Summary: "Full Screen" ...are you kidding?
Review: What brilliant MBA at Columbia Tristar decided that the best way to bring out a "Special Anniversary Edition" was to put it in home TV format? It's not the way it was filmed, it's not the way it was shown in the theatres, so why in heaven's name is this not on the DVD (or do a 2-sided flip disk, with full screen on one side and wide screen on the other)? Only people who seriously like the film are going to be purchasing a new edition of the disk -- Columbia Tristar is making a serious mistake -- any desk clerk at a video store would know this is a stupid decision. The film is a good one, some would say great, some say not, but if you like the film - full screen is an insult. The home video screen industry is very rapidly changing into high definition, wide screen format -- a lot of stores are not even stocking traditional screens anymore. Columbia Tristar -- what were you thinking????!!!

Summary: Wait for the Widescreen Version
Review: This would have been a nice DVD except they made the unforgivable mistake of releasing the "special edition" in pan and scan. My family really likes this movie, but we won't buy it on DVD until the studio comes to its senses and re-releases it in widescreen.

Summary: Great Movie, lousy DVD
Review: Why go to the bother of "remastering" a wonderful movie if all you're going to do is release a full screen version. It's absolutely painful to watch. There is so much missed that's just off screen. It's a huge disappointment because it really is a wonderful movie but this full screen DVD is just to difficult to watch.

I want my widescreen version! Please someone release one.

Summary: Great Movie But an Awful Pan & Scan DVD!
Review: I love the 1982 version of Annie and I think the movie itself deserves to get 4 or 5 stars but this new Special Anniversary edition DVD only being presented in edited pan and scan and not widescreen is just plain dumb! I want the whole movie not some edited hack job and I'm glad I kept my old DVD that has the movie in both widescreen (My Favorite) and edited fullframe), That old DVD may not have had any decent extra features but at least it had the movie in widescreen and it's a shame they are no longer producing that DVD and only this edited DVD. I hope they put out a Special Edition widescreen (Anamorphic widescreen if possible) DVD for those of us who don't like our movies edited! Annie is a long movie and John Huston was forced to cut some scenes because the movie would have been a lot longer if he hadn't and if they put out a Special widescreen DVD including those cut scenes I would definitely tthink about buying it and giving my old DVD away or trading it. The movie gets 4 or 5 stars but this edited DVD deserves less then 1 star!

Summary: Fullscreen is appalling!
Review: I agree that the full screen version otherwise distracts the viewer from what should be a great viewing experience. If there was any value in John Huston directing this movie, it is in the scope of the sets and the dance scences. In this version, it sometimes looks like some amateur put down their camcorder accidentally leaving it on--like when Molly sings "You're NEver Fully Dressed" there is a shot of the ceiling and you only see Molly out of the lower corner of the screen! Bizarre, and I hope they come out with a widescreen version.

Summary: No wide screen is like a fake movie
Review: I think that the people who originally produced this wonderful movie deserve more respect for their effort. And the public in general deserve more respect for the money they spend in fakes like this. I bag to companies that produce DVDs with art like this one to use WIDE SCREEN formats with the best technology possible. In my opinion, it is a matter of justice and honesty. After all we are already well in the 21st century, (except, perhaps, in the minds of some people for whom "money" is the only art they know).

Summary: No Widescreen?
Review: The movie is great (loved it since I was a very little girl when it first came out) and the special features are well chosen (except the stupid video by "Play" of "Hard Knock Life" -- what a waste).

What I was really disappointed with is NO WIDESCREEN. I've seen others complain, and I'm adding mine to get another voice in on the desire for a widescreen version. This movie is so much better when viewed in its original form.

Other than that, it's great.

Summary: All the charm of the original!
Review: You can never go wrong with any Annie movie. This is an awesome DVD and has some very cool special features. Not your typical blah re-release of the same old movie. This DVD is worth every penny!

Summary: Disappointing Edition
Review: I gave it 3 stars because I love this movie too much for just a single star. The reason why I gave this 3 stars is for one reason and one reason only, no Widescreen. It's a slap in the face to the fans and the cast members out there who have worked hard making this film and the fans who have supported the musical over the years.
As an avid DVD collector, I like to buy Widescreen because I never liked the thought of having a film 'cut to pieces' to fit my TV screen. Annie 20th Anniversary of course is no exception.
Hopefully Columbia will hear our voices about this and release Widescreen in the next few months...with the same extra features.

I'm not giving up on this, not by a long shot. ;)

Summary: WARNING! DO NOT BUY THIS EDITION
Review: If you are any type of movie collector, don't waste your time with this pointless FULL SCREEN version. This is a wonderful, wonderful film that deserves to be treated as such. Why a studio would waste time and effort by releasing crap is beyond me. I am usually a vigilant shopper when it comes to DVD, with a collection well over 400, but I made the mistake of purchasing this edition and now I am stuck returning it.
