Summary: A truly wonderful and heart-wrenching experience!
Review: When I first picked up this video in the video store, I really had no clue what it was about at all. It just looked interesting. When I watched the movie, I couldn't believe how truly magnificent this film actually was. I was incredulous that I hadn't heard about it before and that it hadn't seemingly done much at the box office. This movie is simply phenomenal. It shows the great courage of the African American soldiers who finally got their chance to prove themselves fighting in the Civil War for the Union Army and the end to slavery. It shows the horrible conditions, the preconceived white views of the black soldiers, and how, in the end, they are all simply courageous and honorable men (like most all soldiers in the Civil War) fighting for a cause they believed in. A must-see movie in every way! It will definitely bring tears to your eyes. The musical score is also fantastic and the acting is simply first-class all the way by Danny Glover, Denzel Washington, and Matthew Broderick.

Summary: Glory-The Movie and the Experience
Review: When I first saw the movie Glory I was moved by the events. But I did not believe that Blacks where in uniform during the war. I was never a student of the civil war and I started to research the subject but I could not find very much about this battle at Fort Wagner. Finally I found a reference to this battle and drove to Chicago and went to the Historical Society. I later purchased an antique book listing all the Michigan Regiments and the 101st Michigan Black Vounteers that fought alone side the 54th Mass.

Other than the fact of being enlightened by a wonderful story I was moved by their pride. I later joined a Michigan Re-enactment Regiment. I continued to watch a particular part of the movie to motivate me in my business. It has changed my life. The troops are sitting together around a fire signing to build their spirt. Tomorrow their are going to find themselve in front of a Fort that is well protected and they know and realize that they will be in harms way and the majority of them with be killed. Morgan Freeman, who is a Seargant Major get up in front of his troops and signs out his own prayer. This prayer is now part of my life.

I can't begin to tell you how moivng this movie is for me and many of the people who have seen it. It is not just a story about Black Man. But it does tell their story with deep detail. They might have been slaves once, but the men of the 54th Mass are MEN.

Lord we stand before you, this evening, to say thank you, we thank you father for your grace and many your blessing. Now I run off and let all my youngins and my kinfolk in bondage. So I am standing here this evening heavenly father to ask your blessing, on all of us. So that if tomorrow is our great up morning . If tomorrow we have to met the judgement day. Our heavenly father we what you to let our folks know that we died facing the enemy. we want them to know that we went down standing up Of all those that our fighting against our oppression. We want them to know that we died for freedom.

I can't state more clearly that this movie should be seen by all.

Summary: Without a doubt, one of the greatest war movie
Review: When I first saw this movie, I was about 6, I thought it was all about shooting, but when I was 10 and saw this, I understood the movie for what it really was. That life for black soldiers, at the begining, was messed up, and unfair. It was ironic 2 see the irish sargent who once hated them, give them support at the end. And it is a great movie from beginimg 2 thee end. The acting was excellent, and it's definitly one of the greatest war movies of all time. I belive it won best picture, and one of the best actors:Denzel Washington won best supporting actor. This movie deserved these awards, and anyone who loves war movies should have this in their collection.

Peace

Summary: Blacks played a significant role in keeping our country
Review: When one hears about the civil war, he/she hears about Gettysburg, or Antietam, or Appomatox. Hardly ever is the 54th Massachusetts mentioned. These black men fought not only to preserve the Union, but also for their freedom. These men had nothing to lose and really nothing to gain, yet they fought for pride and honor.

Summary: an unlikely group of heros
Review: When the Government in Washington gave its grudging permission in January, 1863,Massachusetts set about recruiting and training a pioneer Black regiment to prove that "Black Men can Fight" and, by extension, function as members of a democracy. "Glory" tells the story, in part through the letters of its commander, the very young, shy, idealistic patrician, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. He's portrayed as a historically real person; his Black soldiers (very little is known about them) are portrayed as lads-going-off-to-war types, but well defined and of course with a new slant to the old formula: they're Black. The story includes not just recruitment and training but shows the terrible prejudice against which men and officers had to struggle: ironically, they had to fight in order to be allowed to fight. The acting's excellent, including Matthew Broderick as Shaw: even his occasional woodenness and remoteness bring him alive as he sets out to build his regiment. We see him grow, and relax as he gains confidence. The Black soldiers--Denzel Washington, Morgan Freman, Andre Braugher and Jhimi Kennedy--work well as individuals and as ensemble actors. As they wrestle with their fears and limitations, we also see them grow. As the historical figure Frederick Douglass says in the film, an opportunity to strike a blow for their own people will confer honor "where they have known only degradation." That takes growing, too. Meanwhile the Award-winning photography draws us in with the specifics while letting the past stay in the past. There are some lovely shots to look for: my favorite is of a soldier proudly trying out his new combat boots. The film's famous battle scenes are vivid, horrendous and terrifying. Over all the music soars, drawing us in even when we want most to resist. For a summary of what the Civil War was really about, you can't do better; for a moving experience watching human beings growing and trying to become better people, you probably can't do better, either.

Summary: There are no words....
Review: which can truly encompass Glory. I am not a war film fan, a civil war history buff, I was persuaded to watch this film. I am so glad I did. This is a film about people, people who strive to make things better for themselves, for others. An inspirational piece. The acting is magnificent. Shaw on the beach, look out for it, his eyes showed his fear far better than mere words could ever do. The musical score gets the heart pounding, soaring, crashing. Keep a box of tissues beside you, you'll need them.

Summary: Glorious, just glorious
Review: While it goes without saying that Glory is one of the greatest Civil War movies ever made (alongside "Gettysburg" and "Gone With The Wind"), it's the extras on this DVD release that make the DVD worth every cent of your money. The retrospective featurette with commentary from Broderick, Freeman & co. is excellent, as is the documentary on the 54th, narrated by Freeman. This is a true example of the power of DVD.

Summary: 5 stars is not nearly enough for this excellent movie
Review: Words can not really describe what a touching and grasping film this is unless you watch it. By far the greatest depiction of the Civil War ever made. The cinematography is absolutely top notch, the acting is superb and the war scenes are completely realistic . A must have for your movie collection.
