Summary: "Fagabeefy?" Or Quintessential early '80's romp
Review: OK, in terms of absolute merit, I'll be the first to admit that this is not a 5-star movie. However, in terms of sheer, nostalgic fun and late-night silliness, Midnight Madness is a classic--as the numerous, heartfelt reviews here show.

The plot is simple: a mastermind, Leon, stages a Los Angeles-wide scavenger hunt, inviting five captains and their teams to play for everlasting glory. Heralding in the class-consciousness of later '80's movies, there are the White Team (nerds on mopeds); the Green Team (jocks in Meat Machine convertible); Red Team (sorority gals); Blue Team (outcasts in super-van with computer--TRS-80?); and Yellow Team (the good guys). Any bets on the winners?

It's low-brow, slapstick, often cheesy and utterly improbable stuff. Yet in its own twisted universe, it _works_. The best thing HBO ever did in its youth was airing this movie practically every day. I don't think I ever watched it from start to finish, but I watched segments so many times that it all came together. Barf and Melio playing the piano; Pabst Blue Ribbon; the Big Boy; MISS!!!!!!!; roller skates; the arcade . . . and of course, the immortal "fagabeefy?". Almost mindless, but pretty darn clean, especially in light of today's gross-out flicks. (It was Disney's second PG movie, after The Black Hole.)

Other amazing tidbits: this was the film debut of both Michael J. Fox and Paul "Pee Wee Herman" Rubens. Stephen Furst (Harold, the leader of the blue team) out-Flounders Flounder, his role in Animal House. The hotel desk clerk, Marvin Kaplan, played Henry on TV's "Alice." Andy Tennant, the snyde Melio, has gone on to bigger (if not better) things as the director of "Anna and the King" and "Fools Rush In." He also was a dancer in Grease and a greaser in Grease 2, and he was in "1941" with Barf (Brian Frishman) and the nerd leader (Eddie Deezan, Eugene from Grease).

Amazing, isn't it?, that so many threads of trivia should intersect in such an odd place. Glad to see so many share fond memories of this film--and yes, that ultra-groovy, catchy, cheesy title track: "When midnight madness starts to get to you . . ." You've gotta see it to believe it. Enjoy, even as a guilty, nostalgic pleasure.

Summary: A GREEAT CHEESY 80'S FLICK!!!
Review: Ok, like I thought my brother and I were the only ones in the world to have seen this movie on HBO. I'm 29 and I was about 14 when this movie was shown on HBO over and over and over. We both LOOVED it. Yes, its completely terrible, cheesy, sloppy, but FUN. I can't believe the cult following it has. Very cool. Don't forget, if you're lucky tonite you "might be able to see Venus' two moons"! And dont forget to "cleano uppo messo, OK? Fav. Scenes: Peggy and Lulu at the Starlight Disco, PBR, Harold outside Johny's Fat Boy (hey, like someone else said, I laugh every time I see a Fat Boy restraunt), the Bonaventure Hotel Finale, Candy and Sunshine, ect, ect. See this film and remember your youth!!

Summary: Leon is the "Game Master"
Review: This film has two things that make it a classic. Those things being Leon and his awesome t-shirt and the fact that the missing link is explained between the wolf from Teen Wolf and the wolf from American Werewolf in London. Surprise, they're brothers, and so are we. So if you love your family check out Midflight Madness dude.

Summary: Leon=The Highest Being
Review: When we gaze upon Leon, truly, we are seeing the most accurate personification of God ever captured on film. Few people know, or are allowed to know, that a copy of this movie was found by police in the VCR of Kurt Cobain in the very house in which he perished. He blew his head off.

Kurt Cobain was a disturbed individual and a drug abuser of the highest order, but "Midnight Madness" is, at heart, a sweet film. The good people really do come out on top.

May I return to a discussion of Leon? As Game Master, he pulls every string, but he also allows the contestants abundant latitude to do as they wish. Philosophers call this "free will." I call it genius.

This film is not for everyone. There is an uncomfortable moment when a white woman (and landlord to boot) refers to a black officer of the law an "ape."

Court records in King County, Washington State show that on March 13, 1997, Kurt Cobain's birth mother legally adopted his widow, Courtney Love. Think about that next time you sit down for a meal with your family.

Summary: FINALLY FOUND IT!
Review: I am so psyched! After years, decades, even, I've found the title of the movie I only remember small snipets from. I saw it when I was 10 and have never forgot how cool it was to see a bunch of kids running around at night looking for clues. I'm sure its a cheeseball of a movie, but to a 10 year old it was the coolest thing and I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN!

Summary: FAGABEEFE!?!?!?!?
Review: This movie has it all: a group of beer guzzling jocks, the mean spoiled rich kids, the misunderstood brainiacs, homely sorrority sisters and the loveable misfits. David Naughton is ON throughout, Steven Furst nails it as the villain and Michael J Fox gives a glimpse into the mind of a teenage runaway. Good clean fun for the whole family or frat house.

Summary: Adolescence Revisited...
Review: I will have to simply echo everything that has been said so far. This movie is a seminal experience in many lives as it introduced us to cable. Remember the brown box with a row of maybe ten buttons across it, and if you held a certain two down at the same time you could get the channels you didn't actually have (always looking for Scotch tape to hold that second button down)?

There is something about the atmosphere of this movie that stays with you. The idea of running around town all night on a scavenger hunt is really cool (especially to a twelve year old). As the movie winds down and the sun starts rising on the characters you actually start to feel sad. You don't want this zany night to end. I am 33 years old and cannot tell you how many times I watched this. Somewhere, in the back of some closet in my mother's house there is a worn-out VHS copy of this that I taped from HBO. It is great to have it on DVD. I actually ordered two copies...one for myself and one for my brother for his 31st birthday. He'll freak and not believe I found this.

In short, if you are a child of the 80's buy this. Nostalgia will immediately kick in. If this wasn't one of those watershed
movies for you because you weren't born yet, get it anyway. You'll love it.

And, just to jump on the bandwagon...Fagabeefy!

Summary: the geeks
Review: we had this movie on the extinct betamax video tapes.my younger brothers liked so much for some reason ,especially the geeky white team.they even started to copy their moves and poses.but i recorded first blood over it.so to make it up for them ,i bought the film from this site and gave it to them as a gift.after about five years! at least i made them smile.there in their twenties now.
about the movie it self ,it's an average college comedy, combines scooby doo's clues and the wacky racers variety of cars. the race masterminded by a weirdo student called leon ,who picks the college debate team in white, the football team in green, the girls zeta house in red, the rich boy team in blue, and the councellor team in yellow.the race is mainly between the evil blue team and the good yellow team-aint that nice-.there is also a big brother young brother thing going on between fox and naughton.
the cover says it's (michael j.fox )debute movie, also in the film (an american werewolf in london) david naughton and (national lampoon's animal house) stephen furst who was the only notable actor in the film.fox was promising.there is even a cameo from pee wee herman (paul reubens) himself in the arcade scene.
not good ,but not bad either.it's a nice- pg -family film.
p.s.it's starts like a classic seventies porn film, but don't let it fool you
