Summary: This is Great Noir with the gloves off!
Review: Lawrence Kasdan has done a lot of great stuff as a writer (a small, indie film called Raiders of the Lost Ark comes to mind) but in Body Heat he demonstrates a great touch with the 40's noir style as a director.

Kathleen Turner sizzles, and I mean sizzles, as a smart, ruthless, greedy, and incredibly hot married women who's can't hide her lying eyes. William Hurt is naive, innocent, and believably dumb as her intrepid lover/lawyer/sap.

I dont' want to spoil too much of the plot, but it's dark, atmospheric, and well directed with great lighting that only the dvd shows well. The vhs version is terrible. Pan and scan ruins films like this one, and shadows used this effectively need dvd.

You'll like this film if you like noir, or if you just like exciting murder/romance stories, or even if you just like steamy love scenes. It's got it all.

Summary: Heat was the pioneer film of the femme fatale genre
Review: An obvious remake of Double Indemnity from the 1940s.This film is important for it seems to be the first in a long line of similar femme fatale Shannon Tweed esque type films that would later populate the made for cable market(and made for video market!) The atmoshpere is good and is definetely reminiscent of the 1940s Double Indemnity, but it stops there because the frontal nudity and steamy sex scenes would have never cut any ice in those days, and that is what is so unfortunate here because it is a worthy remake of Double Indemnity. There is good suspense, acting, and a sense of style that is unique to this film, but the ending is what is so unsatisfying. This film does not know when to quit.(example, film could have ended with the explosion of the boat house, but we are then taken to the prison where Hurt's character now resides and we are treated to dialouge between he and policeman friend, then we are taken to some tropical locale where Turner is seen basking in sun.....ENOUGH ALREADY KASDAN)

Summary: Cinematic Voyeurism Has Never Been This Good!
Review: SCENES TO DIE FOR:

1) KATHLEEN TURNER, BREATHING SEDUCTIVELY, EAGER IN FRONT OF A GLASS DOOR!

2) WILLIAM HURT, SHIRTLESS, HEAVING A CHAIR THROUGH THE SAME GLASS DOOR,

3) AN EMBRACE THAT LEADS TO MURDER, DECEPTION, AND THE INEVITABLE DOWNFALL OF THE CONSPIRATORS!

WHEW! TURN THE AIR-CONDITIONER ON FULL!

Summary: Unpredictable and Stunning
Review: "Body Heat" is film noir in the finest traditions of Raymond Chandler and James M. Cain. Noir is the genre of darkness, illicit passion, violence, and guilt. This contemporary version features seduction, murder, and betrayal with engaging performances by William Hurt and Kathleen Turner. The story twists and turns to a conclusion that is both unpredictable and stunning. Director Lawrence Kasdan cleverly uses the heat of the steamy coastal Florida locations as a metaphor for the sexual tension and atmosphere of moral decay and corruption that engulfs the protagonists.

An outstanding supporting casts features Ted Danson as Ned's loyal but suspicious colleague; J.A. Preston as a policeman committed to duty before friendship; and Mickey Rourke as a small-time criminal with more common sense than the educated lawyer. John Barry's dramatic musical score enhances the mood and atmosphere of this memorable film.

Summary: I disagree with the DvD picture quality Rating
Review: I received this DvD as a gift for Xmas. I've watched this film over and over, and it is a great value. I was surprised to see the picture quality for the DVD rated a 3 out of 5. Perhaps compared to "The Matrix" the picture quality is a 3, but that is a faulty comparison. This was filmed in a shadowy style and they were trying to do film noir in color. I compare this Dvd picture quality to that of the Vhs version of Body Heat, which is blurry and undefined. If you love this film, buy it and don't worry about the rating of a 3 out of 5. You'll like the picture quality, and if you haven't seen this film in awhile you'll love it, believe me!

Summary: I Beg to Differ....the DVD is Groovy
Review: Just to set the record straight, the video quality on this DVD is very good. All of us video-philes would prefer the letterbox over the anamorphic--but hey, it's a bargain, and the quality is quite good.

Summary: Don¿t Buy This Title; It¿s Defective!
Review: Please note that while this DVD claims to be both widescreen and pan & scan, the wide screen version is not letterboxed, but somewhat "squished" and ends up looking a whole lot like the pan & scan version. Frankly, I can't tell the difference between the widescreen side and the pan & scan side. If you're a true movie aficionado, don't buy this title until Warner Bros remasters it correctly. If you just want to watch the movie and don't care about picture quality, then go ahead and buy it. But you've been warned. (I sent my copy back for a refund!)

Summary: A true piece of film noir!
Review: BODY HEAT hits the bullseye! The story is about Ned Racine(William Hurt),a lawyer that does not seem to know the meaning of the word AMBITION.During one summer night,he meets Matty Walker(Kathleen Turner),a sexy married woman who turns down every man who wants her. However one night, she agrees to be with Ned and the beginning of a steamy liaison takes place. Some time after that, she declares her love for Ned and wants a little favor from him that will be convenient for them:she wants him to kill her rich husband.Kathleen Turner is very convincing as Matty, her first role in a motion picture. The musical score by John Barry is very good. The music is very memorable. Some parts tend to be a bit slow moving but they dont bore because of critical information they offer that will make you understand specific events that occur in the film. One of the best movies of the 1980s,no question about it!
