Summary: Decent but forgettable sequel
Review: Trying to maximize on the wonderful chemistry and timing that made "Analyze This" really work, the producers here opted for a soft Part II that doesn't advance the characters or plot much at all. The writing is lazy, with a few laughs, but not particularly inventive. This feels like a "coast." By the end it devolves into a action/heist flick that banishes any charm that the movie might have built from the beginning. There were some potentially rich subplots here, but it all amounts to a less than memorable film.

Summary: Harold Ramis' Analyze That
Review: Robert DeNiro and Billy Crystal return in a sequel that takes an unsubtle swipe at "The Sopranos," and offers little else.

Paul (Robert DeNiro) is in prison and Ben (Billy Crystal) has settled down into a routine life in suburbia with wife Laura (Lisa Kudrow) and his son. Someone is gunning for Paul in the big house, and Ben's father dies. Paul has a complete nervous breakdown, singing the score to "West Side Story," and he is released into Ben's care (after some very funny psychoanalytic tests). Of course, Paul was faking and of course, the FBI knows, trailing the men as Paul must suddenly go out into the world and get a real job.

After several employment mishaps, Paul is hired on as a consultant on the mob TV series "Little Caesar." There, he reunites with his old gang and they begin planning a huge heist. Meanwhile, Ben is still trying to grieve for the father he sometimes hated, popping pills and trying desperately to keep Paul in line. In the end, we find out who was trying to kill Paul, who may be redeemable after all.

Like its predecessor, "Analyze That" is merely okay. The focus here is definitely on DeNiro, as he is featured in almost every scene. Ben takes a backseat in the film when in fact his situation dealing with his father's death (running gag: "He's grieving, it's a process") is more interesting than Paul's heist and double crossing cronies.

The film takes an almost angry look at "The Sopranos" in the form of its fictional show "Little Caesar." Naturally, I felt a little hypocrisy at this stage. A fake movie about mobsters poking fun at a fake TV show about mobsters.

While no laugh riot, there are some bright spots. DeNiro has the funny psycho tests scenes, and Crystal is very natural while watching his life unravel. If you thought Kudrow's role in the first one was overpraised, then you will completely think the same here. Her lines seem hurried, like she did this over lunch hours during "Friends," and she is once again completely wasted in an underwritten role. Joe Viterelli is always good as Jelly, Paul's henchman, and Cathy Moriarty is fine as a rival crime boss.

"Analyze That" is a ninety five minute foul mouthed sitcom, complete with end credits outtakes, that has its likable characters and not much else. The initial "mobster/shrink" gimmick wore off long ago, and a third movie does not seem likely.

Summary: Brawl In The Family...
Review: ...some scenes are Murder. Like the Vitti's dream and the Doc's taking of too many i-boo-por-fin before going to the restaurant. And Jelly's dislike for squishy, raw squid. ... And hopefully you will simply have a good time laughing at it's good natured silliness.

Summary: wack:the first one was Hit&Miss to Me overall
Review: typical Hollywood to try to run another slot of Formula but this Film wasn't that Good the first time&this time out it has some funny bits but it's Clumsy&Corny on a whole.it just doesn't hold up&the acting seems forced&just there overall.Robert De Niro who is one of My Favorite Actors Ever hasn't had a Knock Out Film in Ages.He has gotten Corny for almost a Decade straight.Billy Crystal a Good COmedian who has had Moments has fallen way off as well.with these Two Cats you'd expect at least a Pretty Good film but this doesn't even come close.

Summary: the 2 knuckleheads are back again
Review: Crystal returns as DeNiros shrink as Crystal brings DeNiro home because hes recomended insane and crazy but DeNiro faked it and wanted to break out. DeNiro sings West Side Storys Im So Pretty and that tune got stuck in my head for a week and a half. but the highlight is when Crystal has a squid dinner after taking , I think it was a numbing substance and, you gotta watch it, its, it made me laugh so hard because his bottom lip is numbed up, he has squid in his mouth and hes trying to talk at the same time. doesnt have that taste that the original sparked but otherwise its good and Joe Viterelli as Jelly is great

Summary: LACKS THE SPARKLES OF FIRST, BUT FUNNY NONETHELESS
Review: It's not easy for a sequel to notch up to a super first movie. Analyze This was a marvellous comedy -- sharp, witty, and laugh-out-loud hilarious with just the right mix of smart lines and visual gags.

Analyze That suffers from the younger sibling syndrome. It's clear they scampered to recreate the infectious chemistry between De Niro and Crystal in the original, but it's just not as crisp. Too many moments look affected, and too often the story plods into unnecessary melodrama. A supposed big heist as the finale is a bit of a gyp, clinched by the very last scene which could really have been done without.

That said about the plot (or lack of it,) the hit and miss A-That also has its moments. I can think of at least 10 memorable one-liners, and there are patches in the movie when you feel light hearted, but the humor is rather dry. Lisa Kudrow squeezes in perhaps 6 minutes of airtime.

I adored the original. Based on reviews here, had pretty low expectations. It's not that bad, in its own right it is even a fair movie, but is not up to the task of matching up to its ripper of a prequel.

The soundtrack here is a bit better though. Some great R&B music (a genre I don't usually care much about) and the DVD has some interesting "Making of.." moments.

Recommended rental, not much more.

Summary: Better than expected but not as good as the first
Review: Every professional review said this movie was a disappointment. Just goes to show you that professional reviews aren't always right.

This movie was funny, well acted and well timed. Many good lines, the addition of Cathy Moriarty (Gentile? I know the Gentiles!) to the cast made the movie better and she and DiNrio interact great.

The return of Vitti to the street and the inclusion of his crew in a Mafia TV show are very funny. The Chinese restaurant scene was great but from the outtakes at the end would have been even better if some of the cut scenes were included.

The ending is a little abrupt. It would have cost the movie 1/2 a star but the quality of the action and the actors keep it going.

A toss up.

Summary: One of DeNiro's Worst Movies
Review: I liked Analyze This and purchased Analyze That for that reason. Unfortunately, Analyze That is not funny (with a few exceptions), has a contrived plot, and frankly is an embarrassing movie, one of the worst I have seen recently. Crystal and DeNiro have both done alot of good work; unfortunately, for both of them this movie is a disaster.

Summary: A real stinker
Review: This movie was terrible. Analyze This was funny. Analyze That was a waste of time. I think there was one part where I laughed but I don't remember. I fell asleep somewhere towards the end. Don't watch this movie.
