Summary: The best of the Mini Series
Review: I copied the original on my Beta, transfered it to VHS and now I can finally relish it on DVD. This along with The Bourne Indentity with Jaclyn Smith are Chamberlain's very best.

Summary: The Designer of the DVD set deserves an Award!
Review: I received my DVD set today, and it is beautiful. When I first opened it and and saw that it was like opening a book, the inside is amazing. The Designer of this set deserves an award for creativity. I sometimes lend my DVD's to friends and family, but this will never leave my sight. They will have to come to my house to watch!

Summary: One of the all time greatest mini-series
Review: I'm 31 and watched "The Thorn Birds" with my mother when it first aired in 1983. Since then, I would watch bits-and-pieces whenever I found it on cable. In fact it recently aired on the WE network and I watched practially the entire thing. What a surprise when I found out "The Thorn Birds" was FINALLY relased on DVD. I already got my copy and plan to watch it yet again. There are very few movies that I will watch again and again, but I never seem to tire of "The Thorn Birds."

I really wish that the TV networks would once again produce mini-series such as this. Mini-series were a staple of the late-1970's and 1980's. To me, this was the golden age of television.

Summary: Story is so moving
Review: My mom waited for this to come out on DVD so I didn't hesitate to order 2 sets. Truly it is a treasure to have one. As a Catholic myself, I see priests as truly human and not exempted to fall into sin. The struggle of being human is hard to bear and makes you think that you have to appreciate them and not to quickly judge because they fell.

Summary: One of the truly great love stories of all time.
Review: I'll admit I never watched The Thorn Birds in its entirety before it came out on DVD. But after seeing how pathetic today's reality televison is I felt I needed to watch this and take a trip down memory lane to the golden age of television. Like Chamberlain's Shogun The Thorn Birds is another masterful story about love and tradgedy. The main characters Are Father Ralph DeBricassart played by Richard Chamberlain and Meggie Cleary played by Rachel Ward. Basically she longs to build a life with him but Bricassart turns his back on her to pursue his ambitions of rising within the Catholic Church heirarchy. Even though Ralph loves her he tells her "he loves god more" a central theme of the movie. Meggie's family is devasted by loss after loss but she still keeps her composure and never loses her ability to love. A fact that Ralph points out to her at the end of the film. The movie takes place mainly in Austrailia but shifts to Rome,Italy (The Vatican) and Athens, Greece. I havent read the book but I know it is different then the movie. But then again all movies cannot be exactly like the books. Despite that this is an emotional story that touches the heart and dont be suprised if you cry during parts of the film. The musical score by Henry Mancini is top notch and masterful. So quit watching that sorry reality television and pick up The Thorn Birds. I guarantee that it will touch your heart.

Summary: So Glad this came out in DVD
Review: My wife and I have waited with great anticipation for the Thorn Birds to come out on DVD. We loved watching it as a miniseries when it first came out in 1983.

Our sons ages, 21, 17, and 15 have never seen it. THEY SAT THROUGH THE WHOLE SHOWING WITH US......AND LOVED IT!! They now want to watch it with their girl friends.

I highly recommed this to a new generation of viewers. The struggles and choices we make in life are universal, regardless of age and time.

My wife and I consider this the BEST miniseries we've ever seen.

We highly recommend that you buy it.

Summary: One of the greatest love-stories!!!
Review: A critic once wrote on the book: "This book will be read as long as women love and men care." The same can be said for this exquisite DVD-set. PERFECTLY cast, wonderfully directed with GORGEOUS music! The greatest mini-series of all time!

Summary: Now that your appetite is whetted...
Review: Now that your appetite is whetted (those of you who have seen this mini-series/DVD), will someone please start a movement to get "The Thorn Birds, the Missing Years" released on DVD? We all waited so long for the original. I hope we don't have to wait as long for the sequel. Over the years, as I have seen them run on television sequentially, I have learned to love the sequel almost as much as the original. It feels like a necessary part of the story to me.
