Summary: Ain't no Alda
Review: But then it probably isn't fair to be comparing the movie tothe TV show, since both have their own merits on their owngrounds.

"MASH" the movie is indeed a stirring look at the insanities of war and the resulting humor. Skerrit, Sutherland and Gould yuck it up as ne'er-take-seriously surgeons, and Robert Duvall is great as stiff religious Major Burns, a real jerk of a guy. Plus, Sally Kellerman is a hottie. The "Suicide is Painless" scene is eerie.

For those expecting the TV sitcom, the movie will appear to be completely different. But watching the scene where Burns and Houlihan go at it, and the boys slip a microphone into their tent, you're know these are the same characters you've always loved- they just look a little different.

And if you squint, Donald Sutherland kind of looks like Alan Alda.

Summary: Good, but the book is better...
Review: I first saw this when it came out, then I got drafted, then I eventually got sent to...Uijongbu. Whereupon I worked in the dispensary there.

Anybody who ever had to put up with the Army will recognize parts of this movie. And yes it's more about the Viet Nam era than the Korean war.

It does capture the idea of people who hate being where they are, but still try to do the best job they can while they have to be there. The book explains it better than the movie or the t.v. series did.

Summary: It was A*M*A*Z*I*N*G*
Review: This was one of the most brilliant, insightful, funny, poignant, compelling and sad movies I have ever seen. Every scene, which was a fragment, was much like Vietnam itself, fragmented, something to get through one day at a time, hopefully. One then hopes they have no recollection of the day before. (I am aware that the movie takes place in Korea, but it is a social commentary on Vietnam). Another thing that strikes me is how sensitive and touched the characters are; even though they try not to feel [or convey a sense of emotionlessness] and comedy is the release for all the emotions pent up during the day. There is no other way to describe it but as a satire of survival, (emotional, mental, physical). The only thing that may have made it better would have been to include another fragment on the end. You must rent it and savor it.

Review: When I saw M.A.S.H I tought it would be just at great as the episodes. But I was wrong. The episodes are great but the movie is not. When you have seen Alan Alda, Lorette Swit, William Christopher and Larry Linville ther is no going back. But if you love M*A*S*H as much as me you will watch it. It takes only 2 hours so just do it.

Summary: disappointing
Review: I wanted to see MASH while I was in the Navy, but the military refused to provide the flick to the Seventh Fleet during my service in the late 60's. I finally saw the movie at a revival theater in L.A. in 1977. I was disappointed at its uneven humor and pointlessness. Still, it has many good scenes and is definitely worth watching.

I think this is one of these cases where the TV adaptation is better than the movie and my expectations of the original movie were too great because of all the raving I'd heard about it.

Summary: One of funniest flicks ever!
Review: Great film, definitely an American classic. I saw the TV show maybe once or twice, and it never really impressed me. The film, on the other hand, is wickedly funny and has the kind of spirit that will keep you smiling throughout. Some of the bits are hilarious, even worth rewinding while you watch.

Summary: M*A*S*H is the best
Review: When I first heard about this movie, I expected it to be much like the series it spawned. I was wrong--it's even better!! Sutherland and Gould are possibly the greatest movie duet I've ever seen. They remind me alot of two college roomates, who take their antics on the road to Korea. It seems to me, though, that being troublemakers is the only way they can cope with the horrors of the war. In Frank Burns, the Swampmen see the war and the army they hate embodied in one person. They therefore torment him straight to the loony bin. The aspect of M*A*S*H that gives it its lasting appeal is the sense of emotional togetherness that the characters provide in the individual chapters in this movie. Through humor came a sense of trust and family, albiet a disfunctional one. A prime example: at the end of the movie, Hawkeye seemingly unwilling to leave without hearing his friend Trapper John urge him to leave. M*A*S*H is truly a masterpiece of modern American black comedy. We fall in love with the characters and feel their pain and joy, and with the survival of the human soul.

Review: When I first saw the movie I was use to the TV show people and I thought that it was good the way how Gary Burgoff played as Radar like on the show. This is a good funny movie.

Summary: M*A*S*H antiwar comedy of an Mobile Army Surgical Hospital
Review: I think M*A*S*H is one of the best movies ever made. It's no wonder it spawned such an award winning TV show. But I think that it's a great movie, one of the best, but the TV show has better story lines than the movie did. Gary Burghoff is the only one from the movie to reprise his role in the TV show. Walter Eugene 'Radar' O'Reilly is one of the best characters.
