Summary: This Movie is
Review: Excellent. The best movie of the year. I think that Sally Field will be a good director based on the fact that this is her directorail debut. Minnie Driver, Joey Lauren adams, and hallie kate eisenberg are excellent.

Summary: great movie
Review: for one, this movie didn't win any oscars because it was a good movie.. i mean, jeez, moulin rouge and brigette jones diary are nominated for god's sake, and both those abosultly stunk... but this one is a good dramatic comedy..its just a fun to watch feel good movie with no harsh language, no gorey scenes.. safe to watch with any child or adult that might get offended by other movies but can still remain entertained by this one..plus its got Minnie Driver in it, which is a major plus for eye candy.. but seriously, i recommend for anyone to spend the time and watch it..

Summary: Beautiful
Review: Hi, ... I can watch and enjoy this movie with my mom or my grandma. Every time I put it on my mom is willing to watch it with me and she has tears in her eyes every time. If you like good chick flicks, this one is for you! Even my brother and my dad liked this movie.

Summary: Great acting...
Review: I bought this DVD the moment I saw it in the stores 4 days before it's official release date. Despite being a chick-flick, this movie highlights great acting on the part of Minnie Driver, Joey Lauren Adams, and even Hallie Kate Eisenberg (whether you like her or not in the Pepsi commercials, this girl has a bright future ahead of her). Sally Field, did a great job of bringing this story of a young woman's dream to be crowned "Miss America Miss" to the screen. The acting of the women who portrayed the other contestants was spot-on as well and really lead you to believe that they would do anything to be the most beautiful. Ladies you've got to see this with your friends, but hey, make your man watch it too (payback for the Arnold films). Who knows he may even like it, I know I did.

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: I did enjoy this movie, but I still had a few problems with it.

In general, it's a film worth seeing, with plenty of comedic and dramatic moments to keep your attention. I grew up with a sister in beauty pageants, so I can tell you that the satire is not too far off base.

My biggest problem was that I just didn't understand the motivation for Joey Lauren Adams's character to continue to put up with all of the things that Minnie Driver's character dished at her. Who would put up with that stuff? The complexity of Minnie Driver giving up her child to Joey Lauren Adams while still living with her is not true-to-life. Imagine the emotional issues this would cause with all three of them - yet, they seem to see this sort of thing as "normal."

I was not disappointed in the acting and did shed a tear at the end of the movie. I would recommend seeing it, just maybe not buying it.

Summary: Destination Films failed for this movie
Review: I do like Destination Films. The only movie I like from Destination Films is Thomas and the Magic Railroad because I like Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends. This movie is stupid. Destination Films tried its best for this movie, but did terrible with other movies other than this one. Destination Films should make more movies now. I hope so.

Summary: Barely watchable - best thing about this is Haley Eisenburg
Review: I expected a lot more out of this film than it delivered but I kept watching for only one reason - Haley Eisenberg who displayed far more poise and talent in this one than Minnie Driver - and usually I'm a fan of Ms. Driver. But not this time.
Maybe it was the weak, overly sentimental script. Maybe it was the plodding, often dull, story. Nothing wrong with the basic plot - beauty contestant hides the fact that she is also a mother - but unfortunately, the whole film needed a dose of originality and lively dialogue. Even some real humor would have been appreciated.
Minnie Driver is grating in this film, alternately selfish, manipulative and teary-eyed. Give me a break, please. I will admit, however, that I enjoyed watching young Ms. Eisenburg give her a hard time, mainly because Driver's character was asking for it.
Bottom line on this one - pure sentimental junk, not bad enough to be kitschy and not good enough to be worth your time. I don't blame the actors. They've showed their talent in other films. Unfortunately, they weren't given a script worth their talents this time around.

Summary: Beautiful is Ugly
Review: I have faithfully watched Ms. America since I was knee high to a grasshopper, in hopes that one day I could wear the crown. (Maybe, just maybe.) But Beautiful, though written in fiction, is very cold. It makes beauty contestants look like airheads, and people who are totally self centered. Maybe some winners out there are like that. But all in all, Beautiful makes pageants look bad. Minnie Driver plays a lady who has wanted to win Ms. America since she was little, and will do anything to get the tiara. She even would lie about having a her illegitamite baby, just so she could win. The movie ends rather predictably. I enjoyed the movie, because it was so, well, darkly funny, and of course, involved pageants. And yes, it tries to tie some family values in at the end. I'm starting to ramble, I better stop. To put it plainly: Watch it. Laugh a little. Just don't come yelling at me when you get sick to your stomach.

Summary: chick-flick
Review: I saw this movie with my friend, and it was a choice between this and a football movie. We saw this, and we left the theater almost crying because of how sweet the end was, both agreeing that Minnie Driver's charecter had been evil until the very end. Anybody who is a fan of chick-flicks, or movies with sweet endings has to see this!

Summary: I'm surprised of the bad reviews.
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and think Minnie Driver was perfect for the role...not really a beautiful woman, yet able to pull it off through pure determination. I found the pagent behind-the-scenes of vicious women smiling and winking for cameras and judges while all the while wanting to rip each other's throats out really amusing and well done. I did not think this movie was stupid at all - it was entertaining. It was funny and it had a good moral to the story. I had to rewind and replay several times the scene where these little girls watching the pagent on television ask "what just happened?" and their mother is crying into a hanky and explains to them in long feminist and existential terms. Really funny.
