Summary: A decent werewolf flick
Review: While An American Werewolf In Paris won't be winning any awards for it's deep dramatic content, it's certainly a step up from many of the horror flicks of the 90s. When three twentysomething American guys go to Paris on their "Daredevil Tour", one falls (right off the Eiffel Tower) for a mysterious French woman attempting to commit suicide. Once the two become involved, he realizes that he's gained more than he bargained for. Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do) , Julie Delpy (TV's "ER"), and Julie Bowen (TV's "Ed") are all top-notch in their roles. The special effects are well-done, especially the first transformation of Julie Delpy's character. Another plus to this thriller is it's rock soundtrack. Hot bands such as Bush, Better Than Ezra, and Smashmouth have songs in the film. The main problem with the film is it's lack of Paris itself. The beginning of the film boasts great shots of the Eiffel Tower, a gothic-designed opera house, and other landmarks. However, these elements are lost later in the film, and we mainly see the sewers of the city. Overall, An American Werewolf In Paris is a decent film worthy of your time, but definitely rent it before buying it; it's not for all tastes

Summary: Weaker Relative of A Strong English Parent
Review: Thanks to George Gershin's American in Paris, An American Werewolf in Paris was a natural after An American Werewolf in London--I was even calling the first film that as a not terribly funny joke when it came out. American Werewolf in London was a terrific film, breaking new grounds in werewolf transformations--they were truly astonishing, revoltingly gory bubbling hideous seeping stretching changes that made the audience realize how truly horrifying and painful becoming a werewolf would be. And then there was the lead character's best friend, a tortured corpse who kept decaying in disgusting detail throughout the film. To top it off, all this absolutely innovative and realistic special effects was matched with a smart, funny script, terrific acting, and a witty soundtrack--it's still one of the best horror films ever made.

So it's no surprise that a sequel would be made, and it's no surprise that the sequel falls short, especially given that none of the major personalities involved in the original returned. Directing, script, acting, special effects, music, are all in different and apparently less proficient hands. It's not that American Werewolf in Paris is a bad movie, not by a long shot, but it pales in comparison to its parent.

Two major weaknesses mar the film. The first, and most serious, is that it all too often tries too hard to be funny, and falls flat. Most of the humor is abandoned toward the end in favor of action and at that point the movie improves, but early scenes made me suspect the whole thing was going to be a failure. The second flaw is that the CGI werewolves are really inferior They blend badly with the live action at several points, and frankly it's almost always hard to really make them out, especially their faces. In England, the Werewolves were shown often and in great detail, but apparently in France they are quite a bit more shy. The Parisian undead also suffer in comparison--gory, yes, but not terribly realistic or frightening.

Nonetheless, American Werewolf in Paris did have its delights. There's a good duel between two werewolves that's the best CGI in the film, but it's quite short. The climax of the film is well done and very satisfying, even if it is rather predictable. Perhaps some viewers will even prefer this film over the original for its lesser intensity. Worth watching, even worth buying for horror buffs, but lower your expectations from the original for best results.

Summary: FULL MOON FUNNIES
Review: I liked this movie; it's not quite as "novel" as its predecessor, set in London, but it still has some fresh and chilling moments. I didn't mind the CGI werewolves, they were kind of neat. Here's some other thoughts:
*PHIL BUCKMAN might have made a better hero than TOM EVERETT SCOTT; where Scott had the boyish naievete down, he didn't have the physical swagger or heroic drive that Mr. Buckman had. Buckman should have gotten more screen time.
*JULIE DELPY didn't put enough ooomph in her role, either. She's lovely, but listless.
*I never understood exactly what Delpy's father was trying to do, and whether by the end Delpy was still a werewolf?
*Julie Bowen was a howl as the ditsy pickup, and even funnier as one of the walking dead.
*Why Did Delpy think she was the one who had werewolfized Scott?
A pleasant, if inconsistent, diversion.

Summary: An Enjoyable Sequel with Great Werewolf Effects
Review: Bear in mind, it would take nothing short of a miracle to surpass the originality and greatness of the original film that this movie is based on. But as an updated version in an entirely different city it does a pretty good job. The Werewolf effects were great, the death scenes very graphic and bloody. It was pretty obvious that the effects were CGI but being a horror movie my disbelief was already pretty much in the stratosphere. The beautiful French actress, Julie Delpy is great and Tom Everret Scott plays the lead very well. The only thing that gets me is that it took so damn long for a sequel to An American Werewolf in London and yet there have been several sequels to The Howling, which is just a terrible werewolf film. There needs to be more American Werewolf movies! If you're a Horror/gore fan this movie is right up your alley. Arguing corpses, neo-nazi Werewolves and a great sense of humor make this an enjoyable sequel to the original that's far better than the Howling (if you like The Howling, I'd suggest checking out Howling V: Rebirth, it's a pretty spooky movie with good werewolf effects). All in all if you loved the first movie you'll at least like the second, so check it out all you little lycanthropes!

Summary: A pathetic attempt at a "Sequel"

Summary: Horrible
Review: This is a terrible movie and it's a shame it's even associated with one of my all time favorites, An American Werewolf in London. The animation here is novice, the acting is bad, the script is silly. Overdone, overproduced, overkill. Skip this one.

Summary: A Howling Delight
Review: Sorry about that title, but I couldn't resist. This really is a very good film. A sequel of sorts, really just a more modern remake, to an American Werewolf in London, this film has a great combination of horror and humor, action and adventure, with a nice romantic element and interesting special effects to boot.

In, "An American Werewolf in Paris", some American backpackers are attacked by werewolves in Paris. Skeptical about werewolves, the survivors can't believe that they will turn into werewolves themselves at the next moon. They do, with the predictable carnage. (I don't want to give names and spoil and surprise)

Slowly our hero becomes convinced that he does turn into a werewolf during the full moon. To stop the killing, he has to either kill the person who made him a werewolf, or kill himself. Problem: He loves the person whom he believes bit him. Added to this mix, we learn that there is a "werewolf cult" in Paris. They are feeding on the homeless and visitors from other lands. The police are involved and suspect our hero is a serial killer.

But this review leaves dry, the great fun of this movie. For me, more then anything, this movie was funny and interesting. It is not a comedy, but it is a faithful depiction of young men in the world, in any day. It also had great action scenes, and THINKING people. In one scene, a lady chased by a werewolf misleads it with a clever and believable distraction.

In other words, there are no cars that don't start, little children who run towards the bad guys, or the other expected and stupid things we find in most horror movies. This is a smart and sassy clever movie. Fun for most people from 16 up. I recommend it.

Summary: Serafine cured in the ambulance, maybe?
Review: *spoiler*

Was that injection adrenaline, a stimulant? Opposite of the depressant that caused the instant transformation... Maybe it was an instant cure... Hence the "I love you" that made that goofy guy grin.
