Summary: Really bad film!
Review: In all sincerity this is an awful and dull film. If you want a black-and-white, slow-pased, poorly written, poorly filmed, movie for the night, this is definantly it! I suggest never to buy or rent this!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Perhaps the worst film ever made.
Review: It is apparently impossible to give a film 0 stars, so I have had to give it one. A Godawful mess bereft of wit, rhythm, or interest. Kenneth Branagh is alternately irritating and embarrassing as he does his Woody impression for two hours. The only good in this film is Leonardo DiCaprio's 15 minutes, during which he blows the stagey, theatrical, northeastern smarty-pants segment of the cast out of the water. Seriously, if you enjoy this film on any level, there is something wrong with you. And I like Woody Allen.

Summary: Avoid at all costs...
Review: It seems Woody Allen's best work lays in the days behind him rather than the days ahead of him. I can't remember the last time Mr Allen made a good film. It seems that the 90's was his downfall. This 1998 film is very boring and tedious to watch. Next time Woody bring a story along for the ride.

Summary: Ken dithers......
Review: Ken stammers....Ken does Woody........and that's the best thing that can be said about this particular film - Kenneth Branagh's ability to become Woody Allen. Mr. Allen directs one of this century's foremost Shakespearean actors in such a way as to have accomplished a 'reproduction Woody'. Additionally, Allen's use of handcam style filming goes out of it's way to make Mr. Branagh look as old and dissipated as Woody himself. However, to be fair, fans of the 'Woody Allen genre' will probably enjoy this Allen formula film. The angst of the lead character as well as tongue in cheek skewering of the rich and famous abound. Watch for Winona Ryder in one of the earlier films she made outside of the 'good girl' box.

Summary: Why are people mad at this movie?
Review: Kenneth Branagh is delightful in this film. Forget about Woody Allen for a moment and appreciate the performance (ask yourself if anyone could have done it better). I couldn't stop laughing! Every line of dialogue in this film is worth catching, Judy Davis is fantastic, and it's just a genuinely entertaining movie. The one star and two star ratings are ridiculous. Typical of arm-chair critics to blast a film when it doesn't fit the expected Allen mold. This is an excellent film, great dialogue, enjoyable plot.

Summary: the woody allen clone
Review: Kenneth Branagh's irritating Woody Allen imitation ruins this movie. A waste of a good cast and certainly a waste of a typical excellent performance by Judy Davis. Woody's acceptance of this imitation says something about his ego. For Allen fans or for Davis fans--maybe.

Summary: Could not reach the end...
Review: Man, I love most of Woody Allen's movies, but I could not reach the end of CELEBRITY. AFter the first fifteen minutes I realized was in for a journey of perseverance, but I failed: I was simply not in the mood to watch a film that I surely would not enjoy.

Until the part I watched, I did not like the pacing, the plot or the characters. I tought the movie was slow, boring, lifeless. Probably, the so-called "authentic" WOody Allen faans will say I'm nuts and that the movie is a masterpiece. I disagree.

Summary: One of Woody's Lowpoints
Review: Of course, everyone who is interested has by now heard the critics complaining about how pained and annoying Kenneth Branagh's Woody Allen impersonation is in this film, and it is absolutely true. But besides that, Celebrity is surprisingly lifeless. The acting (such asthe performance of the usually excellent Judy Davis) doesn't hit the mark and generally feels exaggerated and false, and the story is a patische of other Woody Allen works and a calculated attempt to appeal to a younger audience. All in all, it's just a bore, and I am a Woody Allen fan, and I can say--having seen all his films--that this one and September are the only two I generally dislike...

Summary: Inutile and inefficacious
Review: One of the worst Woody Allen movies ever made where even Woody isn't played by himself. Typical, overused, desperate characters trying to live their lives; they all go to shrinks; they all lie and cheat, yada yada. We've seen this all before. I found it impossible to watch in a single sitting. The one shining moment of this film is Leonardo DiCaprio's performance in a Pulp-Fiction-esque scene as a superstar teen idol with a dark, hedonistic side. Still not enough to pull this up to 2 stars.

Summary: If it wasn't Woody, you'd all love it
Review: The expectations are higher when an artist like Woody Allen makes a movie. If some no-talent little jerk with dirty hair made this, you'd all be falling over each other to meet the next Great Young Director.

As it is, I will admit its not Woody's greatest effort, but it certainly is not as bad as most of you are making it out to be.

And I agree that Leonardo is great and he stands out - his scene is classic Woody. Winona Ryder and Famke Janssen and Charlize are gorgeous and its all good, as far as I am concerned.
