Summary: Watch This
Review: This is the best movie ever made (other that Star Wars, of course). My dad and I watch this every chance we get because it is always entertaining. Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Ving Rhames, and everyone else are perfect in this movie. Buy It!

Summary: What a great movie
Review: It's funny, it's touching, it's two thumbs way up. Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, and Ving Rhames are delightful. I giggle every time I think of the shower scene or Ving contemplating the move to sweaters. It's a light comedy that's a touch "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", a little "Prince and the Pauper", and a whole lot of sweet natured fun.

Summary: Don't miss this one
Review: If you love politics and political humor, you will roll on the floor while you watch this terrific movie. Kline is great in this dual role and the rest of the stars complement the story and are quite believable. On top of that, you get a couple of good whacks at the crew on John McLachlin's crazy panel. Helen Thomas and several other prominent reporters and politicians also toss in their two cents worth. Well worth watching, you won't regret the time you spend on it. You may keep asking yourself, has this been done in real life?

Summary: This review is for people who watch a movie repeatedly
Review: This is a review of the movie Dave for those who seek movies to watch repeatedly

"Are you watching "Dave" again?" How often I?ve heard that question these last couple of years. Last week a grandson who aspires to a career as filmmaker asked specific whys, and this review is a result. Here I attempt to discover why with so many options I choose to watch one movie frequently. I know I feel good both during repeated viewings and at the ending, even checking the credits to verify that I recognized a famous face appearing in one of the very effective cameos. ... The setting, Washington DC in the 90?s, its landscape, its ordinary and its prominent people have been beautifully photographed and or cast, and provide the reassurance that these events would have occurred just the way the story unfolds. The casting is, to my mind, fabulous. Dave?s secretary, his accountant friend, Murray, the girl at the car dealership, the little girl whose face and bright eyes form the Guzinta to the image of Arnold Schwartzenegger show an attention to casting detail that by itself brings pleasure. And when casting couldn?t find a Tip ONeal look alike, it secured the Speaker himself for a cameo appearance in addition to over three dozen other notables playing themselves (my favorite cameo is Oliver Stone trying to convince Larry King that there is a conspiracy). Finally, as I discover more nuggets in the film, I find delight in anticipating and savoring them the next viewing: consider the eyes of the First Lady when she, in terror, tries to fathom what her fellow escapee is doing to avoid identification by a pair of police officers. Once you?ve discovered this jewel you, on the next viewing, appreciate it again and marvel at all the other fantastic things Sigourney Weaver can do with those absolutely magnificent big brown eyes. So I?ll tell my grandson that the movie was well made, the casting and photography was so great that the story writes itself and I must see it over and over again to see how very appropriate and pleasing it is that things work out as they should. ... Young people, find strength and health through a truly well made feel good movie!

Summary: Kline, Weaver are solid. Colateral material a dud.
Review: Kevin Kline bears a remarkable resemblance to, well...Kevin Kline in this bit of whimsey from director Ivan Reitman (produced Animal House, directed Ghostbusters). Kline (Silverado, A Fish Called Wanda) portrays a likable man with an uncanny resemblence to the President of the United States, also played by Kline. The unlikable president has a stroke while having an affair with his assistant and Kline steps in to pinch hit while the nearly dead president stuggles to live. (This is not the only film where Kline plays the president. He also portrayed President Grant in the forgetable Wild, Wild West).

Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Ghostbusters, Gorillas in the Mist) plays the wife who no longer loves her wandering husband and presents the greatest challange for Dave. He must convince her that he is her husband and at first succeeds. But once she realizes that the president is not her husband, things really get interesting.

Frank Langella portrays the bad guy with verve, convincingly creating the constitutional crisis. Ving Rhames plays a Secret Service agent in the role that lit his career, Ben Kingsley makes a quick entrance as the vice-president, and Laura Linney plays Randi, the President's assistant who is with him when he has the stroke. She is best known for her role as Jim Carrey's wife in the Truman Show.

A number of characters who were politically important or recently washed up take a turn in front of the camera, as do talk show regulars. I think this was one of the first films to call on political commentators and politicians to make it seem real.

The colateral material is mostly text, hard to read, and the "making of" feature appears to be the trailer with a modest amount of commentary added. Very weak. The CD has one side in widescreen format, one in edited format to fit most screens.

Summary: I once caught a fish THIIIS big....
Review: Here's one catch you wont be throwing back. This movie magnificently shows how our President SHOULD act. Through occaisional physical comedy and several hilarious situations dealing with Washington politics and deceit, we learn that Dave (the replacement President) is a truely great man and learns how to deal with shady dealings and people only concentrated with themselves. After watching this movie, you'll definitely see political candidates in a different light.

Summary: "Double" Takes Over When President Dies
Review: Wonderful Comedy Drama starring Kevin Kline and Segourney Weaver. Kline plays a bit part actor who happens to look a lot like the President. When the President suddenly dies, a cover-up seems to be the only way to keep the country from panicing. Enter the double, coached by various high ranking politicians and, of course, protected by the Secret Service. There are many funny moments, but also some moving scenes that make this film a joy to watch. My favorite part is when the First Lady (Weaver) tells Kline that she had known for a while that Kline was not her husband. The ending is somewhat predictable, but nonetheless beautiful. I highly recommend this film on DVD, adding many features to the VHS version. A 5 star film!
