Rating: Summary: Alright, Saving Private Ryan It Isn't... Review: Yes, yes. I know that this isn't exactly Tom Hanks at his Academy Award-winning best. However, this under-rated, oft- maligned film from the mid-eighties is very, very funny. Tom Hanks plays the everyman attempting (mostly in vain) to redo his dream home in this somewhat predictable comedy. As expected, anything and everything goes wrong- from projectile turkeys to falling bathtubs, the jokes come fast and furious once the inevitable setup drags along. Shelly Long is actually tolerable in this film as Hanks' fiancee, and look for a wonderful performance by Alexander Godunov (Die Hard), as Long's former love interest. If you're looking for a good old-fashioned laugh more along the lines of The 'Burbs than Big, then give this one a shot. The scene of Hanks trapped in the floor and screaming about Care Bears is worth the price of admission alone.
Rating: Summary: Where's the DVD??????????? Review: This is a very funny movie. A must see since Tom Hanks has pretty much left the comedy rolls behind, and lets not forget that this is also produced by Spielberg. What's holding up the DVD release? My VHS is wearing out....I love the Bath scene!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Hysterical Review: I don't understand why anyone would not like this movie! This movie is one of only a couple of movies that still makes me laugh hysterically every time I see it. One of the funniest parts is when Tom Hanks goes out to the trees and decides to carve his & Shelley Long's initials into one of them, only to have the entire area collapse around him. Then, when he comes in to tell her that they "have very weak trees," the funniest sound effect of the burnt-out doorbell is heard. I am laughing very hard just writing this review thinking about it. This movie is fabulous, and I wouldrecommend it to anyone who likes a good belly laugh every now & then.
Rating: Summary: Simply Hilarious Review: This movie is flat out funny with a very good set-up for the destruction slapstick and witty dialouge. tom Hanks and Shelly long are a couple who are evicted from their apartment and buy a house that values at 1 milllion dollars but they get it for two-hundred thousand. They thought they were getting a deal but what they got is a cheap imatation for a house. Hanks and long try to keep their relationship in one piece while the house is steadily crumbling into a million. Anybody who has knowledge of owning a house or knows what it is like to be in love, you should find this movie to be a riot.
Rating: Summary: The horrors of remodling Review: Tom Hanks and Shelley Long star as lovers remodling a big, broken-down old house. Tom is a lawyer; Shelley is a musician who was previously involved with the very funny conductor Alexander Godunov. The inevitable horrors of remodling are played for laughs with lots of slapstick comedy. The stars are delightful together and the script is witty. If you've ever remodled a house, or been in love, you'll enjoy this film!
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest movies ever.... Review: I can't think of another movie that makes me laugh so hard. All you have to do is watch it once and realize why Tom Hanks is such a great comedic actor. One of the funniest scenes is when he gets trapped in a rug that falls through the floor. After hours alone stuck in the rug, he makes money airplanes from the contents of his wallet while he waits for Shelley Long to come home. We pee in our pants every time it's on. We love this movie Our big question is--WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE AVAILABLE ON DVD??
Rating: Summary: A very funny movie Review: Tom Hanks, the yuppie lawyer, Shelley Long, the professional violist, Alexander Goudonov, the conceited, self-centered conductor (with a "problem with George Szell"), and a real estate disaster on the hoof. This is a marvelous little comedy whose combination of character stereotypes and slapstick is just right. The classical musicians in the audience will recognize and appreciate a whole range on "in" jokes that clearly relate to the culture of the symphony orchestra musician. Enjoy! But when, oh when, will this little gem become available on DVD???
Rating: Summary: This Early Tom Hanks movie should be on DVD! Review: I agree this movie is great and should definitely be put on DVD, I don't know why it's not available on DVD, it can't be because the critics panned it and it wasn't a box office smash because there are lots of movies that were critically panned and weren't big box office hits that are available on DVD and when I think of some of the garbage that is available on DVD I just find it a little frustrating that this and some otther nice deserving movies aren't on DVD!
Rating: Summary: Where's the DVD? Review: This is a certain "cult" classic that will have you splitting your sides laughing. I just wish it would come out on DVD. A must for anyone who has renovated a home.
Rating: Summary: don't believe the critics Review: i did'nt see this movie until several years after it's release and consequently missed all the "professional critics" reviews. i am glad, otherwise i might have missed the funniest movie i have ever seen. tom hanks was awesome in his portrayal of a man sucked into a never ending nightmare with one diaster after another. his reactions as the situation worsens had me rolling on the floor laughing my head off. while the critics may think it poorly directed/acted, having no redeeming social value or deeper meaning, it is a truly entertaining film-watch it on a gray day and it will brighten your whole day. i hope they release it on dvd so i can definitely add it to my collection!!!
