Summary: The last Blue Meanie (Paul Angelis) was seen in 1968.
Review: In my case that was 1969. That's when I saw this in a double billing with Barbarella (1968) [...] at West Point, NY. I am not sure that this movie has any redeeming social value. However the music is great and it brings back a part of history. Instead of buying the soundtrack, buy the movie and you have them both. I guess I Will have to buy it also to hear "Hey, Bulldog!" I hope it fits in with the time period. And now it is time for a whole new generation to enjoy.

Review: It's the Beatles, there's really no more to say. If you suffer from Beatlemania, you'll have to have this, and if you have kids it's a great buy, too, with all the songs and colorful animation to entertain them.

Boob, Ph.D. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and Hey Bulldog are also wonderful. I often catch myself singing the title song or one of the listed songs.

Summary: Glovey, lovey...
Review: I don't know how it is I didn't see this until I was 25, and the movie was older than I was, but I finally did see it and I loved it, especially Glovey. This is one of the best animated movies ever and needless to say, has the best soundtrack. Fabulously entertaining and funny and witty. Wonderful.

Summary: Dolby 5.1 is awesome!
Review: As an aging baby-boomer, I had two major reactions: #1 We were really innocent back then. #2 Dolby 5.1 is absolutely the greatest! Since I'm new to DVD, you can only imagine how impressive it is for me to hear these classic tunes in 5.1!
Question: Are there *any* other sources of DVD audio that has remastered versions of old Beatle tunes in the new 5.1? Please e-mail me. (You've got to understand that I can still remember two distinct versions of the first 'Meet The Beatles' album: one was in MONO, and the other was in "Electronically Remastered STEREO') How things have changed.

Anyway, about YELLOW SUBMARINE. It is a great Beatles movie. I love the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The sound is so precise, moving exactly as the submarine moves, from the right speaker to the left as the submarine moves to the left, and from the left to the right as it moves right, etc. The movie soundtrack album is great, too. The backing vocals on "Baby You're a Rich Man" ("How does it feel to be...") are significantly louder and more audible than on the "Magical Mystery Tour" CD. The colors are very bright and distinct, and the songs are clear and sharp. All in all, this DVD makes a world of difference from the VHS 1968 edition. It doesn't include the intro of "Baby You're a Rich Man" as the VHS does, (The Beatles begin singing it after they rescue Sgt. Pepper's band from the glass bubble), but it does include the "Hey Bulldog" sequence that the original left out.
Don't rent this DVD, buy it. It is well worth the investment! LONG LIVE THE BEATLES!

Summary: Even those who don't like The Beatles would love this movie!
Review: I've always loved The Beatles to begin with, but this was immidiately one of my favorites. Deep withen the Sea of Green lyes Pepperland, a peaceful and wonderful land. But one fateful day, they are attacked by the dreaded Blue Meanies and their dread Glove! So, Young Fred, (whom many believe to be the one and only Sargent Pepper), must go out to find music to bring the people of Pepperland back from stone. Fred finds The Beatles, and here the humor begins. They go through the Sea of Monsters, Time, Science, and Holes, singing songs and making michief all the way. I highly recommend this movie to anyone, even those who don't like The Beatles. It's a great family movie.

Summary: A Delightful Mind-twisting Trip!!!
Review: I remember watching this movie as a child. There are so many visual surprises in this movie. There is a dark undercurrent to this movie that makes a deep mark on the mind. The images and music follow you to adulthood. I just watched it for the first time again after so many years. Now that I am older and have a greater respect for the Beatles and a better understanding of their music, it is just as potent now as it was the first time. This movie is highly recommended to those interested in the artistry of traditional animation. It is quite amazing the range of feelings one gets out of this movie. Watch it! You'll love it!

Summary: Not very good at all
Review: I consider myself a big fan of the Beatles and own most of their stuff in some shape or form. I consider A Hard Day's Night to be cinema masterpiece. However, I conisder this toss off to be the sorriest product that the Beatles ever were associated with. Their involvement was in reality very minimal (it's not their voices, but rather a bunch of creepy guys who sound nothing like any of the four Beatles). They tacked on four new songs to what is in reality a music video of their greatest hits of the middle period (66-68). My personal "new" favorites are Hey Bulldog and Its All Too Much. That said, in between the videos for the songs, this movie makes no sense and I can't imagine children watching it (but then kids will pretty much watch anything). Except when the songs are playing, the animation pretty much looks like grade B Hanna Barbara stuff. (its funny because, in the new booklet, they gush over the design and animation like it should be shown in an art musuem!) I watched this with a few friends late one night. Some of us enjoyed substances used heavily in 1968. It put one guy to sleep, and the rest of us just kind of zoned out between the tunes. The droll, aren't we cool voices are so lame you quit paying attention almost imediately.

Take it from me: At least rent this from the vid store before considering giving almost thirty bucks of your hard earned money to a group that doesn't really need it. It'll probably end up in the pockets of Michael Jackson anyway!!
