Summary: They're stupid, but the movie certainly is not...
Review: Stupidity has been used as a humor device for as long as there's been humor, and it can be done in various ways. Sometimes we laugh in sympathy with the stupid person (e.g. Maxwell Smart), sometimes at them (Frank Burns). Most stupid people in this sort of humor are capable of recognizing, at least in retrospect, that they did something stupid. Not Beavis and Butt-head. Part of their appeal lies in that they are sublimely stupid. We laugh at Frank Burns because he's stupid _and_ a jerk, and so deserves what he gets. B & B usually _don't_ get what they deserve, but we laugh anyway because they have a nearly perfect lack of understanding of... well, most everything, but especially how stupid they appear. They make fools of themselves, but it would often be much less funny if they were ever aware of it. We laugh at, among other things, the wide chasm between how we see them and how they see themselves.

This movie uses their comic potential to great effect, even more so than in the TV show. The catalyst which drives the plot--the loss of their beloved TV set--is an inspired choice, since it is so crucial to their lives. Their adventures are implausible, to say the least, but no less so than is the case in most comedies. The writing keeps things moving along at a nice clip; some jokes seem repetitive, such as the Stack character's body-cavity-search fixation, but that one builds up to the ultimate punch line (what Butt-head says after it happens to him), which I thought was hysterical, and wouldn't have been as funny without the buildup.

My wife and I (late '30s) are fans of the show, and because the movie was delayed for months here in Japan, we bought the screenplay book and read it; even that had us laughing hysterically. Sometimes we laughed in anticipation--such as when Beavis starts popping No-Doz on the plane--because we could see where it was going, a benefit of being a fan. Even if you're not, though, I still think this is tremendously funny.

Some people have a viscerally negative response toward them; I suppose I can understand that, but I think those people take the whole thing too seriously. Some people think that creator Mike Judge is glorifying these guys, which he's not. He's making fun of them. They're not sympathetic, but they're not malicious either. They're just utterly and blissfully clueless, and the movie does a great job of turning that into laughs.

Summary: Best movie since Holy Grail!
Review: I've been a fan of Beavis and Butthead since they were on MTV, though back when they first came out I was a lad of 13 and not allowed to watch them. I only saw the movie a couple years ago due to the fact that I was twenty and allowed to make my own decision about what I watched. Anyway, I was most impressed with the movie, so I bought it. Many people wonder why other people like Beavis and Butthead. Setting aside their disgustingness, "It's so stupid!" they say. Well, I like it because it's stupid!
The synopsis is right out of a B&B episode. Awakening one day from a dream brought on by a movie on TV, our two favorite couch potatoes discover that, oh horror of horrors, their precious TV has been stolen! They embark on a quest to recover the TV. Thwarted first in their attempts to steal a TV from school by the untimely appearance of Mr. Van Dreson, then by Butthead's clumsiness and the untimely appearance of Principal McVicker, the two hightail it to Tom Anderson's place, where they discover that he has a camper. And, more importantly, the camper has a TV in it! Hell yeah! Posing as a couple repair men here to, "Look at the TV," as Butthead puts it, they win their way inside. Not satisfied with just watching TV however, they decide to get something to drink from the fridge...which isn't working. Upon discovering that the beer is warm due to the faulty fridge, Beavis spits it out...all over the TV, effectively breaking it. They then discover a hotel proclaiming free TV, and are then mistaken for hitmen. They are hired by Muddy Grimes to, "do his wife," as he says, and thus begins the misadventure. Upon reaching Vegas, they are thrust into the middle of an ATF investigation of the theft of a new biological weapon. Mistaken for terrorists by Agent Flemming (Robert Stack), the two become wanted men. And yes, Beavis does become Cornholio on several occasions. So do I recommend this movie to a friend? Yeah!

Summary: Same-Ol' Same-Ol' On the Silver Screen
Review: It's been said that just about every TV show eventually "jumps the shark"-that is, there's a point where it peaks, and then starts to go downhill from that point. Most viewers felt that the just-a-dream season on Dallas™ was its JTS moment. For Who's The Boss?™, it was Tony and Angela finally hooking up romantically. But in the case of Beavis + Butt-Head™, I consider their road-trip flick to be the big indicator of that dreaded downhill trend.

In my opinion, most of the scenes showcasing the not-so-dynamic duos' stupidity (which is nearly every scene) lacked originality. Their feature-film antics were such glaring re-hashes of their telly follies, I felt like I was watching an overly-long, big-screen rerun without the music video critiques (which I felt were the TV show's funniest moments)! B&B Do America™ also proved to me that their little "Huh-Huh, you said (insert double-entendre word or phrase here), heh heh heh" spiels and annoying laughter were finally getting a bit too tiresome and repetitive. Truly, it was a sad harbinger of the demise of one of the greatest animated 'bad-example' sit-coms ever made.

