Summary: The best family movie you'll see
Review: Kathy Bates is one of Hollywood's greatest actresses and provides her outstanding preformance in this hard drama showing how she deals with six kids as she is a widower in Idaho recentily moved from Los Angeles and tries to make her kids forget the life they currently live in and think of the house they will live in the near future, with the help of the priest and other great supporting roles, this emotional family drama shows exactly what other families deal with and whats the outcome, they worked hard and live now in a better home. One of my favourite family movies of all time, Kathy Bates shines. 10/10.

Summary: Very cheap looking movie, terrible script & awful acting!
Review: Kathy Bates is very vulgar in this movie and it's so poorly made that I was surprised to learn it was not made for the Hallmark Channel because they air this turkey about once a month.

Save your money for a real movie like Anaconda with the great Jon Voight or Prison Heat with Lori Jo Hendrix.

Also, no matter what the DVD package claims, the old man from the Karate Kid movies is NOT in this movie.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!

Summary: Excellent By Far
Review: The Lacey clan as the mother calls her children. Poor and fatherless living in the city find a new world and a home of their own in the country. A story of a stubborn, strong woman trying to raise her children and build a foundation. I absolutely loved this movie, and can compare it to no other.

Summary: Good movie
Review: This is a pretty good movie, I liked it as did my parents. Kathy Bates did an excellent job in this movie as did Edward Furlong. These people who say that money isn't everything however, are wrong. Money IS everything you morons, so you might as well get used to that fact. Anyone who says it isn't are only kidding themselves. oh yeah, ackoocheemoya is an idiot.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: This is an excellent movie. I highly recommend this movie to everyone of all ages. The point of this movie is not to take life for granted and be thankful for what you have in life. You can over come anything with the love and support of your family. Life isn't about money or what you have in life, but the love of your family.

Summary: Entertaining, touching, believable!
Review: This is the story of a single mom and six children who rent and barely get by from paycheck to paycheck in Los Angeles. When her job is lost, she packs up the family and sets out in a 1948 Plymouth. She promises her offspring that everything will eventually be "buttoned up and beautiful". While driving through Idaho, with the old car about to quit before they do, Mrs. Lacey spots an old would-be house which was begun and then abandoned. She convinces the owner of a nearby nursery to allow her and the children to work for the property. To some of the children it's an adventure, but life for Shayne, the oldest boy, is miserable. He is humiliated by his school coach and is constantly in arguments with his mother. His mother's iron-clad rule is enforced by her use of his deceased father's old belt.

Another child whose character is richly developed in the film is middle son Murray. Indoor plumbing becomes his goal in life!

Most viewers will probably be very frustrated at the mother's refusal to "take charity" even when her children suffer-- the Christmas scene is especially heartbreaking. I would not spoil the final fourth of the film for you-- but will simply say that it is believable. In fact, the entire story is supposed to be a true one, as stated by Shayne, who narrates these realistic events set in 1962.

Summary: Wonderful movie
Review: This movie is a wonderful drama. Kathy Bates plays a mom who one day decides to leave the city for a better life. She finds the perfect house: a half built "shack". From then on the family goes through many trials, but she goes from having only her family being close to... well I don't want to give away the movie. just see it.

Summary: not well known--too bad!
Review: this movie is excellent. it makes me cry everytime i see it. it's too bad that more people have never heard of it. kathy bates is a wonderful actress, whom never seems like she's 'acting'. i recommend this movie to anybody. it's very heartfelt and contains struggles and situations that should make people happy for what they've got. life can be difficult with the competition that is in society and the amount of money that everything costs... i, for one, am more grateful and aware of what i am blessed with after seeing this movie!
