Rating: Summary: The reason Tales from the Crypt died Review: While the first film was a solid, self-contained horror flick with a touch of humor and a fair amount of sophistication and imagination, Bordello of Blood falls apart under poor direction and a far too free-spirited nature. While it is a failure as a sequel it manages to entertain only as a brainless timewaster.Dennis Miller does his best with the weak material and ad-libs a lot of humor. A little too much, taking the film even further from it's already vague ambitions. But worry not, his humor is still free and easy, unlike his cryptic (no pun intended) football commentaries. Erika Eleniak is marginally engaging and Corey Feldman is well underused. The weakest performances come from Angie Everhart as the ancient vampire Lillith and Chris Sarandon as the outrageously stereotyped southern TV evangelist. It's these performances that keep the film eternally low brow. It's sad that Tales from the Crypt totally died after this movie but the powers behind it went on to found the Dark Castle production company (check out those movies they're actually quite scary and effective). This new version of Bordello of Blood is by Universal and is presented in it's proper aspect ratio of 1.85:1 anamorphic and is in Dolby 5.1. The cheapo snapper case has been replaced by a sturdy keepcase and a new cover art. The only new extra is a trailer.
Rating: Summary: Underrated brilliance Review: I never understood why so many people hate this movie. Even Fangoria called it 'abysmal'. But I consider it a worthy follow-up to the delicious Demon Knight. It has brilliant acting: Dennis Miller is a treat as smartass private eye. Angie Everhart is not only the hottest female vampire in years, no, she even proves that she can actually act. Corey Feldman has one of his very few good roles. But who really chews the scenery is Chris Sarandon (Fright Night), one of the most underrated actors ever: His performance as a TV preacher alone makes this movie worth watching. Only Erika Eleniak is rather miscast. And watch out for Demon Knight veteran William Sadler (another underestimated actor) as mummy. The make-up F/X are not only unbelievably gory for an R-rated movie; they're so excellent they even surprise genre buffs who thought they've seen it all. The characters are wonderfully weird, and although there's loads of black humour in it, I'm glad Bordello of Blood never turns in a fun-splatter movie and still provides some chills. Even if you heard it's awful: Give it a try! It's more than just another vampire movie and has more imaginery than all those new teen horror films that Scream spawned together. I just hope there'll be a final part to the Tales from the Crypt full-length-feature trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Tales From The Crypt Presents - Bordello of Blood Review: When a Private Investigator (Dennis Miller) is hire by a church-going, sexy concerned sister (Erika Eleniak) to find her bad-assed brother (Corey Feldman) the case turns into a bloodbath. When they finally find her brother he is found in a local mortuary which tends to have funerals in the mornings and a whorehouse at night. The whorehouse is run by a vampire (Angie Everheart) whose over 1,000 years old. Full of comedy, gore and (of course) sex, Bordello of Blood is very satisfying and has the ability to entertain multiple viewings. The film also co-stars Chris Sarandon. The DVD isn't much. It only have a Theatrical Trailer. Picture: B Sound: B- Special Features: F
Rating: Summary: Gorey and fun horror romp Review: The second (but hopefully not last) Tales From the Crypt film, Bordello of Blood is as nasty as it's title implies. Full of scantily clad vampire women and loaded with a surprising amount of gore for an R-rated movie, this film is pure trashy horror fun with comedian Dennis Miller playing a private eye who stumbles upon a bordello full of vampires being funded by an evangilist (Chris Sarandon). Plenty of toungue-in-cheek dark humor, hot babes, and wild gore; Bordello of Blood doesn't hit the same greatness as Demon Knight, but it doesn't try to either. Also featuring Erika Eleniak, Corey Feldman, and Angie Everhart as the mouthwatering vampire master.
