music. I don't know if this was originally what was done on the show, or if the DVD producers did this...but I hardly noticed it in any case. BUT...on two of the shows the theme music was altogether re-made (and poorly done, might I add!) This is contrary some of the other reviews I've seen...they've not watched all the episodes. Also, the picture quality, especially at the beginning & end, is ever so slightly sub-par. Again, this could be because of the master tapes, but the other dvd I own has better picture quality on the same episodes...you have to wonder. So...is this the Andy Griffith show DVD you've always been wanting? ... NO! Is there anything better currently out there on DVD? ... NO! Will you be making a wise decision if you buy this set? ... ABSOLUTLEY YES YES YES!
Rating: Summary: Don't even have to buy it to know Review: You only have to read two reviews to know what this is--a piece of garbage. It is truly a shame that whoever owns these shows doesn't clean up THE ORIGINALS & release them as per-season box sets. Other shows of this era are being released--Why not this one?! Are they so mired in legal matters that it can't be done? I've often wondered. Can you begin to imagine how many they could sell? You just know that at least a million customers would go out & buy all 5 of the B&W seasons. That's $125 (5 box sets) x 1,000,000 = 125-million bucks at least. 'Not enough return I suppose.
Rating: Summary: Best DVD available for this show! Review: I grew up just after the shows original run ended and watched this show frequently in syndication. It is a great show that blends comedy, drama and moral lessons. In recent years I have tried to tape the entire 8 year show off of tv and have found that usually several minutes of the show are cut out to make room for more commercials. This really ticks me off!! When a show like TAGS is already made to fit commercials in why do tv and cable stations feel the need to remove 3 to 5 minutes of the show to fit in additonal commericals? Anyway, I've looked forward to TAGS on DVD and recently my wife purchased this 16 episode 2 DVD package for me. My version does not have the original theme song during the opening and ending credits but rather some poorly done replacement tune. This is a real downer as I, like everyone else, enjoy the original theme song. It helps set the mood for TAGS. However, the shows themselves are fine and the picture quality good. It also has the complete shows. My version of this DVD has some retro commercials in between some of the episodes. It also has some old cartoons such as POPEYE between the episodes. I rather enjoy these old commercials and cartoons. It reminds me of my childhood when I would watch TAGS in the afternoon in syndication followed by the afternoon cartoons. So while I eagerly await a boxed set of season by season episodes of TAGS along with the original theme this DVD will tide me over.
Rating: Summary: The Best Of The Bunch... Review: This is definitely better than the other sets out there-the theme music is original on all but two of the episodes, and source material is clean. Interestingly, all these episodes are from the 1962-63 season, and they comprise the entire latter part of that season-every episode from 1/21/63 to 5/6/63! The only complaint that I could make is that it would have been easy to place the episodes in chronological order. But all the PD material available is here to enjoy.
Rating: Summary: 16 Wonderful Episodes of Andy Griffith Review: These 16 uncut episodes [with orginal theme music] are excellent. The picture quality is very good. The Loaded Goat, rarely seen on tv, is worth the price of the dvd. This is a must for fans of the show.Hats off to Brentwood Home Video fo this great release.
Rating: Summary: Too Bad about the sound Review: The picture quality is good, the audio has a hiss in it. If the sound was better I recommend the set. At this price it is not a bad deal if you can take to listen to the hiss.
Rating: Summary: Andy Griffith SHow - 16 Episodes Review: Most reviews listed are absolutely wrong and must be referring to some other release. The all-important theme song is there for all 16 episodes and while the video quality is not as good as the TV LAND reruns - it is 16 COMPLETE episodes for $$$! The video quality is "fair" - still great to have for the money AND original music.
