Summary: Anne of Avonlea
Review: "Anne of Green Gables - The Sequel" DVD contains the series known on VHS as "Anne of Avonlea."

Here, we seen many changes in Avonlea. Diana Barry is getting married and Gilbert Blythe leaves for medical school. Anne also leaves Prince Edward Island to teach at a girls school. Here, she meets the combatative Pringle clan and the dashing Morgan Harris. Being Anne, she is soon in the thick of mischief and intrigue leading a life of poetry and romance. All the while charming tears from stones with her honesty and pluck.

The cast does it's usual excellent job and "Anne of Green Gables - The Sequel" is every bit the equal to the original "Anne of Green Gables." The scenery is plush, and the dialog is full of wit and wisdom.

The DVD itself is not of superior quality, but it is no worse than a VHS tape (minus one star for DVD quality). I did not find my enjoyment of the story to be affected in anyway. It is nice to have the entire series on a single DVD. This series is a classic to be handed down and enjoyed.

Summary: This is the second movie not that disappointing third movie!
Review: A lot of reviewers gave bad reviews of this movie thinking it was the dreadful third movie The Continuing Story when it's really the delightful second movie, in Canada it's called Anne of Green Gables the Sequel while in the USA it's Anne of Avonlea and I believe when it was first shown on TV in the USA it was called Anne of Green Gables the Sequel but for some reason they changed the title in the USA. I believe that the confusion of reviewers with Anne of Green Gables the Sequel and Anne Of Green Gables The Continuing Story was because Amazon by mistake or computer glitch had shown the cover for and description for The Continuing Story under the title Anne of Green Gables the Sequel but I see that Amazon has since discovered and fixed that mistake. Anyway Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea is a great movie and has Anne leaving home to go teach in another town where she is romanced by Morgan the wealthy and handsome father of one of her students, which will have you wondering if Kevin Sullivan changed the story and if she will wind up with Morgan instead of Gilbert, but if you haven't seen the movie yet don't worry because the question of who she chooses is answered at the end, and I'm sure it's very obvious who she will choose anyway! Though I thought Morgan or really the guy who played him was handsome in my mind Gilbert is the only man for her and I wish they had shown more of him in the movie! I recommend this movie in either one of it's titles!

Summary: Don't See THIS ONE if you liked the other two!
Review: ANNE VS ESPIONAGE??! What a dumb plot. The music, setting, and portrayals of the characters that beckond you to want to live in Green Gables, are not only not present in this -- its almost like they burn up your love for them, and they actually burn up part of Green Gables. The end is strange and not very cohessive with the rest of the movie. They are very antiamerican, which didn't happen! I think it was too much plot in too little time. With such a sense of rushing through a wierd story, you never quite feel like you know what is going on. Follows looks like Hillary.

Summary: A "MUST HAVE" for the family library
Review: As a new user on the internet buying market, I am thoroughly pleased with my experience. I ordered a DVD movie that proved impossible to obtain through any other medium. The price was very reasonable, order & payment process easy, & I received in 2 days of shipping. I will definitely use Amazon.com for future purchases. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Abyssmal
Review: Aside from how this film represented the author's intentions, it was a very frustrating one to watch. The scenery was not enjoyable (unlike the first two movies), and the plot was not credible. Any good reviews on this movie must have been written or influenced by Mr. Sullivan himself, as it is hardly believable that anyone would give it four stars.

Summary: ...has got the cover wrong!
Review: Be careful, this is the cover of the second Anne movie(which was marvelous) not the third movie. Horrible third movie, very disappointed. Nothing like the first 2 movies. What were thinking?! Bring the Anne we love, and this movie goes nothing by the books. At least the first 2 movies, combined the books into one. Not worth the money.