Rating: Summary: Vampire Prostitutes Review: Bordello of Blood is the second Tales From the Crypt movie, and I found it very enjoyable. Unlike the first movie (Demon Knight) this movie did not start out with the television show's opening. It opened more like a movie than an extra long episode. Bordello of Blood is the story of a down-on-his-luck private investigator (Dennis Miller) looking for a missing teenager. The search leads him to a funeral home that is a front for a bordello run by vampires. Miller's client tells him to drop the case but he really needs the case to succeed if he is going to get his license back. Miller investigates and plays a very savvy investigator who doesn't fall for anyone's lines and is not surprised by what he finds. Added to this is television evangelism, the lore of vampires and their origin, and the key from the first movie. The action is similar to the series with the same tongue-in-cheek humor (possibly even more so). I particularly liked the investigator's resourcefulness in eliminating the vampires (a long-range, large-capacity squirt gun filled with holy water) and the vampire applying the SPF100 sun block. If you like Tales From the Crypt, there is no reason you will not like this one.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! ;O Review: As a fan of both the HBO series and the general horror genre, I can say without a doubt that "Bordello of Blood" is THE WORST movie I've seen thus far. Not only is the script more poorly written than in "Demon Knight," but even the gory effects appeared fake. Basically, Corey Feldman plays a rebellious heavy metal freak named Caleb who (along with his drunken friends) enter the McCutcheon mortuary for one purpose: to have a good, dirty time with XXX prostitutes in a single night of sex and alcohol. However, these bare naked girls turn out to be a coven of ravenous, lustful vampires who want to eat the boys' hearts out...literally! And, of course, they are all led by Lilith (Angie Everhart), the most bloodthirsty Madam from Hell. Later on, Dennis Miller steps into the picture as Rafe Guttman, a mumbling detective who is hired to investigate Caleb's disappearance. Rafe is given the assignment by Caleb's virginal sister Katherine (Erika Eleniak), who couldn't get any aid from the police because they won't take her seriously. Meanwhile, Katherine herself provides spiritual support to Reverend Current (Chris Sarandon), a televangelist who regularly broadcasts from his own high-tech, crystal cathedral (the robotic Devil was a nice touch, by the way!) Then, of course, it's discovered that the Reverend isn't as righteous as he pretends to be, since HE was responsible for financially supporting Lilith's resurrection (all for the Lord's work, no doubt!) As Rafe gets closer to solving his case, he's repeatedly seduced by Lilith's obscene charms, and soon it's up to him to kill all of the vampires and destroy the bordello. I'm sure "Bordello of Blood" will be a cinematic pleaser for anyone wanting to see mindless violence and sleaze. Splatter movie fans will undoubtedly enjoy witnessing topless vampire vixens ooze and explode in the out-of-control climax; this is the part where Rafe and the Reverend shoot holy water out of toy super-soakers. Even better is the moment when Rafe chops into Lilith's shoulder blade with an axe, and she flips the bird just before vanishing into thin air. Even Reverend Current reminds Rafe that the only way to kill Lilith is to cut her heart into four pieces (how nice!). Sadly, such grisly sequences are all this movie has to offer. I personally became offended in seeing the overabundance of Playboy nudity and bondage. There's even a scene where Aubrey Morris's mortician character fondles a female corpse, who he named "Mrs. Fat." WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY?? HOW DISGUSTING!! As far as the acting goes, it's even MORE HORRIBLE! Dennis Miller is an unfunny comedian. Chris Sarandon does nothing more than adapt a sore stereotype of any televangelist. Erika Eleniak and Corey Feldman are more decent performers; to me, they appeared to struggle hard with the putrid dialogue written for them. Out of everyone in the cast, Crypt-Keeper was probably the best actor in the entire film! I beg you, kiddies, PLEASE AVOID THIS FILM AT ALL COSTS! OTHERWISE, YOU WILL HATE YOURSELF!!
Rating: Summary: simply brilliant!!! Review: if you like gory and funny movies you just have to get "bordello of blood". it's one of those rare "funsplatter"-movies like "braindead", "bad taste" or its prequel "demon knight". for those who don't know that kind of movies - it means: little story but much dark humor and lots of entrails and stuff flying around =) with the price of 10$ i think it's also worth the try for people who don't know the genre and are curious :) (and if you like "bordello of blood" then get "demon knight" which is even funnier - IMO the story is better too)
Rating: Summary: Beautiful and Fun Review: For those of you who have not seen this movie before, this is at least worth renting. Angie Everheart is the most beautiful vampire to ever hit the screen. She is very powerful and seductive at the same time. If you are a Dennis Miller fan then this movie is a must see, it reaks of his sarcasm and wit. This is one of those movies that you don't have to wonder if they are following the traditional vampire theme or not. It has beautiful women, a little gore, and a whole lot of humor.
Rating: Summary: hard to find but worth it. Review: the two tales from the crypt movies are not being made any more so if you are a fan grab them.
Rating: Summary: Awful and predictable...:( Review: I am a big fan of the "Tales from the Crypt" series. I've watched every single episode and I also loved Demon Knight. But when I rented Bordello of Blood from Blockbuster and watched the tape from beginning to end, I was absolutely turned off. In fact, I am angry that many fans on this site even think of giving Bordello 5 stars! Bordello is one of the most disgusting films I ever watched; it isn't even a horror movie! There is so much nudity and sexist behavior that the resulting film looked like it came right out of the Playboy Channel. What's worse is that Dennis Miller, who portrayed the perverse detective Rafe Guttman, mumbles nearly throughout the film; his wise-cracks are just unfunny. Chris Sarandon wasn't any better as Reverend Jimmy Current; he's just an exaggereated cariacature of any phony televangelist. Angie Everheart, who played Lilith the Mother of All Vampires, is the most pathetic actress of all. Her seductions over men and her liking of strippers is downright insulting to all female fans. Finally, if that's not bad enough, the Crypt-Keeper skit that opens the movie is NOT original, but rather a recycled version of a similar skit done in a 1996 episode called "The Assasin," which Corey Feldman happened to appear in. All in all, this movie is not worth a cent buying! Buy Demon Knight instead or, even better, pray that the 3rd Tales from the Crypt film opens this Halloween.
