Summary: Lead male is all wrong
Review: This movie wasn't as terrible as one reviewer made it sound. It is cliched, soft, predictable and mushy -- but so are most romantic comedies. I mean -- this isn't Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas in "The English Patient." Heck -- it isn't even Tom Cruise and Rene Zelwegger in "Jerry McGuire." And to look for deep love in "Chasing Liberty" is just plain silly. That being said -- the reviewer is right about one thing: The chemistry is not here. No Bogey and Bogart, no Peck and Hepburn ... zilch, nada. The actors are acting to and at each other but not WITH each other. I can at least deal with Mandy Moore -- though her acting in this movie is not as good and lovable as in her other movies. (She was starting to annoy rather than win my heart in this one.) BUT Matthew Goode is just plain awful. His lines are weak and his dialogue and acting lacking any real thrust or at least semblance of emotion. Of course -- working across from Mandy Moore could make a guy a little "less himself" during shoots. But that's no excuse. Simply -- the cast director picked the wrong guy. (Hell -- it's enough that we have to imagine Mark Harmon as the President of the United States.)

Summary: Nothing new, nothing wrong
Review: Yeah, granted it does nothing new, but I liked it a lot. But then again I am biased towards Mandy. She makes good movies that are entertaining. It may not compare with A Walk to Remember, but that's ok. I recommend it.

Summary: Three words, boring boring boring!
Review: If you want to watch a bad movie, this is it! Every step in the movie is predictible, the actors are miscast, and there is no chemistry between the two lovebirds. Mandy Moore and Matthew Goode act next to each other not with each other. The scenes are superficial, there is no underlying story; this movie is a collection of stereotype love scenes that appaeread in previous movies. Bad all the way!

Summary: Eluding the Feds, and having fun doing it!
Review: "Chasing Liberty" is most likely to become a certifiable "sleeper" hit at the box office. James Foster, President Of The United States (Mark Harmon), has his hands full, trying to run a nation of almost 270 million people, while attempting to keep tabs on his daughter's personal and social life at the same time. Anna Foster (Mandy Moore) wants to experience a normal, everyday existence, but has great difficulty in escaping the Svengali-like hold her father and his staff of Secret Service personnel have on her (which would be considered tame even by Communist standards!). In order to keep track of her daughter's "escape attempts", President Foster (in addition to his SS staff) hires outside informants, two of which are an older man and a woman, with the other being a reserved, handsome British gentleman (Matthew Goode). Young agent Ben Calder ends up chasing Anna all across Europe - from Prague, to Venice, to Berlin, and Calder will do anything to keep the President's daughter within close range, attempting to keep her out of harm's way as a result. Will Cupid's arrow work its own little array of magic on this truly charming "couple" as well? The virtual potpourri of picture postcard scenarios makes "Chasing Liberty" a colossal picture worth checking out, as well as for the film's display of a solid cast (which includes Martin Hancock's jubilant and tactful performance as a cockneyed English tourist, armed with a charismatic wit, including a batch of Steve "The Six Million Dollar Man" Austin sticker decals (as monetary currency?!!? [move over, Euro, 'cause there's a new "bionic" form of money invading the continent!]). With an intoxicating aroma and aftertaste, along with a bubbling exuberance of drama and comedy that just won't quit, "Chasing Liberty" is one picture that's sure to leave a wide, gargantuan smile on a lot of faces, as well as turn a lot of heads at the box office. Reserve your ticket to adventure and excitement at your local theater (or soon on video and DVD) today...and don't forget to bring your passport (and your "significant other")!

Summary: Worth at least the price of a matinee
Review: I actually saw this movie twice, once because I had to view it and once because my sister didn't want to go alone. While the movie is simple, light-hearted and never controversial, the viewing experience was different each time. Upon first viewing it, I left the movie theater ultimately unaffected. The movie was cute...pleasant...non-affecting. I went home, wrote the review and essentially forgot about the film altogether. What I thought the film did was please a large crowd of teenagers and soccermoms who wanted a night out, free of the trappings of modern cinema. Matthew Goode is also mesmerizing. He has an obvious presence and amidst some robotic acting, he was the most natural presence in the movie. Again...this film, upon first viewing, was a throwaway--nowhere near as bad as a large amount of crap that is sweeping the nation's theaters, but not good enough to warrant any accolades.

