Rating: Summary: Scariest film of the 80's Review: "A Nightmare On Elm Street" introduced us to that finger-knived maniac we have come to love...Fred Krueger. Four teens from Springwood, Ohio, are having nightmares about a guy in a red and green sweater with a razor bladed glove stalking them. One of the teens, Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) finds out who he is, and after she sees all of her friends killed by Freddy, she enters his dreamworld and pulls him out of it and into reality, where she can kill him. This movie is definitely the best out of the series. In this one, Freddy is hardly seen, he is always in the shadows, waiting to kill. He isn't the practical jokester that he became in the other sequels. The best sequence, in my opinion, is the first and last chase scene involving Nancy. Loved when he crashed through the mirror to get her. Also starring Johnny Depp in his first starring role, Amanda Wyss, Nick Corri, Ronee Blakely, and John Saxon. Rent or buy it!
Rating: Summary: truly the top "horrifier" of all the scary movies ive seen Review: "a nightmare on elm street" is the definitive twisted horror shocker (although halloween is the greatest movie ever). What i think brings the biggest scares in this movie is the way how Wes Craven (before he started to make [junk] like Scream) creates images that are so strangly terrifing, that you really will have a nightmare, probably more. He also uses strange mind tricks and such, and you dont know whether your watching a "scream dream" or a regular day on Elm Street. I warn you though, this movie is V-E-R-Y scary and is not for newcomers to the Horror Genre!!!!

Rating: Summary: What can I say? A horror masterpiece! Review: "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is an excellent concept on film in which a burnt man with "knives for fingers" stalks 4 teenagers, and if he kills them in their dreams, they die for real. This is when Freddy Krueger was actually scary, he doesn't crack any one liners in this, he is hidden in the shadows and the final chase scene with Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) is great! Speaking of Heather, she puts on a very good performance as the teenager who literally goes crazy from not getting enough sleep and bravely steps into Freddy's world to kill him. Best heroine of the series I think. The effects were outstanding for the time, very realistic. Too bad Wes Craven wasn't involved with any of the other sequels (except Parts 3 & 7), they could have been just as good as this one, but Freddy was reduced to an idiot goofball who cracked TOO MANY one liners, while killing people in wacked ways. Stick to this one if you want to watch something really scary, watch the other ones only if you are a die-hard fan.
Rating: Summary: Interesting concept for a horror movie Review: "A Nightmare On Elm Street" is one of the best horror flicks of the '80s. Not because of the gruesome slash-'em-up flicks like "Friday the 13th," but because of its interesting premise.A spectral child murderer, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), comes back from the dead to take revenge on the people who killed him-- simply killing their teenagers in their sleep. Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) wants to destroy him once and for all, and enlists her boyfriend (Johnny Depp, in his first film role) to help her. What follows is a roller coaster ride filled with genuine thrills and chills, not to mention genuinely frightening for the casual viewer or the die-hard horror movie buff. But what disappoints me is the train of weak, uninspired sequels and a horrible TV series that followed it (excluding Part 3 and "New Nightmare.") I've gotta hand it to Wes Craven to making a good horror movie that sides with "Halloween" as one of the best horror movies of the '70s-'80s and for jump-starting Langenkamp's and Englund's movie careers. Rated R for horror violence/gore, nudity, and for language.
Rating: Summary: Like "Halloween," A Horror Classic. Review: "Halloween" is the Greatest Slasher Film Ever Made, & "Nightmare On Elm Street" is the Second Greatest. Right from Frame 1, Craven creates an eerie atmosphere of fear & tension & keeps it going throughout the whole film, right down to the weird-@ss finale. Opening scene of Freddy assembling his infamous glove merely commences this genre-defining masterpiece. The film isn't perfect, & there aren't many deaths, but there's plenty of blood; Glen's death scene is 1 of the most famous in the horror genre, & you'll see why. You'll also see why this is 1 of horror's most enduring classics. And to end this review on a rhyming note: I LOVE THAT GLOVE.
Rating: Summary: one of the TOP 5 horror flicks of all time Review: "nightmare on elm street" is an instant classic. itis simply one of the best horror movies there is. it was dark, scary, somewhat believable with totally original concept and came from the master of horor himself, wes craven. this was the film which launched wes' career sky high. this wasn't like most other films which rely on big budget and special FX to carry the film. "nightmare" certainly didn't have the biggest budget ($1.2 million) but it had wes' creativity and imaginativeness to carry it. that's what makes the film so good. i compare this one to "halloween." a very dark and scary horror movie that also had a small sense of believability. and instead of relying on big budget special FX it relying mostly on the creativeness of the director. of course, not all the credit can be given to director wes craven here, but also the excellent performances given by relative newcomers heather langenkamp, amanda wyss, nick corri, the then newcomer johnny depp and last but not least robert englund (who is wonderful as freddy), john saxon, and ronnee blakely. "nightmare on elm street" is one of the top five horror movies of all time, ranking right up there with "halloween", "hellraiser", and a few others. it's just too bad how the producers played this out with too many sequels. just having parts 1, 3, 7 would've been good enough.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie!!!!!! Review: "Nightmare on Elm Street" is one hell of a movie. Robert Englund makes Freddie a creepy character in my opinion. Wes Craven brought nightmares to life with Freddie Kruegger. What else can I say but, the movie is a CLASSIC.
Rating: Summary: Wes Craven's Ultimate Nightmare? Review: "This is God" Freddy KruegerWes Craven's Nightmare on Elm Street is the most stunningly orginal horror filmof the 1980's. Dealing with the unexpected unexplainable nature of dreams, Nightmare deals with an issue which everyone has had experience with, dreaming. The mystery, origin, and meaning of dreams has never been fully explainedby science, philosophy, or modern technology. Craven plays on our fears and lack ofknowledge about dreams by creating the ultimate killer named Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). This mass murderer exsists in dreams and manufactures the worst fears of his victims and then kills them in their dreams ironicallykilling them in real life. This relevation that dreaming can be fatal was a masterstroke in making the absurdity of the horror film more crediable by introducing the everyday back to horror films. Horror is alwaysat its best when it can seducethe audience to believe that what's happening can actually come true. With Nightmare, Craven creates a real world with broken-up famlies, egotistical fathers, alcoholicmothers, emotionally troubled teenagers, and authentic humanmonsters that roam the streetsphysically and psychologically. The dream-like atmosphere of Nightmare leaves the audience uncertain as to when the movieis in a dream and when its in reality. This uncertain footing between reality and dream gives Nightmare the feelof an actual nightmare. Only monotonous dialogue, conservative pacing, bland acting, predictable plotting, and a confusing ending hamper this bold film from being as perfect as it's concept. As for the DVD edition, a must-buy for any fan of the film. P.S. Beware of the blending bed.
