Summary: OTM (Other Than Mexican's)
Review: BORN IN EAST L.A.
Cheech Marin, Kamala Lopez 1987

Synopsis
Rudy Roblez (Marin), a long time resident of East Los Angelas leaves his wallet at home one day and is mistakenly deported to Mexico. While there, he tries to get back home, by taking odd jobs as he is flat broke and knows no one.

My Review
Hilarious. The song (done by Cheech) is a parody of Bruce Springstreen's "Born in the U.S.A". The scene where he gathers hundred of Mexicans and OTM's (other than Mexican's) to "charge" the border is classic. Also, the scene where he is hired as a tutor, to teach English to OTM's is a gem.

Summary: Cheech Marin's first solo film rocks all!
Review: Cheech Marin delivers yet another hilarious role in Born in East LA. In this movie Cheech plays American-Hispanic Rudy Robles, who when looking to pick up his cousin gets caught in an Immigration raid and is deported to Mexico. With no I.D. to prove his identity and no money to get back Rudy tries everything to get back to the states. After numerous schemes to sneak back into the America and being picked on by his deported jail mates Rudy gets a job with Tijuana club owner Jimmy, who is played by Daniel Stern. After thousands of mutiple orders which consist of, teaching Chinese Indians to speak English, getting people to come in Jimmy's club, and playing guitar with Mexican singers and hooking up beautiful El Salvadorian babe Rudy makes his way back to LA. Filled with comedy, laughs, and nothing but Cheech Marin. A must see TWICE film!

Summary: Funny Cheech in a Warmhearted Comedy
Review: Cheech Marin gives a winning, likeable performance in yet another "fish out of water" story. Cheech portrays Rudy Robles, a Los Angeleno of Hispanic descent who is mistakenly deported to Mexico when he is unable to produce identification at a factory that employs illegal immigrants. Essentially, the film is an episodic comedy of Rudy's various attempts to get home. This is, ultimately, a warmhearted comedy with a positive message that is marred only by some unnecessary profanity. It's a shame, because the message of self-sacrifice ought to be viewed by younger people (Rudy gives up his seat on a truck entering the US so that an elderly woman can be with her husband). Families might want to consider viewing the broadcast television version, which dubs over the profanity and includes other/alternate scenes, rather than this "R" rated release. This is, arguably, Cheech's best film and really showcases his fine acting ability as well as his comedic talents.

This DVD is another in a series of older Universal films that have been licensed to Goodtimes Home Video. Although the film is presented in full frame, this is one of the few times that it didn't seem to hurt the presentation. As is the case with most Goodtimes releases, the only extras are chapter breaks and subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

Review: Does the dvd have the ending? With Rudy going to his house to get his wallet. Then getting married on the float by an alternative priest?

Summary: Don't buy this version. It's edited!
Review: Don't buy this version of Born in East L.A. They cut out the last half hour of the film. Try finding a version with the original cover, that has Cheech Marin crossing the border through barbed-wire. Otherwise, I would give this movie a 5 star rating.

Summary: FUNNY AS HELL!!
Review: For all the times you would like to know what it's like for immigrants to go through what they do, this movie does it. But it does it in the most hilarious, spoofiest way possible. It's packed with crude, sick jokes only a certain few will appreciate. It's one of the funniest ones ive seen and don't let it pass you by!!!

Summary: Great movie if it was complete.
Review: I bought the Goodtimes version used and was disapointed the end was cut. Ipicked up the Universal version and found out it was also missing the last part of the movie. 5 stars for the original version, 0 stars for these versions.
