Summary: Avoid COBY! Unless You Want a Defective Product...
Review: A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a COBY DVD-215 Progressive Scan DVD player. The store I bought it from offered a $20 rebate, bringing the total cost down to $19. Great deal, right?

As soon as I took this stinkin' thing out of the box and hooked it up, I noticed that the buttons on both the DVD player AND the remote were unresponsive. You had to press the buttons many times to get the thing to do what you wanted it to do.

Next came the fun of playing a DVD and watching it skip, pause, freeze, and hearing the sound go out all over the place. I tried another DVD. Same thing. And another. Same thing. I pressed "eject" on the unit several times, and the DVD didn't want to come out. Finally (thankfully) it did.

Aside from the defectiveness of the product, I was annoyed that you cannot use the remote to turn on the unit. You have to press the button on the unit itself. Also, the TV/Video switch had to be turned on on the TV itself.

I am convinced (and very angry) that COBY knowingly sold me a defective DVD player. Luckily I was able to return it - some are not as fortunate and are stuck with a DVD player they can't even use.

My advice - STAY AWAY FROM COBY!!

Summary: Junk
Review: Bought one of these four days ago.
Plugged in according to manual.
Loaded DVD. Music and picture but no voices.
Selected "Audio" to attempt to get voices.
Picture and all sound went away for good.
Operation restricted to opening and closing drawer, watching display. No output.
Returned to store for refund.
Don't buy one of these.
It's a really small neat looking piece of junk.

Summary: VGA output has a defect
Review: I bought two of these soley for its VGA output, a very unusual feature among DVD players.

Unfortunately, both exhibited the same flaw: with around half my DVD collection, 20 bright white lines would gradually cycle on and then off in the upper-left portion of my monitor. These DVDs would cause no problems in any other player, and the monitor doesn't show difficulties with other VGA output--so I'm confident it's the Coby's fault.

If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd very much appreciate info at Coby@customres.sent.com. If I can't fix them soon, they're going back...will update with another review if I manage to fix them.

Summary: Coby 515 Pal/NTSC DVD Player
Review: I live on the Monterey Peninsula in California USA. I purchased this DVD Player so I can watch Pal region 2 German Movies.
I have no problems whatsoever with sound Quality or picture Quality...
In fact I think the picture Quality is awesome. Even better than my expensive DVD Player.. (Panasonic) I also like the fact that Coby has a great Customer Service Staff that is readily available to assist anyone who encounters problems. I use my 515 Player with the Coby 915 Home Theater System.. Together they make a great Home Theater that has great picture Quality and Sound Quality.

Using the remote is very easy and setup for Audio and Pal was also very easy. I would recommend this DVD Player to anyone looking for an inexpensive way to watch both Pal Movies Region 2 and also NTSC America Region 1 Movies....

One thing however> in order for the DVD Player to work both Regions, the Television must also be a Multi System TV... meaning that it can play NTSC and Pal...

Summary: Not a great choice...
Review: Stay away from this player. I recently purchased one and had to return it within a few days. The player was unable to read half of my store-bought DVD collection, often would not read sound unless I went into the sound setup menu and backed out again, and had a tendency to skip chapters during playback. When returning the unit, even the salesman told me to avoid Coby and try a different manufacturer. If you are looking for a low priced secondary DVD player, do yourself a favor and invest a few more dollars to get one of greater quality. The time and hassles you save will be well worth the slightly greater price.
