Summary: Woodman's Worst "Funny" Movie
Review: "Bananas" has to be the worst Woodman comedy ever made. Even as a major fan of Woody Allen, I have to admit it was a waste of time to sit through the one and a half hour of trying material. The usual ingredients that make his movies tick - clever dialogue, self-mockery, good rapport between leading cast et al - were clearly lacking. This is definitely one Allen movie I will not re-watch and one DVD I will not be keep.

Summary: Bananas is an early gem in the Woody Allen collection
Review: "Bananas" is one of those Woody Allen films that make us laugh both for the variety of his good jokes , and because of the theme of this particular plot. Rarely do we picture Woody to be a revolutionary fighting to liberate a small south american country and then being elected its leader. So along with occurences like this a large array of funny jokes , Allen takes us on a hilarious journey through his fight towards liberation in south america all to get the admiration of the woman he loves.

Summary: This review is a mockery of a sham of a travesty of two mock
Review: A typically minimalist Allen DVD, but that's how it should be. It includes an original theatrical trailer (as they used to be made, not just clips of the film itself but a separate small original short).

There is really no one good reason why this film is as funny as it is, but for some reason it works most of the time. Allen in his comedic heyday injected his own writing with Marx (both Karl and the brothers), Keatonesque physical comedy, and Catskills humor. The result is a mismash of intelligentsia revolutionary humor and pie-in-face (prunes, not cherry) comedy.

Recommended for anyone not familiar with Allen. An early 70s effort with many cultural reference that may go over the head of the under 30 crowd.

Summary: Not Woody Allen's Best ¿ But Still Funny
Review: Although not the purest of Woody Allen's flicks, "Bananas" does have quite a few moments of redeeming value. I see a lot of his sight gags still work, and his trademark pathetic chararacter is a good fit for the plot.

Quality of the film and the audio on this DVD was very good. As always, Allen's soundtrack fits each respective scene to a tee.

Good performance by Carlos Montalban as the embattled dictator of San Marcos, and those old enough to remember Howard Cosell and Don Dunphy will be tickled by their roles in the film. And look for a yet-unknown Sly Stallone as a subway punk.

Although this may not be the best of Woody Allen's offerings, I'll still take it. I feel it's one of those films you won't like if you don't like Allen's humor. But if you do.....enough said.

Summary: Snakebite!! Snakebite!!
Review: An Interesting tale with a few exciting twists. Fielding Mellish (Woody Allen) is so enamored of Nancy that he takes on her cause and then some. Due to a twist of fait he gets involved with the op-force and by default become more than he planed to be. Will he be able to eventually impress Nancy? Or will she be able to tell deep down that he is still Mellish?
Next to "Oscar (1991)" this is one of Sylvester Stallone's best performances. That's right Sylvester is in this also. By now you can tell I liked the Snake Bite Lady (Princess Fatosh.) Dorothi Fox did a convincing J. Edgar Hoover. Look for Danny DeVito. And I think they outdid the "Tom Jones (1963)" eating scene.
If you like this kind of dictator movie, you may want to watch "Moon Over Parador (1988) ASIN: 155880031X "

Summary: Crazy about bananas
Review: Bananas is, next to Sleeper, Woody Allen's finest work- in my opinion of course. I've actually fallen off of my couch laughing at the jokes. It's one of those films that intelligently parodies corrupt third world leaders, vegetarians, bad U.S. foreign policy and delis without ever losing the audience for even a split second. I'm no movie critic, but I'd say this one is one of the top 25 funniest movies ever made.

Summary: Vintage Allen
Review: Before Woody Allen fell in love with Ingmar Bergman, he produced several movies that rival the Marx Brothers, Mel Brooks, and Zucker brothers in pure happiness, laughter, and inventiveness. Bananas is a golden treasure.

Summary: Ah, Mi Vida, Consentida, Quiero Mas "Bananas"!
Review: Even if you're still angry with Woody over Soon Lee, or if you feel that Woody's movies tend to be a bit too self-congratulatory or self-referential or too New Yorky, you've got to see this flick before writing him off.

This is a very funny movie. If you enjoy Kurt Vonnegut's protagonist, Kilgore Trout, well, this is reminiscent of that. If you just like movies that are just plain stupid in terms of comedy, instead of shamelessly begging for laughs with gross-out humor, you'll like this, as well. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Neither does Woody.

It would take too long to explain the premise. Suffice to say that Woody went from a nobody working in a factory to President of a Third World banana republic in a most improbable way. Does he get the girl in the end? Let's check with color commentator Howard Cosell. Howard?

Summary: SCREWBALL ANTIWAR SATIRE..
Review: From the outrageous name "Fielding Mellish" to the screwball humor in this MAD-magazine type antiwar satire, this is one for the Best of Woody pile. The film grabs you from the first gag, and never lets go. It is laugh-out-loud hillarious with whacky situational scenes as a simple NYC boy gets embroiled in a rebellion in a small South American country (the rebels did not have a good tailor though, but couldn't wait). I was surprised to see a very young pre-fame Sylvester Stallone in a minor side role as a subway crook. The denouement of the movie is somewhat of a let-down (it may be me) but that's no reason to miss out on this superb comedy.
