Summary: This movie is not for only for gay people.
Review: Contrary to other people's reviews, this is not a movie for queers totally. This movie has been always compared to Boogie Nights and in my opinion, I liked this movie better. Although Boogie Nights was not bad at all, the movie was just extended for too long making viewers bored. Unlike in The Fluffer, the characters that these actors are portraying are really complex and even if Sean is gay, he does not divulge himself in extraordinary homosexual pleasures.

I didn't like the cover version of the DVD though because it calls for homosexual audience, which I don't think this movie is made for. I liked the story, there were no graphic sexual scenes and you would only sit the movie for 90 minutes. If you liked Boogie Nights, then you should see this one.

Summary: Dont get your hopes high as this movie is not what it seems
Review: Having read a glowing review In Gay Times & Diva of the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival 2001 I imported the DVD at great cost. The picture quality seems good and there is some good concepts explored in the movie but not developed further. Apart from Gurney the movie is not visually very appealing and leaves a taste of a low class and low budget film. Even more amazing is the fact that movie is about pornstar but there is hardly a spec of frontal nudity shown. For me the movie was disappointing and I doubt if it justifies repeat viewing. I expected better.

Summary: Jumping On An Idiotic Bandwagon
Review: Horrible. Tries very hard to be "Boogie Nights," which wasn't so great a flick to begin with. People will love it.

Summary: Very good!
Review: I didn't expect a whole lot going into this film. I was pleasantly surprised. It was funny, emotional and kept my attention throughout. I could relate to much of it. It is a love story - albeit mostly unrequited. The main theme/message is about idolization, disappointment and the eventual acceptance of reality.

Summary: Way more coherent and thoughtful than I expected
Review: I don't have a lot to say, except that I bought this movie because I was looking for something with gay characters. Note: this is not pornography; it is a story that uses the gay porn industry as its backdrop. I was pleasantly surprised by the capable acting and the presence of a decent plot. I wasn't too thrilled about the ending, but that's not enough to cause me to dissuade anyone from seeing "The Fluffer." On the contrary, it's a pleasure to recommend this movie.

Summary: Not Oscar material, but more than just fluff
Review: I made a point of NOT reading any reviews on Amazon or any print reviews .... I wanted to be able to form my own opinions of the film AFTER seeing it for myself. Having had some time to process and think about it, it was not a bad film.

The characters are quite believable and I felt sympathy for some of them but not for others, particularly for Johnny Rebel Porn Star, played by Scott Gurney. Gurney's performance is quite good. Nevertheless, it's very difficult to feel anything good for either his character or his actions in the story.

The Fluffer is a rather dark love story, but I enjoyed it for its honesty and reality. It's not romanticized in any way--quite refreshing for a gay film. It seems that many GLBT films struggle to make you like them but forcing emotions or plotlines. Not the case here.

For that reason I gave it 4 stars overall. The acting rates 4 stars easily. The screenwriting a 3 and the dialogue a 2. However, the film's unflinching look at life and consequences makes it a strong and thought-provoking look at the lives of some gay (and straight) people's lives.

Recommended.

Summary: yeah, GAY porn life -let's not forget
Review: I thought cool, I watch porn and it'd be interesting to see the life behind the scenes (boogie nights, et al.) But this is gay porn, which turns even the non-homophobic OFF. I painfully watched and hoped for a movie but there was little. Yes, I probably couldn't see past my phobia for phalics, but this review only serves to warn others. Not for the Will&Grace crowd either. Sorry.

Summary: Believable acting with a story in a tailspin...
Review: I was surprised at the overall tone of sadness and depression in this movie. The actors, who very believably played struggling youths growing up in a porn/stripper world, were the highlight of this film. Maybe the script needs more credit for the intentional lack of flair and in the end is VERY believable.

This is not a "feel good" movie, so don't expect a sense of happiness at the conclusion. After watching a convoluted movie like this and knowing these types of situations DO exist in real life, made me thankful my life is "simple" compared to this.

This film won't win any Oscars, but it's worth the watch for it's raw production value...4 stars.
