Summary: One of My All Time Favorites!!
Review: I cannot get enough of this movie! I think part of what makes it so great is the chemistry between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. In the movie, the two of them are business rivals and not very friendly to each other, but they are also falling in love with each other over the internet, not knowing who the other really is. This is the perfect romantic comedy in my opinion. If you liked Sleepless in Seattle, then you will probably love this movie just as much.

Summary: Bad character stays put
Review: My wife didn;t like this (she LOVED sleepless in Seattle). My teenage daughter didn't think much of it either.

Even Tom Hanks went public saying he didn't like this. The old mantra "it's business" must have been hard for him - he is no fool, probably the most sensitive bloke in showbiz at the moment, and this stupid phrase must have been ringing all the time.

This movie may work if the fiction applied universally, but in fact you have got to be kidding. The behaviour shown by the Hanks character is the pretty awful, and the failure of the movie is the failure of the misrepresentation. Movies work well, even fairy stories work superbly well when there is something which "connects" to that which is inside all of us, or at least, some of us. But the world is littered with stories such as this, but where the ending is pretty short and nasty.

Movies like this fail so badly because the amount of sugar coating required to encapsulate the poison is distracting, children, animals, "cute" music thrown in, but with so much desparation, it ruins the whole effect.

Summary: A romantic and funny movie
Review: It's a modern romance apart from Sleepless in Seattle. It's a joy to see two enemies actually becomes lovers.

Summary: Why ppl need to attack this movie, I will never know
Review: This was a GOOD movie, folks. get over yourselves! i read commentary after commentary from angry women b/c Tom Hanks' character "put" Meg's character's store out of business. Pul-lease. This is the nature of the business world. he didn't stand at her door and entice people NOT to enter and buy books! This is the way of free enterprise. He sold the same books CHEAPER. Her bookstore sold them for MUCHO DINERO. Hello??? Which one would you shop at??? There you go! He had no due loyalty to her. His job was to open bookstores. That's what he did. Besides, BEFORE his store came along, she was unhappy about her life's work. But she lacked conviction--and had too much nostalgia for her mother's dream--to close up shop and find something else to do.

Tom's character was not evil. He was not a bad man. He was a business man. And his store provides the masses with cheaper books. Why not fuss at Meg's character's overpriced bookstore??? Do you NOT shop at Wal-mart? Should the people who open Wal-mart stores be banned from romantic entanglements? Pah!

This was a charming story. Delightful and sweet. Enjoy!

Summary: Tedious and pointless remake of The Shop Around the Corner
Review: This sickly, sentimental, leaden, inept and extremely dull remake of The Shop Around the Corner bored me to tears. Meg Ryan is her usual sweet, winsome, girlish little self, Tom Hanks is, well, Tom Hanks, frankly he isn't James Stewart. I mean, if you can watch James Stewart, why bother watching Tom Hanks? If you want to see a good film watch The Shop Around the Corner, don't bother with this tiresome remake. Shop Around the Corner isn't as good as Trouble in Paradise, but then what is?

Summary: Not the least bit fun
Review: This is the perfect example of the "overblown drama of the summer" movie if I've ever seen one (next to "Stepmom").

Meg Ryan owns a small family book store, and it is highly important to her as her deceased mother took care of it like a child. Tom Hanks is the owner of a local book store that is one in a big chain across the country. The two hate each other...but secretly they've been e-mailing each other and having an online relationship.

Tom Hanks catches wind as to who Meg Ryan is. Despite this, he continues to put her book store out of business, and laughing all the way. At the end of the movie Meg Ryan meets him in real life...and is HAPPY about it.

So whats good about this movie? Not Meg Ryan's acting, and not the storyline. I got a few laughs, but that's about it. If you like movies where you actually care about characters and what happens to them, don't watch this movie.

Summary: Very sweet!
Review: This is a great movie, appropriate for the entire family.

Two people fall in love through letters (actually, email). They meet in "real life" - as business adversaries.

A number of conflicts are explored - the need to change, and desire to keep everything the same, the difference between "business" and "pleasure" and the way men and women look at work and their personal lives.

The basic goodness of these two people overcome everything else - and it's really a very wholesome sort of love story.

One of my favorites.

Summary: Comfort watching
Review: I loved this movie ever since i saw it in the theaters. It's a cute comedy, with beautiful Fall NYC scenery, great cast, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, Greg Kennear and Parker Posey.
Im not a huge fan or romantic comedies, id rather peel potatoes than watch them, but this movie is an ultimate comfort movie, cute, funny and so addictive. It's fresh, crisp and totally enchanting.
I've seen it at least 6 times and I know, I will wear out my DVD one day.

Summary: Better the second time around
Review: Nora Ephron directs another winner. The first time I watched this film I thought it was kind of "cute" but I wasn't especially impressed. The second, third, fourth, and fifth time proved I actually loved it! Although the plot may be a bit contrived, and a stretch of the imagination, I'm not bothered. I love that Hanks proves again that he is today's best actor. He isn't a total sweetheart, but he's a real man, and an aggressive business man who only finds time to show his depth to a stranger online. He actually reminds me A LOT of my father-in-law in this film, which he never has before. The speech about making decisions and Starbucks makes the whole movie worthwhile.

Summary: My Favorite Movie
Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. I watch it over and over again even though I know almost every word by now. It has great actors and a great story line. You'll love it!
