Summary: FRUSTRATING
Review: Absolute worst instructional video for a beninner I can possibly imagine. It may be fine for someone who knows the bare basics, but for someone who has never attempted Tai Chi, stay away from this one! Dr. Lam does, indeed, break down the forms, step by step - but he very quickly shows one step, very quickly you view the step with his assistant (from behind), and once more with "the class". That's it, move on, next step. Don't know how to *smoothly* get your hands from point a to point b because you were trying to pay attention to the feet? Don't know how to coordinate the feet & hands? Feeling completely akward? Too bad, next step! Definitely NOT relaxing and meditative.

Review: As a complete novice I have found Dr Lams video very helpful.
I am recovering from a group of surgeries for cancer. I found myself in poor physical shape and becasue of the inactivity for such a long time prone to injury. Dr Lams video has enabled me to get up and moving again and looking forward to further explore the benefiets of Tai Shi

Summary: AAHHHHH!!!
Review: I can't believe this is one of the top-selling videos. This was the most excruciatingly boring video I have ever seen. I couldn't even make it through the whole thing. If this is what I need to suffer through to learn Tai Chi, then forget it. Or maybe I'll take a real class...

Summary: I am ready for Dr. Lam's next video
Review: I found it very easy to learn. I enjoyed it. It is repeated just enough to be sure that you get it right. If you follow what he says and practice each part before you move onto the next, in no time you will be doing these 6 steps and be ready for more.

Summary: Don't waste your money!
Review: I got this DVD for my husband, who has been interested in trying Tai Chi for a while. I decided to try it out first, and only managed to get through ten minutes of it. This video is painful, and I do not mean physically. The instruction is very poor, most of the movements are shots of the back of the instructors, and the set is honestly the worst I have ever seen. I agree with another reviewer that it looks like it was shot in a basement. This is the first time I have ever wished I could give a video 0 stars. Don't waste your time or money.

Summary: first exercise video i ever wanted to buy
Review: i have no rhythm so i needed this slow, step by step process. i am only on the first lesson, but i can keep up - so i know i will go back tomorrow and try again.
the other videos all went too fast and wanted me to learn too many steps at once. i appreciate how they show the demonstators from the back so i will not have to worry about right and left. that way i can watch while i do the moves and not have too many distractions

Summary: Tai Chi - 6 Forms, 6 Easy Lessons (1995)
Review: I have reviewed 17 different Tai Chi tapes for beginners, this is by far the best. Dr. Lam presents the best form I have seen. Many other instructors abbreviate the form and movements, trying to make the learning experience easier for the beginner. I found this very confusing, especially when trying to join other groups. I just didn't know what correct form looked like. While my form is not perfect, everyday it improves with the Dr. Lam tapes. The training is provided through warm ups, class demonstration, individual demonstration, and Dr. Lam points out common mistakes made when learning a form. You are given views from the back, side and front. One after another. Learning Tai Chi can be frustrating. Dr. Lam has made it very easy for me.

Summary: For new Tai Chi members only
Review: I only rated this DVD a 4 star because it is for people who have never taken Tai Chi. The title is a bit misleading. 6 forms aren't given. 6 movements are taught in one form, the simplified Yang form. As a person with intermediate Tai Chi experience I was hoping for expanded forms. This DVD is for a complete novice. As such, it is very good. The movements are given from the front, back and side so novices can easily copy the movements. Especially helpful even for an intermediate student was how the instructor pointed out common mistakes students make in the various movements. The lessons get longer as the student goes through them. The end of the DVD gives references to more advanced videos as well as Tai Chi movements for specific ailments. If you want to learn about Tai Chi without taking a class, this is a very good start. As a reference for more advances students, it is not really worth it.

Summary: Very good intro to Tai Chi
Review: I picked up this DVD in lieu of taking a class that kept getting cancelled due to lack of interest, and I was somewhat skeptical about using a DVD to learn Tai Chi, but I have found it very helpful. Considering the complexity of some of the later movements, it was wonderful to have the movements shown from all angles, and I especially appreciated the group portions. I would recommend this to anyone.

Review: I recently received this DVD after it was on back order for over 3 months and it will not play on my DVD player or on the DVD-ROM drive on my computer. My computer gives me an error message saying it is not readable. Do not buy this DVD until the technical problems are resolved!!
