Summary: Nicely Done But....
Review: ....the fact that the energy is very sporadic is noticeable and spoils it.

However, hats off to Stephen Mackintosh who is very good as the very feminine and complicated Kim. The mannerisms are pretty good and he plays her with sensitivity, understanding and charm.

Rupert Graves isn't bad either as her chaotic schooldays friend Prentice who runs into her by coincidence and finds himself having to deal with the fact that he is falling in love with his former best friend who used to be a boy.

Summary: Pleasant, informative, but not totally convincing
Review: A needed, pleasant and reflective vindication of my own journey, yet could have possessed so much more punch and "physical realism", if not required to film "personal" scene in dark shadows, if casted with an actual professional-actor transsexual. However, I would recommend it as a tasteful eye-opening, in defiance of all the negative sensationalism perpetrated by the arch-damager of all transgendered persons, Jerry Springer, and others of his sloven-stripe.

Summary: Beautiful
Review: A very accurate depiction of English school life and the scars it leaves!

A very sympathetic and beautiful film.

If you're male and straight this is going to make you question a few things!

Just lie back and enjoy it.

Summary: The Ultimate Re-Design Project
Review: As a designer, I have wortked with materials and processes to create new forms. I was taken by this film, which portrayed the ultimate in design or redesign/reinvention...of oneself. It is a truly sensitive, rationale, and believable portrayal of the fluidity and degree of polarity of human-gender, and the difficulties of projecting that phenomena upon a cosmos, firmly entrenched for centuries, with the notion that we are what we are, and nothing is mutable. Bravo to the bravery of the the production, and to Steven McIntosh, whose portrayal is proof of an ultimate thespian task..reflecting that sex and gender are highly temporal constructs, subject to revision-at-will, where we are only male or female for a "sliver-of-eternity".

Summary: CHARMING MOVIE ,CHEERS TO GRAVES AND MACINTOSH
Review: CUTE,CHARMING MOVIE. IM A FAN OF RUPERT GRAVES WORK. ALWAYS GIVES A GOOD PERFORMANCE BUT THIS TIME ITS STEVEN MACINTOSH WHO STEALS THE SHOW WITH HIS SUBTLE DEMUERE PERFORMANCE,UNCANNY. THE STORY IS PREDICTABLE AT TIMES AND LEAVES THE AUDIENCE WONDERING HOW PRENTICE (GRAVES)CAN SO EASILY FALL FOR HIS BEST FRIEND AS A WOMAN WHEN THEY'VE ESTABLISHED HE'S STRAIGHT. THERE IS PLACE FOR SERIOUS DRAMA THERE BUT THEY ASK THE AUDIENCE TO TAKE IT ALL WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. THAT ASIDE IT IS MACINTOSHS MOVIE AND HE PULLS OF THE ROLE WITH FLYING COLOURS. THIS IS AN UNTOUCHED STORYLINE AND IS OVERALL HANDLED WITH OPTIMISM, REALISM AND DOESNT TAKE ITSELF SERIOUSLY, ENJOY.

Summary: Good acting, decent script, just not my cup of tea
Review: Different for Girls is an interesting film. It is well acted and well directed. However, I don't know that it is a film for everyone. It deals with the subject of post "change" of a transgendered person and how they try to fit in to society. It is quite touching and sensitive. Steven Mackintosh is quite good as the transgendered person and Rupert Graves is dynamite as he is in everything he does.

If there is a problem with this film, it's that it seems to be preaching a bit more than I think it should. I'd rather see it less a drama and more "a day in the life of" sort of film.

Summary: Romantic Comedy????
Review: Erotic yes, romantic comedy no. However, even the video cover refers to it as such. I found the film touching and disturbing. My being a menopausal woman must be the problem. My sense of humor was probably the first thing to go.

Summary: "Different" Girls Score!
Review: Finally, a film with an honest, positive portrayal of transgendered and transsexual people! This movie should help destroy some stereotypes. Too bad it is a small film with limited distribution. Recommend this to everyone...a must see for all members of the human race.
