Summary: a GREAT movie
Review: Few movies have the power to change hearts. Prior to watching this movie, my only picture of Christianity (or Christians for that matter) were the hate-filled talking heads one sees on Larry King live whenever there is some kind of religious debate. After watching this movie I realized that "religion" is not all there is. One can have, and be truly changed by, a relationship with God. Jesus Christ shattered the life of Francis. He rebuilt it in His own image...giving Francis life to the full. Franco Zeffirelli captures the spirit of this--even if it is not accurate in every detail. The eyes of the guy who plays Francis are as haunting as the score by Donovan. A GREAT movie.

Review: Brother Sun, Sister Moon is a wonderful film--well worth viewing. As for its historicity, the film is adequate. Watching the film will inspire anyone to study the life of St. Francis.

Summary: Brother Sun, Sister Moon
Review: This movie is great! It really touches the very ground of poverty "within". The total surrender and transforming light of one's interiority. Also, it touches the church hypocrisy and blasphemy today, that only pure love and poverty in spirit can break. It will be more beautiful if the director included his stigmata. However, it is indeed an excellent movie!

Summary: one of the most touching ever
Review: This has been one of the most touching movies I have ever seen. Even though I do not subscribe to the views of Christianity, I was deeply moved by the poignant spiritual sensitivity of this movie.

Summary: Un historical
Review: Filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli (Endless Love) adds his own 'Flower Power' 60s style philosophy to the conversion story of St. Francis of Assisi. It's a shame that the film director didn't think the real story of this great saint's life was interesting enough to be told truthfully. (So it goes with Hollywood). If you do decide to see this film, we strongly recommend reading St. Francis' real-life biography so as not to be mislead! Caution: there are a couple of nudity scenes.

St. Francis of Assisi is a true Prince and pillar of the Catholic Church. He was given the gift of the Stigmata and suffered Christ's wounds in his body for many years. (Not revealed in this movie). St. Francis had a very true and deep devotion to Our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament. (Also not revealed). The truth is, his real-life story is beyond anything Hollywood would ever dare produce today!

Summary: Timeless
Review: This film exemplifies the true spirit of Christianity. If you are caught up with the things of the world, with too much to do, watch this. The best therapy going for those looking for the inspiration to simplify their lives. I cant say enough good things about it. Haven't seen it since the 60's when I first saw it, and it is just as moving, and inspiring.

Summary: A Mega Boost In Spirit
Review: I am not a Catholic and imagine I shall never be one. But this movie about the shamanic life and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi gave my spiritual life a gigantic boost and shed new light on the path I am to follow. Disillusioned by war, a rich man's son returned home only to experience a life-threatening illness accompanied by hallucination--a sort of shamanic initiation that resembled insanity. That experience set him on a new course of voluntarily impoverishment and deliberate, soul-bent simplicity and unconditional love. The story of the saint's transformation and life made my little heart arms just want to reach out and embrace both the man and the lifestyle he espoused. This is a life-changing story that makes one want to stand upon the rooftop and shout out one's Truth to the world.

Summary: A film that touched my heart
Review: I saw this movie first at a Quaker Community Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the 70's. Its impact on my spirit endures. At its conclusion, I remember an imposing football type of man next to me placing his face in his hands and weeping uncontrollably. Although a touch "flower child-toned" at times, the movie continues in its quiet way to confront those of us who live in our embarrassingly "stuff-encumbered" world with the challenge to simplify, to "do few things, do them well, take our time,go slowly."

Summary: A gentle, warm and innocent experience
Review: I first saw this film on BBC1 probably around 1984. I was 13 maybe 14-immature and a little volatile and yet I sat with my mother and watched the whole of this film on a Sunday afternoon. I never forgot the experience-the sunshine, the scenery combined with the innocence of the sound track(truly beautiful in itself-what a shame Donovan's version was never released).Having grown up ,moved on etc I came upon this film again a few years ago, for sale in London. It has become a good friend and having taped the songs onto audio tape Im currently playing the title track to my unborn child via headphones pressed against my wife's bump!Ok I may sound like Im slightly over doing it but no other film has had such an impact on the way staggered thru my life. Here's to love and compassion and this film is the essence of both.
