Summary: Battery does not recharge
Review: After few cycles, the battery just does not recharge. Image quality just marginallly better than a laptop pc. A waste of money.

Summary: Great Unit
Review: After much research I recently purchased this DVD player and I've been very impressed. Our family recently took a vacation and it worked perfectly on the airplane, and I was easily able to hook it up on my parents TV so my boys could watch some movies. The only drawback I have on the unit is the speaker volume doesn't seem to be as strong as some of the others, but
the sound is awesome with the stereo headphones (I picked up a Sony set that fits in your ear for about 10.00)I played the new James Bond Die Another Day DVD and I was very impressed with the stereo and sorround sound. We will also be using this unit for trips in our mini-van. Our mini-van has a center console table and this unit just fits on the table which will make it very easy to transport. The unit seems very durable and able to take a little more of a beating than some of the other units. I strongly recomend this unit and if you're in the market for a portable DVD player I don't think you can go wrong with this unit. Make sure you do your research and find a unit that meets your needs. There are some nice looking 9" and higher units out there, but for me I needed something that was smaller and very portable. For me and my family this unit is a perfect fit. The only problem is that I don't know how many more times I can watch the Care Bears movie!!

Summary: battery life is problematic
Review: dvd player works well. Battery fails to hold charge after being used 5 times. Toshiba has sent us 2 replacement batteries so far (in less than one year). If I had known about the battery problems in advance, I would not have purchased this product. I would NOT recommend it to others. From reading other on-line reviews, my battery problems seem to be widespread, although Toshiba has been honorable with us so far.

Summary: Plays MPEGs From ROM discs
Review: Great picture, poor quality sound from speakers but you have to expect that from such tiny speakers. The 2 headphone outlets are convenient and work well. But here's something they don't mention in the catalog-it can play MPEG Quicktime movies from a CD-Rom or a DVD-Rom. They do tell you that is plays JPEG photos and it does. The problem with JPEG and MPEG reading is that navigating the discs using the control panel is, to put it mildly, not intuitive. Also,it is sometimes necessary to turn the unit off and then on again to get it to load commercially produced DVD's. Homemade DVD's and VCD's are sometimes playable or not depending on the MFR of the blank disc and what program recorded it. It accepts and reads w/o complaint SVCD's recorded on Roxio Toast Titanium. Also sometimes it will not load a DVD until plugged into a wall socket even though the battery low power warning is not activated. The unit is generally reliable and has never failed me though there have been the minor nuisances listed above. Like I said the picture is great even playing MPEG's from a ROM disc. And you can adjust picture brightness with the Shift-EAM button on the remote.(Not Intuitive Again)

Summary: Big punch in a small package
Review: Having never owned one of these before, I have nothing to compare it to. However, I watched my first movie using headphones and I was very impressed with its performance. I have been trying to find the correct car adapter for this device since it is not included in the package. Would also like to get the correct case for it. Being unable to track these items on line is frustrating but other than that the DVD player will blow you away.

Summary: Picture is iffy, but it's a solid unit
Review: I also owned the Mintek 1700 and in fact, I took it back and spent an extra [$$] to upgrade to this Toshiba unit. The reviewers who said that the picture is hard, pixellated and looks like it has too much contrast (which you can't turn down, but can on the Mintek) are right. Compared to the Mintek, the picture is not as good. But the retailers actually warned me of that when I took my Mintek back to the store that I purchased it in. It's not terrible, but definitely not as smooth or pretty and vivid as the Mintek. It all comes down to quality. Do you want to spend [$$]on a unit that has a nice picture but breaks often or spend the extra [$$] on a unit that is sturdy and durable with a slightly inferior picture? When you decide that then you can figure out which portable DVD player is best for you. I'd like to have the Mintek's crystal clear picture back, but it was a hassle to exchange it every 2-3 months.

Summary: Keeping my fingers crossed
Review: I am an American Soldier in the US Army Infantry. Our living conditions over here does not support the fragile conditions needed for most DVD players. This does not stop soldiers from buying DVD players, we need them to help keep our sanity.

This DVD player from Toshiba has been with me for 7 months. the only problem I have had with it is the cutoff button than shuts off the screen when you close the screen. That is an easy fix and a minor problem, all you do is pull up on the little button. That is probably why other people in the states say thiers cant't take bumps in the car.

Well I can tell you, I am in charge of an Armored vehicle and in a Bradley it is a very bumpy ride. I have had zero problems with my Toshiba while other guys keep buying cheaper DVD players over and over again. My Toshiba has been thru sandstorms, and keeps running smoothly. It has been in tempertures of over 130 degrees.

I am pleased enough with this product to take the time to write this to say good job Toshiba and thanks for such a durable product. I have seen hundreds of movies on mine and as for the battery, mine lasts up to almost 4 hours. No problems there and I keep my battery connected. I think the problem people are running into is they rely on outlet power and keep the battery connected while using the DVD. I rely on my battery. And charge it when I have electricity.

Anyways if you want a durable DVD player, this is your DVD your looking for.

Summary: Not very good quality
Review: I bought this dvd player a year ago and can't remember a time it ever worked correctly. It skips and freezes a lot (and thats when its placed on a table or other stable surface). You can only imagine what it plays like in the car.
