Summary: Greatest movie on EARTH!!!!
Review: This movie is so wonderful ,the first time I saw it I fell in love with! The way they make fun of the cold war could not of been done by anyone but Stanley Kubrick (may he rest in peace). the ending is the greatest out of any movie. I can still here the words that are said during the bombs go off "We'll meet again, don't know where ,don't know when...." A classic film great for any libray of films

Summary: Stanley Kubrick Makes fun of the end of the world.
Review: "You can't fight in here, this is the war room!" Enough said. Mr. Kubrick, you will be missed!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Kubrick proves himself the definetive film director
Review: In response to the reviewer who gave this movie 2 stars on December 6, 1998, I have to say, your a moron. Dr. Stranglove should be appreciated for the movie, and the movie alone. Not the "special features" it left out. This movie is one of the funniest ever made. Kubrick once again proves that he is the greatest living film maker. This movie will have anybody who can understand it laughing at George C. Scott's incredible performance one moment, and pondering its dramatic social commentary the next. Aside from its sharp tongued dialogue, this movie explores the abillity and maturity of the leaders we put in charge. A classic in the greatest sense of the word.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Superior Filmmaking
Review: In my opinion, this is the 2nd greatest film of all time(behind "Citizen Kane"). Countless memorable moments make this DVD well worth watching. Favorite Quote: Mr. President, we must not allow a mine shaft gap!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A history nut's love affair with the bomb.
Review: I was always a lover of history and the Cold War has always fascinated as to the behavior of our government if one of our own leaders fired first. Peter Sellers is the best! Everyone of his charcters were memorable. From Mandrake to Dr. Strangelove. General Turgeson was the best!

Summary: We must save our precious bodily fluids
Review: Classic. If you are a serious movie watcher and enjoy the best in dialogue, comedy, drama, and thought provoking concepts put this one at the top of your list. Too many memorable scenes to name any in particular, but watching Slim ride the bomb is symbolic of our reliance on distructive technology. Jack D. Rippers plight to save the bodily fluids reminds us how mundane our pursuits may appear to others but consumming to ourselves.

Summary: Reminder to Reviewees
Review: Have people forgotten that the purpose of the widescreen format is to allow us to see the movie in its entirety (as opposed to pan and scan)? I've seen so many comments complaining about a film lacking the widescreen format, such as this film. The fact is it was filmed in a multi-aspect ratio which changes throughout the film. I'd assume that movie fanatics would rather see a film as the director intended rather than a particular format.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great Movie, Good transfer, weak content
Review: This movie is great. Worthy of adding to your library. No more needs to be said on that.

What this edition lacks is two things: 1. the massive amount of bonus material that is available on the LaserDisc transfer; 2. the additional audio tracks.

The transfer is consistent. Unlike a fellow reviewer, who is obviously unaware of the history of the aspect ratio, I find the transfer to be ok.

The aspect ratio changes througout the movie, all be it very slightly, due to the fact the Stanley used three different cameras when filming. The only way to notice this, is if you pay close attention to the bottom portion of your screen, at certian points there will be a bar at other points the aspect ratio is actually "full screen". Off the top of me head I cannot remember a specific example, however the careful viewer will notice.

Summary: Appalling conversion of a classic
Review: Columbia Tristar should be ashamed of themselves. They have managed to tarnish a classic movie by giving the most lacklustre, threadbare, and just plain lousy DVD conversions I have yet to see.

I therefore do not concure with other reviewers who have given this DVD 5 stars and here are my reasons why:

1. The box says "deluxe widescreen edition" when in fact it is 4:3 most of the time.

2. Image quality starts off quite well but plummets about 30 minutes into the movie, most noticeably in the scenes between Mandrake and Ripper. The image becomes so badly pixelated that it becomes almost unwatchable.

3. Zero special features. That's right _nothing_, unless you count a chapter list as a feature.

4. A promotional advert is tacked onto the front of the movie.

5. No English or French subtitles - only Spanish!

In short, the movie is great but the conversion is rotten.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great movie, no bonuses
Review: Dr. Strangelove is definately a classic movie everyone should see. From General Jack D. Ripper's ramblings about "precious bodily fluids" to President Merkin Muffley's conversation with a drunk russian premier to Strangelove's pesky right arm, this is one film that will make a million and one modern-day references make sense.

I must complain, however, about the DVD itself. While the picture and sound are great (considering the sound is mono, and the movie was made in 1964), there is no wide-screen mode, and no bonuses whatsoever. Except for a few subtitles, this DVD is a complete waste of space. Boo! I would loved to have seen the original ending, which was a pie-fight in the war room.
