Summary: Cult classic
Review: "Head" remains, without a doubt, the strangest movie I have ever seen. I was aware, before viewing, of the fact that this was not at all like a Monkees TV show episode, and that the Monkees were trying to branch out on their own and do something artistic and outside of their image, a bit like "Magical Mystery Tour." I was still unprepared for the utter bizareness of this. Necessarily, it is a mixed bag. There are some good songs, some brilliant sequences (particularly the Jones black and white, white and black dance scene) and some wild creative fun. But overall this is a busy film that may leave one feeling at a loss, if not a bit sick; not because the film is gross or anything, just because it is so rapid-fire pointless.

Summary: Can now be assuredly be hailed as a classic
Review: A classy one-of-a-kind psychedelic masterpiece which makes the original TV series look like the infantile nonsense it really was (hasn't it dated badly?). The soundtrack's wonderful (great songs by Goffin/King and Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith leading the group through a live "Circle Sky"), the 1000-films-rolled-into-one style is thoroughly engaging, as is the cyclical end-as-beginning story (can't really say 'plot'!). Full marks to all involved. If you're a fan of 60s culture, check this out!

Summary: I can dig it!
Review: I am 21 years old. My mother raised me with the monkees music and tv shows. I did not see this movie until 2 years ago. I was impressed. And so should everyone else be that called them a "fake" band and so on. The talent is remarkable, as well as the direction and the writing. This film involves all of the angst and emotion of their personal lives as well as the sign of the times. They were trying to find love and peace in a world ridden with war. At the time they were so passionate about their beliefs, as well as with trying to strip off the stereotypes that people put on them by thinking that they weren't original or by comparing them to the Beatles (with whom they were friends with and hung out with on a regular basis). Everyone will have a different opinion after watching this movie. My opinion is that it is thoroughly enjoyable and an absolute shame to never see. There are so many different scenes and wonderful actors and great music! I think I am going to watch it again right now. Oh, and remember:Nobody ever lends money to a man with a sense of humor.

Summary: The Real Monkees
Review: If you have only watched their show, or heard the bubble gum lyrics, then you may not be fully prepared to face the movie "Head". Although it does keep with what and who the image of what the Monkees was, they were trying very hard to make a new image, but it is more like a picture of the inner soul of the phenomenon that were over-looked. The movie shows us that, despite the show, each of the Monkees has an increduble amount of talent, and each a personality all their own, as is with the incredible and many talents of Peter Tork. He not only could play the instruments, but he could play instruments that we'd never even hear him play! Two of the best songs from the movie are his, and, altogether, the scheme of the entire movie makes one wonder why it never hit it big in the sixties. For anyone who lived the sixgties, the many messages portrayed in this movie; jumping off a bridge, searching for meaning in understanding, and just having the most fun that you can poosibly have while you're still yourself; will definitally hit home.

Summary: WARNING! Not For Kids!
Review: There is a scene of a man being executed by pistol (yes for real). How this film got a "G" rating in inconprehensable. Shame on the producers for not updating the rating to at least "PG".

Summary: NOT FOR THE LIGHT HEARTED MONKEE LOVER
Review: The first time I wathced the Monkees movie; HEAD it was all a bit overwhelming. It is definately not for the light hearted Monkees lover. It shows a deeper introspective side of the Monkees and needs to be really concentrated on to be able to get all of the messages trying to be portrayed in the film.

Summary: HEAD IS ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME MOVIES OF ALL TIMES!
Review: HEAD is a great movie. The Monkees are a lot different in this movie than they are on their tv show. They worked hard and this movie ended up being a box-office disaster. The Monkees did not get the respect they deserved for this movie. If you mention this movie to the average person, even Monkees fans of today, will have no idea that HEAD even exists as a movie. This movie has a great supporting cast, including the late Victor Mature, former heavyweight champion Sonny Liston, and Teri Garr. This movie shows how the Monkees struggle with being world famous and how Peter is frustrated with the group, which eventually came true. Peter quit after this movie was released in 1968. I would reccomend this movie to adults who grew up with the Monkees as children and would like to see them with more adult appeal. I hope this movie will be re-released in theaters in the near future. That would be so awesome. All in all, this movie earns five stars.

Summary: Simply Unbelieveable
Review: This movie is not one for the casual Monkees fan, and definately NOT for anyone who is fond of their early period "bubblegum" pop. It's a heavily psychadelic look at the Monkees' origins, the problems they had, and of their personal characters. It is revoloutionary both now, and back in '68 for a number of reasons (first film to use colour solorization techniques, first English speaking film to be shown in "Le cinema verite" latin cinema...). It's a great film, with truly killer music, and should be respected as such. Do not simply disregard it as a 90 minuite Monkee episode!

Review: This film brought my fascination and appreciation for the Monkees up about 10 levels.

Summary: The best cult movie ever made
Review: Well ok, perhaps "best" is a bit much, but certainly one of the coolest. What makes this DVD so special is the TV trailers and movie ads for the film, including one from Portigue (spelling)? The trailers, 8 minutes of them, make this a must have for any fan of wierd movies. Sadly the picture is not letterbox and the sound is not what it could be, but hey, what are you going to do? For my full review of this film go to the Monkees section and look up the soundtrack for this fine film.
