Review: I am 48 years old and for as long as I can remember this has been the funniest movie I have ever seen,and certainly in part to the largest collection of comic actors in one film. I have lent this movie to all my buddies at work and though not all agree that it's the funniest, they always enjoy it.............

Summary: A Very Funny Movie
Review: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" is a classic comedy that has a bit dated humor but can still be enjoyed today by audiences that are older than today's generation. The movie opens up with a scene where a car goes flying off of a highway somewhere in the Mid-West and a group of men that were driving by stop and help the man. They learn tht there is a hidden amount of money under a "W" right before the man passes away. This starts the race to find the hidden money that is the central plot of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." I am used to a different type of comedy style than what was in this film and I think if I had been watching this flick back when it came out I would have thought that the film was funnier. Don't let this make you believe that the film isn't funny, however. The film is a comic gem that is worthy of being called a classic but I think that older generations would enjoy this film more than younger generations. I ended up enjoying the movie more for its suspense and action than the comedy so I still enjoyed myself during the duration of the film. The characters are probably the funniest thing in the movie; well at least they are to me. In this film there is a cast of some old comedians such as Milton Burle and this makes the movie great. Each character seems so real and you just find the faults in their actions very funny. It is also very interesting to see how mob psychology takes effect when the characters interact with each other. This film is not neccesarily a must see film but it will entertain for the most part of the film. This is recommended to people that were around during the time when this film came out so the comedy will be interpreted better. This is a fun film that isn't great, but is worth a view sometime in your life. Happy Viewing!

Review: I have always thought this movie belongs in the top 10 of all time great movies. Sure, you may think it is stupid, dated, too long, etc., but that is what makes it a classic. Maybe I am easily amused. When I was planning to buy a DVD this was a movie on my must have list. I saw this movie at the Cinerama when it came out. I was 7 and it made a big impression on me. Of course in those days the Cinerama was plush and luxurious, and I remember the actual intermission. I wish I could find the multi-page glossy booklet which was handed out to all. This movie is a hoot, everytime I watch it.

Review: This is a comedy that, for a British viewer, reads like a "who's that?" of 1960s American TV comedy. Too many of the "jokes" rely on the fact that there's someone "famous" appearing on screen for a couple of seconds. Examples: Jerry Lewis driving over Spencer Tracy's hat; Jack Benny in a car; The Three Stooges dressed as firemen. The edited theatrical version even manages to commit the cardinal sin of not giving Buster Keaton, one of the greatest filmmakers and comedians ever to fill the silver screen, anything remotely interesting to do. This film is overlong, plodding, dated and completely unfunny for anyone more advanced than the characterless Mack Sennet knockabout garbage of the 1920s. What's funny about demolishing a garage? The ending gag is also spectacularly dull: SHE FELL OVER! ON HER [bottom]! Much of the dialogue is excruciating. Examples: "What's a big W" ... "If we find out we'll send you a wire" (Geddit? The word "Wire" begins with W!); "I've said it before and I'll say it again: I didn't want to move to California" (What's all that about?); "We'll get on alphabetical" "I'm Ben G" (???); etc. ad nauseum. On the plus side, it is in Ultra Panavision (an anamorphic lens on 65mm negatives), which is one of the widest aspect ratios ever used, and Ethel Merman is very good as the hyper-feminist mother-in-law (itself a rather dated concept). Generally, you would be much better off watching an epic comedy that was beautiful, moving and genuinely funny. Buster keaton's The General springs to mind. While that film exists, and so many other great films, don't waste your time with this one just because it's in colour. Maybe this film could be saved by a DVD issue with the full aspect ratio and the deleted scenes restored, but I doubt it. Only for die-hard Spencer Tracy/Milton Berle/60s comedy fans. Summary: Simply One of a Kind
Review: On a sunny day in California several motorists are witness to an auto accident on a curving highway bend and the drivers last words are a cryptic clue to the hiding place of a stolen fortune,"It's under a big W!" This sets into motion a mad-cap spree to unravel the mystery and be the first on the scene, naturally the number of those after the loot multiplies. There are some uproarious scenes that are truly priceless including Phil Silvers honing to a fine edge his trademark hustling con man schtick and he makes you laugh out loud when he mocks a proper British accent. Jim Backus is hysterical as a high society souse who flies as high on brandy old fashions as he does behind the controls of an aircraft. Some scenes of course are not so funny and cry out for editing. All in all this is a sprawling and ambitious project that features at least a brief appearance by nearly every recognizable box office draw that graced the silver screen from about 1936 to 1956. It is a delightful Valentine Hollywood sent to itself and the jokes are still funny.

Review: My kids rented "Rat Race" and told me the I HAD to watch it. After five minutes of watching it I thought, "This reminds me of 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World'" Anyway, I rented MMMMW at the local video store and there was something wrong with the tape. Good thing, too because now I have this DVD and I can watch it again. By the way, my kids aged 12, 10, 8, and 6 thought this movie was great too. They can see why I thought of this movie when "Rat Race" was on.

Review: This is not the entire cut of the film. The orginal full length uncut Cinerama version is only available on a now discontinued laserdisc. I guess this will do until it is finally released forcing one to repurchase the movie.
However, it is one of the funniest movies ever made and worth a look even in its truncated version

Summary: One of the zaniest movies ever!
Review: IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD (1963) is one of the zaniest, funniest, and best movies I've ever seen. I won't spoil the plot, but it involves A big "W", $350,000, and a million people who want to get their hands on the money. Last year, a similar movie called RAT RACE (2001) was made. It's similar to this. The characters are great in their roles. Milton Berle (who sadly just died), Sid Ceaser, Phil Silvers, Dick Shawn, Mickey Rooney, and a whole bunch of cameos, such as Jerry Lewis, Jack Benny, The Three Stooges (for about 5 seconds), Buster Keaton, and many more. I'd would truly recommend this 3-hour movie. Grade: A++
