Summary: Great Film About College Life & Friendship In The Mid-80s!
Review: Wow! I feel that this film was really good! The scenes were good and the soundtrack was AMAZING! This film included artists like "The Comsat Angels" (I'm Falling) Bryan Adams (One Night Love Affair) and Chaz Jankel (Number One) This is definetly a great 80s comedy/drama that can really teach you a thing or too about friendship and how things are accomplished by working together and co-operating! When I first saw this movie (Years ago!) I really liked it! It was so funny to see Val Kilmer before he got into all those action/adventure movies and just seeing this film at the time made me want to go to College so badly, seeing how fun everything was! I am sure any College/University student would love to have a good laugh at this film! This film is about 108 Minutes, but every minute is worth watching! Now, for a brief summary of the plot!

Mitch Taylor (Gabriel Jarret) is a 15 year old student who is one of the youngest students who is ever accepted into any type of University for students. At University, Mitch meets Chris Knight (Val Kilmer) who is one of the top students at the school. Working together, they both develop a laser which they think is intended for a class project, but after figuring out that their Professor Dr. Jerry Hathaway (William Atherton) is responsible for turning their work into a Goverment weapon and is then stolen from the kids by Hathaway, they don't get mad, they get EVEN! This film has so many twists and turns and funny parts (Like, who ever thought a genius could live in a closet!) So, keep watching and keep laughing!

Summary: "Did you suddenly find humour?"
Review: Chris Knight throws this question to Dr. Hathaway before getting expelled. For what? For flirting with the head of the CIA's daughter. The hypocrisy is that we later find her in bed with Hathaway ..hmm..

Everytime I watch this film I get distracted by the comedy of it all-like the lines "Compared to you most people have the IQ of a carrot. "We're different than most people, Mitch. Better." or "What do you want?!-(Chris:) World peace, but I don't think this is the time to discuss it." ....under all that jazz comes a deep rivalry between Chris Knight and Jerry Hathaway. Hathaway resents the party animal Chris has become, because the audience gets the feeling he's never had that kind of fun in his life, and doesn't know how to.

This film is hilarious, smoothly edited/directed, and so intelligent it's rediculous. Did I mention the soundtrack fits "Real Genius" like a glove?

Watch it and be inspired to appreciate life to its fullest-with humour and a little genius.

Summary: Caltech undercover
Review: This underrated and unappreciated film is a classic example of how the only way to make a good comedy is to treat the subject matter seriously.

Rather than adding to the well-deserved praise given by other reviewers, lemme give you a bit of background. "Pacific Tech" is, of course, Caltech. Although it has no access from closets, there really is an "infinite storeroom" under the old dorms. Though it's unlikely someone could set up their own lab and hide down there, it's not altogether impossible.

The young hyperactive student who can't sleep and knits at night really exists. She was modelled after the wife of a co-worker at Data I/O corporation. She and her husband attended Caltech at the time "Real Genius" was made.

The crazy stuff (such as putting a car in someone's room) is not far-removed from the truth. Such pranks are comitted on Senior Ditch Day. They're usually even weirder than those shown in the film.

Summary: Ice is Nice!
Review: Absolutely perfect. It's warm and witty with totally likeable characters all around (except of course for Kent and you know who), but most of all it's both funny as hell and unabashedly smart.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: You have to get this movie - It's a moral imperative !!
Review: I don't recall hearing about this movie while it was playing in theaters, but it found its way to me via cable movie channels. It became a guilty pleasure and I took every opportunity to watch it when it came on. Finally on DVD, this is a must for fans of "Smart people vs. Bad people" comedies. The humor is at a higher intellectual level than typically found (e.g. the Revenge of the Nerds movies) in movies of this genre.

The performances are first rate - Val Kilmer is over the top, but is precisely what this movie requires. William Atherton is perfect as the egomaniacal professor and Gabriel Jarret as the prodigy struggling against societal prejudices.

This is for anyone with fantasies of being brilliant, fighting evil, righting wrongs, or who just love a quirky comedy.

Review: Remember all those great 80's movies! This is one of those.

Summary: Great comedy and character
Review: This movie is a continuous laugh, but you need only mention one thing when reminding people which one it is "POP CORN". It brings growing up, university, intellect and war conscience all into one halarious story. Put that story with great acting, soundtrack and cinematography and you get a well rounded film. We will be collecting this DVD very soon (PAL version), and HOPE that it has specials on it. If you haven't seen it yet SEE IT!

Summary: Kent This is God
Review: I really liked this movie. It has so many funny parts in it. My favorite person in this movie is Laslow. It is a movie with teenagers in it but, it is not another teen flick. I have watched it many times and still find it funny.

Summary: Best College Comedy EVER
Review: Maybe it's just that I was in college when this film came out, maybe it's that I'm a big Val Kilmer fan, but whatever the reason, Real Genius is one of the funniest films ever made. It contains what I consider to be the single funniest line ever put on film ("Was it a dream where you see yourself in sort of sun God robes on a pyramid, with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you? Why am I the only person that has that dream?"). The mostly never heard from again cast (aside from Kilmer and Atherton) does a great job, and Martha Coolidge directs her best effort with a perfect contemporary soundtrack (though another reviewer is *definitely* right about the music being mixed far higher than the dialog). All of that said, it is an incredible crime against all people my age (mid to late 30s) that this DVD has **NO** features. An interview or commentary by Kilmer would be a must (not to mention director Coolidge). Kilmer told *great* stories at the time about his research for the role with the brainiacs at Pepperdine ... those should be ON THE DVD. What is it about these studio people that they don't get the whole point of the DVD medium. Putting just the film on DVD makes the studio look stupid, makes it clear they don't care about the film, and it's insulting to those of us who have been anxiously awaiting this release.
