Summary: Sara Gilbert & Drew Barrymore Shine...
Review: I rented this movie mainly 'cos I was looking for some Drew Barrymore films. Somehow, I found this one in the drama section. I thought I'd like it, and I was right. This movie first starts off with Sylvie writing about 'Ivy' in her journal. Sylvie wishes they could be friends, because she doesn't have any friend. So Ivy & Sylvie become friends, and Ivy begins basically living with Sylvie and her family. Sylvie's mom is really sick, and throughout the entire movie, you can tell Ivy is trying to take the mother's place. Ivy obviously didn't have anyone that cared about her, and she wanted to be in a family really bad. If I tell you anymore, it'll ruin the movie. In my opinion, the movie was great, and Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert made it a very great film. They really know how to act! So if you're looking for a good movie or two to watch & you found this one somehow on this site, rent it or buy it, because it is a great movie if you like Drew or Sara. Hope you enjoy it. =)

Summary: Is Drew worth an ocean of calamine lotion?
Review: This is primarily a vehicle to exploit the generalized sensuality of Miss Drew Barrymore, an excellent actress and heir of a great acting family. Drew, who was so cuddily in E.T. when she was six years old or so, is now oh so cuddily and then some to a more varied audience. Here, as a scheming little poor girl, she seduces dad, mom and daughter (in psychologically different ways) before slipping into murder. She is sexy, trashy and very pretty.

Sara Gilbert (from TV's "Rosanne") plays the dweeby poor little rich girl daughter with veracity and some wit. Tom Skerrit is the father without a clue; and Cheryl Ladd, looking rather fetching despite the role, is the dreary mother. Yes, old TV stars can find work! Best scene is when Sara and Drew go to the tattoo parlor. Drew makes a few ugly remarks causing Sara to get up to leave, but Drew draws her back tenderly (to pay the tab), pulls her close, and kisses her. When the beer-bellied tattoo guy tries to join in, the girls give him an "ugh!" and split.

The slow-motion seduction of Skerrit seems a little drawn out. Even after Drew kisses and licks his cut hand, Skerrit just looks off into space in befuddlement. Later things heat up though, and then take a kinky turn when Mom, through a drug and alcohol haze, dimly notices Drew wearing her sexy dress and doing some love numbers on her husband.

Second best scene is after the funeral with Drew sleeping in Cheryl Ladd's bed where she is discovered by Sara. Drew urges her friend, the distraught daughter, to join her. "Pretend I'm your mother," Drew says. As they lie in bed, Sara confides to Drew that what she couldn't say to her mother was "I love you." Drew kisses her head and holds her close.

What was intended here was a psychological study of a teenaged girl without much of a home or much of a family who is drawn to adopt her own family among those of her friends, and in doing so assumes the role of the mother in toto. What we get is a semi-pornographic focus on a very sexy screen darling, a ridiculous murder, and an even more ridiculous finale, the details of which you might want to see for yourself.

Summary: Purely vampy
Review: ...Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert heat up the screen in this vampy homoerotic thriller. Drew Barrymore plays the Lolita-esque Ivy, who will apparently stop at nothing to .... well, it's not that clear what Ivy wants exactly, only that she's willing to seduce quite a few people to get it. The plot is not this film's best asset, but who cares? Not most fans of this film, who are perfectly content to watch the talented and sexy Drew Barrymore in this most unlikely come-back role.

Summary: A Coup D'Etat for Katt Shea Ruben and Drew Barrymore!
Review: Multi-talented, but heretofore little-known, director Katt Shea Ruben scored a brilliant, sudden and unusually highly successful stroke of genius in this highly erotic thriller about an under-privileged girl, newly admitted to a posh private school. Drew Barrymore brilliantly portrays Ivy, a sexy, street-wise and lethal Lolita that will do anything to fit in. Sara Gilbert portrays Cooper, a rich, smart, but misunderstood young feminist in search and need of a friend. Through Cooper, Ivy is ushered into a privileged world, and is instantly intrigued. Cooper's father (Tom Skerritt) is a handsome TV newscaster; her mother (Cheryl Ladd) is a beautiful Beverly Hills wife. Yet tensions in the home run deep, providing license for malice that Ivy is quick to seize. With one quick seduction, Ivy sets off a chain reaction that makes 'Poison Ivy' one of the most provocative and erotic films, of the erotic thriller genre, filmed to date. If you somehow missed this gem, give it a look soon. It is one of those very rare films you can enjoy again and again! Excellent!

