Summary: Bad
Review: The movie never finds its tone. It's supossed to be funny but it isn't, mainly due to its unbelievavility. The director treats some scenes as if it were high-comedy, and others as pure caricature, and it doesn't work. The first ones end up as ridiculous and the second ones as tiresome.
Also this is one of those movies where the 2 main characters are a gay couple and they almost don't touch each other during the whole movie. And I think they don't kiss once.
The dvd has a full-screen transfer.

Summary: Fun but plays to stereotypes
Review: The movie's about two homosexual hitmen and how they live as such under an Italian mob boss. The main plot of the movie is about how they live as such while trying to remain closeted to their parents. All this amongst a big wedding party while militia-type folk from the "unsophisticated" country-side try to crash the whole thing. I give it 3.5/5. Fun and entertaining and not to be taken too seriously. Certainly no academy award winner here. I do want emphasize the laughs and fun. I do want to comment on how the film plays to gay stereotypes. That's probably a bad thing but if the movie were to get too serious and lose the stereotypes, the movie might lose its lite relaxed feel.

Summary: Chewing the Scenery
Review: The premise is pretty good: a gay couple afraid to reveal to the parents, not that they are gay (everybody, including the Don, seems to be fine with that), but that they're hitmen for the mob. And some of the dialogue is clever. But most of the film is way over the top, particularly the rather childish subplot about the Indiana militia; and the gangsters who camp it up as cater-waiters are more embarrassing than anything else. There is also very little visible chemistry between the two leading men. On a more technical level, there are lots of problems with coherent narrative lines. The Great American Gay Movie this definitely is not. Keep looking!

Summary: Favorite gay movie ever because of its light-hearted FUN!
Review: The title says it all, this is my favorite gay-themed movie ever, because it is light-hearted fun. Sure it would have been nice to see more intimacy between the two leads, but I defy anyone to find a gay-themed movie that is more fun. And listening to the audio-commentary will double that fun. So let down your guard, and your prejudices and go with the fun flow of this delightful Mafia fable.

Summary: If it was any worst the mob would protest!
Review: Thie movie has three things going for it: handsome leads, great clothing, and Anna Marie. Everything else is just about trash. The plot is simple: Two hitmen, who are respected and loved in the mob, are lovers. But their parents, who know they are gay, have not idea , they are .........Hitmen for the mob! The plot then chokes this idea blue. Meanwhile all stereotypes get a beating: Italian guys, independent women, Wasps, balck gay men, queens, and Judy Garland( she is too good to even have her name mentioned in this crap). Yet again someone has thought that that good looking men with great clothes is all gay men really want too see( if only porn had though of this) These two guys never act like more than roomates with the same job. There is not love between them and one feels that they are only respected because they refuse to act like real lovers. They never kiss or touch, their friends, who are queens- act like gay men only come too ways closeted or way out- I f i had friend or family like any of them I would scream. A gay film should have three things : complex characters, interesting plots, and great writing-just like every other movie- Now that would be real equality.

Summary: perfect little film, perfectly done
Review: This little film proves that you CAN have a good gay film without sex and without nudity.

The chemistry between the two leads (Steven and Danny) was so good - they felt "right" together.

They managed to communicate volumes with the way they looked at each other. These are two talented actors.

We would not change a thing in this film

Summary: NOOOO!!!!!!!
Review: This movie is a complete waste of everyone's time. To anyone who is a movie buff such as I would say the same thing. It has a stupid plot and there isn't much of a conflict to keep the watcher interested. Honestly, if you really want to see this movie, wait until it comes on tv because you really shouldn't waste your money on it.

Summary: A delicious confection!
Review: This movie is a delicious confection, all lightness and froth and bubbling high spirits. A gay couple work for the New York Mafia and their parents pay an unexpected visit. The guys have to enlist their mobster associates to pull off a charade to convince the parents that they're not mobsters.

Far from exploiting or trafficking in stereotypes, Friends & Family skewers those characters who believe in stereotypes, most especially the goofy goombahs and the delightful but nitwitted Edward Hibbert character.

The characterizations in the movie may be a little thin - although I see a lot of real feeling underneath - but it is a farce, after all, and that's the only way farces can work. Although some of the humor is a little over-the-top, there's a wonderful old-fashioned restraint, too.

I hope to see more work from this creative team.

Summary: Very enjoyable, funny and light
Review: This was a great movie, no heavy theme and no big message. It was a comedy and a very good one at that. This is a must have for your collection.
