Summary: I couldn't last half a freakin hour into this dung!
Review: Steve Martin is an excellent comedian and Queen Latifah was absolutley fabulous in the musical "Chicago" and the movie's plot idea was very interesting, the idea of a wealthy businessman having his world intermingle with that of a poor (lacking a lot of money) woman who is in trouble with the law.

Sadly however, this movie squanders everything that could've made this movie great. The acting is absolutely atrocious and the script is horrible and without any strengths. Steve Martin really drops the ball with awful acting and embarrassing attempts at humor. He's better than that. Queen Latifah fares little better.

What also kills this movie for me is how offensive and excessively stereotypical it is. The dumbest part for me was when the character played by Martin dresses up as some hip-hop raver just made me laugh in derision at the scene. Not that it's obscene but it's just such a massive joke for such a talented actor to really slip on a banana peel like this. What were you thinking Steve? (Shakes head) I also hated the stereotypes that this movie seems to bring up about the African-American societies in this country even though in some ways we are still quite polarized.

This movie was already doomed to begin with even when it had potential. "Bringing Down THe House" could really have been a funny, witty, and original movie but whatever on Earth happened in it's making, it really destroys this movie.

BDTH is complete rubbish and should be depolymerized immediately because it's a waste of natural resources and we cannot afford to waste them on making such God-awful movies. End of story!

Summary: Talented cast carries predictable, fast-paced comedy
Review: Steve Martin plays off of Queen Latifah in this enjoyable comedy. While the story and action are silly and unrealistic in many scenes, the main duo of Martin & Latifah bring charisma to their roles, while the story is spiced up by subplots, one involving a character played by Eugene Levy (The Dad from the American Pie films), another involving veteran English actress Joan Plowright, and additional supporting roles by Jean Smart as Martin's ex-wife and another actress playing a nasty sister-in-law. The one scene that I think should have been pared down or removed is where Latifah and the sister-in-law get in a vicious, bruising fight. Betty White has a small role as a racist neighbor who happens to be the sister of Martin's boss, making for some good laughs. Overall, this story is contrived, formulaic, and seemingly tasteless at times, yet it works very well due to great casting and performances, which make the humor in the film seem funnier than it otherwise might be. The DVD has some interesting bonus looks at the cast & filming, making this a worthwhile DVD to buy or rent.

Summary: Funny
Review: This is about a lawyer played by Steve Martin who is divorced and ordered a girlfriend of an ad. He is rich and lives in a good neighbourhood. He didnt know that an ex convict (played by Queen Latifah) would turn up at the house and it goes on.

Some funny parts are Steve Martin going into a black club dressed as a gangsta and the posh old white woman in the black club getting drunk and stoned.

Overall it is a funny movie

Summary: Great movie. Very funny and charming.
Review: I bought this DVD almost two years ago. I saw it and I thought it was going to be an hour and thirty miutes tops. It lasted about one fifty. But I gotta say, those two hours were full of laughs and entertainment at every minute. One of the best DVDs in my collection and I watch this one almost every week. If you like descent slight comedies full of laughter and joy, I suggest you watch this one. If you like those kind of crazy comedies in which you pee your pants, watch BEVERLY HILLS NINJA.

Summary: Amusing But A Nothing Special Story
Review: Steve Martin and Queen Latifah put on a good performance in the movie Bringing Down The House. Martin's shifts from being an uptight lawyer to posing as a hip rapper. His antics in the club are truly amusing. Queen Latifah plays her part with conviction as a troubled woman trying to clear her name in an armed robbery. She looks towards Martin as the missing piece to resolving her dilemna. Eugene Levy is quite entertaining as Martin's side kick. He varies his role ever so slightly from the series of American Pie movies. But the fit is a good one.

The storyline however is a bit ridiculous. How Queen Latifah's character takes over Martin's palce with a gangster party questions the authenticy of Martin's security system which was employed only a couple of scenes earlier. Also the many shifts with Latifah being a maid and a love interest grows a little cumbersome in spots.

If you do not take this movie too seriously you might like it. However Martin has been in better efforts like both Father of the Bride movies, Dirty Rotton Scoundrels, and The Jerk. Latifah also fares better in the critically acclaimed Chicago. A middle of the road movie this definitely is.

Summary: Funny From Beginning To End!
Review: Queen Latifah and Steve Martin star in this hilarious motion picture. This movie is about an ex-con named Charlene (Latifah) who hooks up with Peter (Martin) via a Yahoo! internet chatroom. Charlene requires Peter's help who isn't always willing at the beginning to give it to her. Somehow, she gets him to help her and the ride begins! Charlene needs to find out and prove how she was set up and how she didn't rob a bank. Many phrases from this movie stay with you. Latifah is hilarious! Martin adds to the pandemonium with his "ghetto" outfit and dance scene in the club. This is a fun, adult movie.

Summary: Humor!
Review: Steve Martin and Queen Latifah team up in this flick to bring you some great lighthearted entertainment. Martin plays a very uptight lawyer who is divorced and raising two children. Queen plays a convect who desperately needs Martin to take on her case and prove that she is innocent.
As the story moves on Queen Latifah moves into Martin's house and the fun begins as Martin and the children learn how to enjoy living again. There is a problem however, as Martin is trying to close a deal with a very uptight wealthy women who would never approve of the happenings in Martin's house.
This movie was fun and also made you stop and think about smelling the roses along our life journey. An enjoyable movie.

Summary: GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
Review: BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE is a movie reminiscent of "Sister Act"; a lady with a heart of gold, but a criminal past, teaches a stuffy lawyer how to become a good father, husband and friend. Physical comedian Steve Martin mugs his way through the role in expected fashion; any true flashes of brilliance are far and few in Martin's performance. Queen Latifah struts, sashays and moves as one would expect from a full figured rap singer, who got an Oscar nomination. She can be funny at times, but she can also be blustery, obnoxious and a little overbearing. I'm not sure if this is the character or perhaps the Queen herself?
The movie actually gets its boost from Joan Plowright and Eugene Levy. Plowright plays the snooty rich lady whose account Martin is trying to sew up; her scene in the nightclub is hilarious and it's to the marvelous British actress' credit that she comes across so well. Cheerio, Ms. Plowright. Levy plays Martin's buddy and his infatuation, no let's say lust, for Latifah gives the movie a comic thrust. Kimberly J. Brown also does well as Martin's fifteen going on thirty daughter, as does Jean Smart as Martin's ex-wife and the batty Betty White as a snoopy neighbor.
BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE is not as awful as some may suggest; it's just not as good as it should have been.