Upon second viewing, I noticed more of the flaws...the awkward acting, the forced plot and the stock mold for romantic comedies, utilized all too often in Hollywood cinema. Technically, the viewing experience was not as pleasing. However, Matthew Goode was still mesmerizing. 90 minutes is a small tithe to pay to the gods of cinema when Mr. Goode lent to the beauty of the film, as did the frollicking through Europe...some beautiful cinematography. And, despite the more noticeable flaws, I left the theater the second time feel some of those warm fuzzies. The movie was in fact endearing and, especially for teens, this movie was 90 minutes free of profanity, vulgarity and much of the vices with which modern teen/young adult films are often riddled.

Summary: Really great movie
Review: "Chasing Liberty" is romance and comedy. It is about a girl named Anna, played by Mandy Moore, who is the president's daughter. Anna is played by actress Mandy Moore. She is never alone because there are always FBI agents around her. She can't even have a date without agents everywhere. Then she and her family go to Prague, Poland. She meets this guy named Ben and she runs away with him. Ben is played by actor Matthew Goode. She didn't really want him to come, but he does. Ben is really an agent protecting her from danger. Anna does these really crazy things. Ben goes with her wherever she goes. He doesn't know it, but he is starting to fall in love with her. All Anna is trying to do is have some fun and get away from her parents and responsibilities. This movie is rated PG-13. It came out on January 9th, 2004. It is a really cool movie. It is romance and comedy. "Chasing Liberty" is one of the best movies that have come out. You should definitely go and see it.

Summary: Better Than You Might Expect
Review: SUNDAY, JANUARY 11, 2004--Trust me when I say no one is more surprised than I am that an actress actually churning out top-shelf teen flicks is none other than Mandy Moore. The girl has charm and so do most of her films, including this cute little flick about the cooped-up teenage daughter (Moore) of a busy U.S. President (the always charming Mark Harmon). When the girl finally sees her chance to escape the watch of the secret service--while at a concert in some foreign country--she happens upon a mysterious stranger (engaging newcomer Matthew Goode) and an adventure of self-discovery. Wow, it just felt like I wrote the official synopsis. Really, though, this an agreeable piece of fluff, that stays entertaining thanks to more than a few genuinely funny moments, a few sweet scenes of puppy love, a cleverer than expected score, and most of all, Jeremy Piven and Annabella Sciorra as spatting, flirtatious secret service agents. It ain't Shakespeare, but it's fun.

Summary: A Chase Worth Watching
Review: I went to watch this movie with no hopes of a great turn out from what I had heard. I love "A Walk to Remember" so I was dying to see "Chasing Liberty", I think Mandy Moore is a good actress. The movie was really cute, it kept you going and interested throughout the entire movie. It was quickly paced and very enjoyable and romantic. They couldn't have picked two better people to play the main characters- Anna & Ben. Definitely a movie I'm going to buy!

Summary: Dreams Become Reality In Chasing Liberty
Review: I really liked this movie. It was excellent. I liked the storyline, the cast especially, and the scenery.

It is every girls dream to backpack through europe with a great looking guy and end up falling in love with them and vice versa. But it never actually happens in real life, does it?
This movie is good because it draws you in to that dream and lets you live it through Anna and Ben. It also gives you the dream of life isn't over as soon as you think it is and there are always possibilities in it. The relationship between the two agents is cute and even though it is uneeded it adds so much more to the film by beeing there. Jeremy Piven is the ideal character. He's perfect for that role. He's funny and serious all at the same time. I've liked him from the very first time I saw him on Ellen's show. He's a wonderful actor.
Matthew Goode is my FAVORITE in this film, as I'm sure he's everyone's favorite because, let's face it, he's Gorgeous, but he's more than that. He is overall perfect for that role. He's got the sexy accent, the bad boy image and the no strings attached kind of thing going on. But he's the kind of man you would want to hang on to, the kind of man you'd probably want to tie up in your house and never want to leave. I just fell in love with him in this movie. He's going to have no problem finding a girlfriend now that he's in the public eye. I just wish there were people that lived in small towns in Ontario, Canada that looked that good and seemed so down to earth and REAL.
I wish I could have my own version of Matthew Goode for myself, he's that yummy.
I gave this movie 5 stars because it deserves it.