But, despite its lack of anything particularly new, 'B&B Do America' does have a smattering of redeeming qualities. The Rob Zombie™-designed 'peyote trip' sequence was appropriately trippy. And speaking of Rob Zombie™, the movie soundtrack-- featurin' some of the rockin'est 90s metal & alternative cuts-- is another rare bright spot in this otherwise hum-drum mo-pic!

Summary: Take a trip with the morons
Review: How can people not love these guys? In BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD DO AMERICA they are insensitive, ignorant, obsessed with their bodily functions, offensive, irritating, self-destructive - and those are their good traits! They are also, much to the apparent surprise of some people, CARTOONS! When did we lose sight of the fact that parents raise children, and cartoons are entertainment? If someone gets into trouble by imitating these guys, maybe Beavis and Butt-Head aren't the real problem. Maybe an inability to distinguish between real and animated life should be addressed before the censors are called to task. That being said, I must admit that as a teen in the early-to-mid 90s I actually used to imitate these guys. My imitations, however, consisted only of repeating occasional bits of dialogue and making "suck" (ie, "this sucks") a staple in my vocabulary. Somehow, I knew there was a fine line between saying dumb things and doing dumb things.

Seeing this movie in the theater was a male-bonding experience of the most primitive: about 500 guys, and two girls, crammed in a little theater waiting breathlessly for the latest offering from the guys who made us look acceptable. We cheered when the lights went down, we cheered when the preview for Howard Stern's PRIVATE PARTS began, and we cheered when our heroes, Beavis and Butt-head, finally appeared on the screen in the send up of a 1970s detective show that opens this movie. We traveled with Beavis and Butt-head from their miserable suburban house of neglect (Where are their parents? We never see them), to the hotel where they unwittingly get caught up in a caper to help a man find the wife (played by Demi Moore) who betrayed him. Along the way, Beavis and Butt-Head cause many insane and, well, dumb upsets. And they even talk to a sweet old lady on a tour bus about her plans to "score" in Las Vegas. Beavis adds that he hopes to score when he gets there as well.

Dumb dumb dumb, a little repetitive sometimes (as are all Beavis and Butt-Head affairs), but always a lot of fun. I recommend this movie if for no other reason than the fact that these guys make me look good, despite the fact that they are only cartoons.

Summary: The BEST movie ever period
Review: I used to never like the show. I didnt think it was really funny. Then I saw and bought this movie and I can't stop watching it. It is quite funny. Basically B&B unintentionally travel through an America populated by a multitude of great straight-men to B&B. Be prepared to see America in a fresh light and to see a novel comedy (something genuinely lacking in current cinema). Save your Scary movie and bad movie money and buy this.

Summary: Very Funny!
Review: Beavis and Butthead Do America is an often hilarious movie about the TV cartoon, Beavis and Butthead. What makes it so funny is how Beavis and Butthead are so stupid. In this movie, they adventure across America for stupid reasons! But the reasons are funny! It's a great movie for anyone who needs a good laugh and an awesome DVD!

Review:

I remember going to see this movie in the theater the first Friday night it came out. The show was standing room only and filled with high school students (like myself). So I HAD to buy it when it came out on video. It is as funny now as it was back then!

Beavis and Butthead fall into adventure when their TV is stolen. Soon they are on the lam and, unknown to them, protecting an international "doomsday device". Stupid hilarity ensues as they travel from Vegas to Washington DC in hopes of scoring.

If you are looking for an award winning "film", go somewhere else! If you are looking for mindless laughs, this is the movie for you!

Summary: Laughed so hard I almost passed out...
Review: And I'm not kidding. This is absolutely one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, in terms of really dumb people who continue to do really dumb (but amazingly hilarious) things. I have NEVER laughed so hard during a movie - and I do laugh a lot - as I did for this one. I actually missed a few parts of the movie - I was laughing so hard I couldn't pay attention anymore, because I was so worried about not starving myself of oxygen.

Robert Stack is absolutely wonderful as the hard-nosed FBI agent, who wants to cavity search everyone he comes across. He plays his role, a very absurd but serious lawman, with perfecet straightness, like Leslie Nielsen in the airplane movies.

This is a movie that is consistently well-written throughout, with no real weak spots, or lapse in the comedy, and no lapse of self-awareness that Beavis and Butthead are truly stupid - intellectualy, culturaly, socially, and interpersonally, they are completely deficient.

The opening, too, is great - just like the musical introduction to starsky and hutch and other truly bad "cinematic" TV shows and movies of the 70s. Thank God we left that decade, eh?

I recommend this movie heartily to anyone who might like Airplane, Monty Python, Hot Shots, or other absurdist humor. Brilliant writing, and hilarious!
