Summary: Classic Comedy!
Review: So great to have contemporary comedy classics like this one and really makes you wish a) Streisand did more comedies and b) O'Neal kept his figure. All the components come together just beautifully, right down to the last gag and character actor. Bravo to director Bogdonovich, who also contributes an enjoyable commentary track. (That is about the only Special Feature of note, unfortunately. Too bad there wasn't more...)

You will enjoy watching and sharing this colorful comedy!

Summary: Wonderful Screwball Comedy
Review: I saw "What's Up, Doc?" on a magical trip to Radio City Music Hall as a kid, so there was this paean to the 1930's screwball comedy in the perfect setting: the Art Deco jewelbox splendor of Radio City! What a great memory it was! Anyway, needless to say, all these years later, the film still makes me laugh and remains special.

As everyone else mentioned, it's a zany, fast-paced, fun romantic comedy about a geologist/musician Howard Bannister (played wonderfully by Ryan O'Neal) who meets loopy, sexy Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand at her most beguiling) on his way to a conference in San Francisco and gets caught up in a mad plot involving the mix-up of four identical red plaid duffel bags including his own. There is sharp dialogue, loads of wonderful sight gags and the cast is superb. O'Neal and Streisand are an improbably wonderful combination -- O'Neal compared a lot to Cary Grant in "Bringing Up, Baby" -- and Streisand simply vibrant, and the supporting cast features many top comedians including the late, great Madelyn Kahn whose phrasing, timing and delivery was just unmatched. As an added treat, Barbra sings the knock-em-dead opening song "You're the Top" (perfect!) and "As Time Goes By" (the latter on top of a piano). Superb entertainment and a joy for all ages!

Summary: STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS
Review: WHAT'S UP DOC is one of the finest screwball comedies ever made. Peter Bogdanovich lovingly embraced the genre with this 1972 film, and even viewing it today, it has all the charm and buoyancy one would expect from a romantic comedy, with all the zany slapstick.
The focus of course is the plaid suitcase: one has top secret documents; one has a collection of igneous rocks; one has millions of dollars worth of jewelry, and one has Barbra's undies. How these cases get mixed up and the ensuing chaos is only the tip of the iceberg. We have mistaken identities, a great chase scene through San Francisco; a crazy shootout, and so much more.
Barbra Streisand, a true star of any generation, is perfectly cast as the mischievous Judy, who has been in and out of more colleges than she can count; Ryan O'Neal, who at this time was a heartthrob, shines as the rather goofy musicology professor; Madeline Kahn is hilarious as the whiny and annoying Eunice---in her first role, her star was firmly set; The rest of the cast, most notably Stefan Gierash, Mabel Albertson, Liam Dunn and Kenneth Mars, are great in their outlandishly caricaturish roles. But this is a fun movie, one that makes you laugh and without any foul language or unnecessary sexual hiatuses.
It's a classic, and one you will enjoy for years to come.

Summary: Laugh until your belly wobbles - every time
Review: I first saw this film over 15 years ago and have watched it many many times since. Many comedies loose some of the magic once the plot and all the good gags are revealed, but not this one. It's even funnier when you know what's about to happen. I say buy it, watch it, and make all your friends see it too, to which you must reply, "Yes Eunice!"
