Summary: Uneven Comedy but it`s funny just the same.
Review: An Unliberated Housewife (Roseanne Barr) discovers that her smileball husband (Ed Begley Jr.) cheats on his wife for a famous, glamourous self-absorbed romanic novelist (Two Time Oscar-Winner:Meryl Streep). The Housewife prepares a plan to destory her unfaithful husband`s life to leave him with their two Children (Elizabeth Peters & Bryan Larkin) to created one life for herself for the first time in her life.

Directed by Susan Seidelman (Cookie, Desperately Seeking Susan, Marking Mr. Right) made a entertaining odd-ball dark comedy with a talented cast. Streep is a Hoot in her comedic role (Which later she did another Comedic Hoot Performance in Death Becomes Her). Oscar-Winner:Linda Hunt appears in a Supporting Role as Barr`s friend. Sylvia Miles plays Streep`s crude mother in the film. Although it`s Predictable & The Pace is quite plodding but it`s a surprisingly amusing flick. Based on Fay Weldon`s novel-The Life & Loves of a She Devil. Grade:B+.

Summary: The devil you say
Review: Bob Patchett (Ed Begley Jr.) is just a typical financial adviser. So naturally he wants a wife to match; he turns down his ugly, clumsy, unfeeling, existing wife, Ruth (Rosanne), for a more useful one that is a novelist Mary Fisher (Meryl Streep.) What should be a happy ever after story for the new couple turns into a nightmare. Looks like Ruth intends to get more than even; she finds out his values in order of priority (home, family, career and freedom.) then she commits her life to removing his assets in that order. Her unique approach to the task is what makes the story. However it is the action and reaction of the people that will hold your attention. Will the task be accomplished? The result may surprise you.

Ed Begley Jr. makes a good Bob, falling in to every trap set and suffering the consequences. See him again in ?The Applegates? (1991). Only this time the bugs (Ed Begley Jr. is one) are set on revenge or at least survival which means removing humans.

Summary: Heavenly Performances ... Hellish Script
Review: Despite hilarious performances from Meryl Streep, Roseanne Barr, and Ed Begley, Jr., this film adaptation of Fay Weldon's "The Life and Loves of a She-Devil" is sure to disappoint viewers who were lucky enough to catch the earlier British mini-series based on the same novel. The problem here is with the script, which doesn't really develop Roseanne's character as fully as it might. In the television adaptation, Ruth Patchett was an even more pathetic and disempowered character whose plot of vengeance against her cheating husband and his mistress was carried out with a certain sense of reluctance and a twinge of regret. This extra shading made Ruth more sympathetic and the comedy much, much darker. Here the tone is lighter, sometimes veering off course into slapstick, such as the speeded-up sequence in which Roseanne and Linda Hunt remodel the building that will become their place of business.

Still, as noted earlier, the cast is uniformly excellent. Meryl Streep has a field day playing a manipulative homewrecking she-wolf dressed in (pink) lamb's clothing, and Roseanne is a hoot as the hopelessly frumpy housewife who finally decides she's mad as hell and isn't going to take it anymore. Ed Begley, Jr., completes this unholy trio as the unlikely object of both women's desire. Indeed, a lot of the fun comes from the incongruity of casting these three actors in the same movie.

The DVD offers a crisp widescreen video transfer and generally excellent sound, and includes the Original Theatrical Trailer. Definitely worth a look for the performances, but do keep your eye out for the mini-series, which hopefully will be released on DVD sometime in the future.

Summary: Inferior to the British version
Review: I do wish the British version of this film made from Fay Weldon's book were available; it is far superior to the Roseanne et al. version.

Summary: Love the movie, Can't stand Roseanne!
Review: I have always loved this movie for it's blatant campiness and Meryl Streep! She is what makes this film. Ed Begley Jr. though good at his role is so incredibly unappealing that it makes it totally hard to believe that anyone besides someone who looks like Roseanne's character could possibly fall for him. He is about as horrid looking as it gets and to snag the leadinng male role must had meant he either had friends in high places or no one else wanted the role. Havne't a clue how they got Meryl to do this, but thank god she did! Roseanne is supposed to be the victim and we're supposed to feel for her, but she's so horrid that no one really cares what happens to her. Besides the extremely poor casting of the wife and husband this is really a funny film and its all due to Meryl's character.

Summary: I'm not a Roseanne fan, but liked this more than I expected
Review: I was surprised how entertaining I found this film. I am not a Roseanne Barr fan, and she is made up especially obnoxiously here (a huge mole under her nose, a moustache that waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon, apparently.) But she delivers a good version of a frumpy housewife who turns her rage at infidelity into both revenge and triumph. Of course, the film barely explains the initial attraction of Bob Pachett (Ed Begley, Jr) for the homely Ruth. And Pachett turns into a sleeze all of a sudden? These disconnects, however, are minor as this is a frothy sort of film, full of sight gags and toilet humor.

I think this is good if somewhat mindless entertainment, but I enjoyed the excellent cast (Begley, Jr, Barr, Streep, Linda Hunt) and the shenanigans. Just don't watch it if going through a bitter divorce.

Summary: ROSEANNE AND MERYL ARE FANTASTIC..SO IS HE :-)
Review: I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A ROSEANNE FAN, WATCH HER EVERYDAY, SOMETIMES TWICE! THIS HAD TO BE ONE OF THE FUNNIEST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN. THE ONLY THING I REGRET IS THAT I DIDN'T SEE IT PRIOR TO MY EX-HUSBAND LEAVING ME UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES SO THAT I COULD OF UTILIZED SOME OF HER IDEAS!! MAYBE IT WAS JUST AS WELL. ANYONE THAT ENJOYS ROSEANNE, SHOULD NEVER MISS THIS MOVIE. I HAD TO BUY IT A SECOND TIME BECAUSE I LENT IT OUT, AND THE BORROWERS MOVED, HOW DARE THEY, MY FAVORITE MOVIE!! ALL KIDDING ASIDE, ROSEANNE, MERYL STREEP, ABSOLUTELY COMPLIMENTED ONE ANOTHER IN THIS TOTALLY HILARIOUS MOVIE!

Summary: Old favorite gets back some new scenes
Review: I've loved this movie for many years, but recently saw it again and was startled to see many scenes I'd never seen before. Now I've seen this movie start to finish more times than I can count, and could probably recite it line for line, and they were NOT in it before! If you've never seen it, get it. If you have seen it, still get it, there's MANY new scenes that will add a lot to the movie!

Summary: "She Was A Teenage Tramp!"
Review: If there's one thing this movie has, it is unforgettable one liners. The ridiculous pairing of Roseanne with Meryl Streep as dueling women for the affection of the ever sleazy Ed Begley Jr. is one of the most fabulous combinations ever. With support from Sylvia Miles, who plays Meryl Steeps' crazy, sadistic mother, She-Devil easily becomes one of the best comedies of all time.