Summary: A pretty good flick....
Review: Before I had seen this movie (or even knew it existed) I had read the L.M. Montgomery stories about a dozen times each, the one I read the most though, was Rilla of Ingleside.
I feel sorry for the poor misguided fools who thought this movie was about Rilla, and then couldn't open their minds just a little to try to enjoy the movie. The worst thing they could do is take their own stupidity out on the movie, which sadly, some of them indeed did do. And then they call themselves fans of the originals. I suppose they hadn't realized that original "Anne of Green Gables" movie was set twenty years later than the original book and even if they did, the certainly didn't care to hate those ones. Of course, if it's a book on stage it always HAS to be great and any originality or changes to the book's plot are horrible and should be thrashed in all possible ways (trace the sarcasm there).
I personally loved the movie. I prefer to keep an open mind and take things for what they are, not what they're not or should've been. I realized that maybe it was a good thing the movie wasn't about Rilla and Ken because if it turned out to be a horrible, HORRIBLE film, I would then not have anything to rely on for fun except the book.
Megan Follows and Jonathon Crombie (as well as Cameron Daddo) do good justice to their characters. The plotline was something of interest to me because there are very few World War One movies out there that have characters with such heart as these do. Anne's travel to Europe to find her husband was a good idea, and also gave the movie a more personal touch. I also loved Gilbert's selflessness in the first part where he refuses to risk a patient's life to excel his career.
But above all, my favorites (other than Anne, Gilbert and Jack) had to have been the Actresses and Maud Montrose. They spirit of the actresses and the mystery of Maud were wonderful additions to something I had already taken a shine to.
To basically sum up, I would give this movie a definite 5, because one thing I learned from Anne prior to seeing the movie (I'm referring to the books) is that taking things for what they are is always the best thing, but also having your opinion is a good thing. This is my opinion. Take it, or leave it.

Summary: Great movie; Sullivan Entertainment can't do quality DVDs!!!
Review: First of all, "Anne of Green Gables-- The Sequel" is merely the Canadian name for "Anne of Avonlea", as it was renamed in the States. I see a lot of reviews here which slam the third movie, but that was "Anne of Green Gables-- The Continuing Story". I won't argue with this slammage, but the Amazon DVD offering at issue here seems, by the title and the photo, to be "Anne of Avonlea/Anne of Green Gables-- The Sequel". So on to my review:

I think this movie is a gem; quiet intensity and charm. You can read a million reviews of that aspect here: I'm concentrating on the disc quality, since no one else seems to.

First of all: this disc is a "flipper" (you have to flip the DVD over in the middle of the movie), but people accustomed to changing tapes in the middle of the show on the old VHS version aren't going to whine that much when they have to do the DVD equivalent. I know I didn't.

That said, the picture quality is the worst I've ever seen. Yes, the *worst*. Worse even than when Sullivan put the original miniseries out on DVD. The transfer is exceptionally grainy, and the opening credit montage, with seaside vistas of shoreline and ocean, has horrible compression-artifact induced pixellation: there are hideous globs of blocky-looking areas in the ocean, in the rock, even on Megan Follows' face. It is sad that a beautiful picture like this has been marred by such an unprofessional transfer.

My advice is not to buy this disc. Sullivan Entertainment fooled me once when they sold me the first version of Anne of Green Gables "Digitally Restored" on DVD and it looked awful. Shame on them. They fooled me twice when they put out a "Collectors Edition", and I assumed that they were so embarrassed by the look of the original that surely they *must* have remastered it. Shame on me. They fooled me a third time with Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel, which is supposedly "Digitally Restored", too, but honestly looks more like an MPEG-1 VCD than a DVD. And all three releases are for the ridiculous price ...to us Stateside fools.

I was a trusting fool. Don't be fooled like I was. Keep your VHS tapes, no matter how worn. Avoid this release like the bubonic plague, and hope that a video distributor like Buena Vista with *some* standards for quality gets the rights to this film, and is able to do it right. I am very disappointed, and Sullivan Entertainment will *never* again get any more of my cash.
