Summary: Great campy humor
Review: "Fresh from his glorious victory over the Cretins at Sparta--er, make that the Spartans at Crete"....

"Torquemada--do not implore him for mercy. Torquemada--let's face it, you can't talkimouda anything!"

"Don't get saucy with me, Bearnaise."

Lots of silly, campy lines make History of the World a real treat. As you'd expect with Mel Brooks, the cast is hilarious: Sid Caesar, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, Dom DeLuise, Gregory Hines, Bea Arthur, and the funny albeit typecast Andreas Voutsinas (who played Carmen Ghia in The Producers) as the saucy Bearnaise. Cloris Leachman as Mme. Lafarge ("no, no, dumb shkum") is a hoot as she rouses the rabble and wannabe Maurice Chevaliers on the Rue de Merde. Not on the level of Young Frankenstein, but still 90 mins. of good plain fun!

Summary: Judging Mel Brooks as a sketch writer
Review: Like all of Mel's work there are moments of brilliant absurdity and cycles of too much plot. But all in all - it is Mel at his best if you take it by speific sequences, and not judge the entire film.

Summary: History of the World part I
Review: This was a very funny movie and I hope Mel Brooks makes a sequel, that given present day new digital technology and computer graphics and gizmos I am sure it will more funny than the first one, so Mr. Brooks go for it

Summary: If this is history, I don't like it
Review: History of the World, Part I is, at best, an okay movie. At its worst it is a sexist homophobic piece of junk. It goes on for too long and half the stuff is so offensive you just can't laugh it off. Some of it is funny, and you think it might get better, but then Brooks brings it back down with his unfunny humor. You want good Brooks? See "The Producers," "Young Frankenstein," and "High Anxiety." But stay away from this one

Summary: FANTASTIC
Review: Everybody had explained how great this movie is and they are right, my only compail is that Mel Brook never made the second part, PLEASE MR. BROOKS MAKE IT. =)

Summary: It's Good to be the King
Review: This is a film filled with blatant sexual humour, across the board discrimination and bodily fluid humor. It sounds like the latest film from the creators of SOUTH PARK but, its over twenty years old and from the mind of comic genius Mel Brooks. This film is not as inspired as THE PRODUCERS or the brilliant YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN but, it can be an easy laugh if you can through all your inhibitions aside for an hour and a half. Like Woody Allen's EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX*, HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART I is a series of vignettes: First the Dawn of Man, Then we visit Cavemen headed by Sid Caesar. Moses receiveing the 15... errr 10 commandments. Next, off to Caesar's Rome, The Spanish Inquisition, and Finally, the French Revolution. The majority of the film is spent in the company of Dom Deluise's hysterical Caesar and Brooks own King Louis. But, the most focused element in this film would have to be THE SPANISH INQUISITION, done as a huge musical number sung by Torquemada. There are great laughs scattered about but often times they are separated by cheap humor. The visual effects painting by Albert Whitlock are brilliant for the time adding infinite production value. The DVD contains mono audio and very little in the way of extras except it offers 2 separate menu screens, One featuring Dom Deluise and the other with Mel on a coin. Check out the COMING ATTRACTIONS at the end! And remember, It's Good to be the King.

Summary: Very Funny
Review: This is the type of movie that can be watched over and over. I have seen this several times and still makes me laugh out loud. My favorite sceen is the last supper with Mel Brooks as the waiter. Great purchase.