Summary: A Hypnotic, Sensually Charged Film.
Review: Poison Ivy is one of those films that can grab you in the opening scene when you see Drew Barrymore swinging on a rope and Melissa Gilbert talking about their relationship together, friends that is. Although alot of people might not enjoy this film, with all the sex and the content of the film, but it is interesting to watch to see just what lengths Drew Barrymore will go to. In this film Drew Barrymore gets taken in by her new best friend, and then things go awire. Her sexual manners seduces the father, and while she is getting to the father, she is moving on the wife as her daughter who understands her life-threatening condition. Her friend doesn't trust Ivy after awhile, so Drew Barrymore(ivy) decides to take matters into her own hands in a tense and manner of seeking revenge to move into the family to become loved by all. This movie may not appeal to alot of people, but it was very good in my mind, because Drew Barrymore is my fav. actress since I was seven. But besides that, if you want to check it out, it will not be disappointing to view, but if it is, I appologize for writing something that says it is a great movie in my mind and not to the viewer.

Summary: a word of advice
Review: watch poison ivy 1 & 2 but skip the new seduction. trust me, you'll thank me later. of all the erotic thrillers in the nineties, poison ivy comes off clean as one of the most original & well-made of the entire genre. surely there have been many imitiations of poison ivy but none hold up quite so well after nearly 12 years unfortunately as the one which started thegreat trend. who is ivy? is she a very lonely girl whose never had much of a life & simply desires the friendship of another rebellious young girl? or is she a greedy, evil snake in the grass? perhaps both? i'll have to admit it's hard to know exactly how to feel when you first watch this film & even harder to completely hate the character of ivy despite the evil things she does. drew barrymore gives a slick, seductive performance which is only rivaled by her companion coop(played by sara gilbert) & matched through the brilliant performance of verteran actor tom skerrit(who plays coops father). poison ivy, is suspenseful, sad, & often sensual although never really reaches the level of a softcore film like the rating might suggest. there are 2-3 implied sex scenes which may be considered objectionable for viewers under the age of 16. parents may wish to either view this film with their younger children or to screen it first before allowing for mixed family viewing. if you've seen poison ivy & loved it, go ahead & try the sequel which has alyssa milano. the 2nd poison ivy is quite good too although the first one is still the classic. go out & get your copy of poison ivy today on dvd & vote for me!! forget the tnt televsion edit & pick up the new line cinema dvd.

Summary: NOT A MASTERPIECE !
Review: Why do you want to watch this movie ? To see the legs and bottom of Drew Barrymore or because you want to have a great time watching your TV ? If it's for the second solution, just for get it ! For all Drew fans, go for it. She's young, she is sexy, and well it's maybe enough. The acting is not bad. The curiosity is Cheryl Ladd was the Charlie's Angels Blondie for quite a longtime and everybody knows who Drew became these recent years ;) About the movie, well Not much to say and it's the major problem to it.It will look like the movie is damn too long ! Sara Gilbert (the little daughter of Roseanne if you remember) is great.

Summary: i can't give this more
Review: i only watched 15 - 20 minutes and i hated this movie with a passion. not even for Drew Berrymore fans.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Typical B movie, well acted but stupid plot
Review: Don't watch it for the plot. Overall, there is little characterization other than the two main actresses. If you're lookign for an erotic movie, there is too much violence and not enough sex. Its true, Sara Gilbert and Drew Barrymore act well in this, and if you are a Drew fan this may be worth watching. I saw the rated version of this.
